About this audiobook

YOU'RE A LONG WAY FROM HOME, COWGIRL On her own in the Big Apple, Jenna Jay Scroggs can handle herself when trouble arises. But when she tries to rescue a horse, the passionate do-gooder ends up on a runaway Central Park carriage ride with a hunky stranger. With his sexy drawl and well-worn Levis, Beauregard Cates is doing his darnedest to make Jenna homesick for the small western town she's spent years trying to forget. And it's working: She's dangerously close to falling head over boot heels for the rugged rodeo star with hair the color of moonshine. Beau came to the big city to escape his past and live life to the fullest. Yet the leggy blonde with eyes as blue as a western sky causes a real hitch in his giddy-up. So when the well-meaning folks of Bramble plot to bring Jenna home, Beau will need to convince her that she won't ever get Texas out of her blood - or one good-time, ever-lovin' cowboy out of her heart.

Plenty of humor, a big dose of down home charm and an eccentric cast of characters are a winning combination in Flirting with Texas. Katie Lane’s newest release in her fabulous Deep in the Heart of Texas series takes readers back to Bramble, TX where Jenna Jay Scroggs and Beauregard “Beau” Cates fight their way to happily ever after.

Jenna left Bramble and her family behind when she moved to New York City with her rocker boyfriend Davy. At odds with her family over her relationship with Davy, their disagreement has led to a yearlong estrangement. Miss Minnie (from the infamous Miss Hattie’s Henhouse) has devised a plan to bring her home and as a favor to her, Beau agrees to track down Jenna while he’s in NYC for a bull riding event. The sparks are soon flying between Beau and Jenna and they have their hands full fighting their attraction (and matchmakers) when they are kidnapped and taken back to Bramble.

Beau and Jenna are wonderful characters and I really enjoyed them together as a couple. Jenna is passionate about her causes and a staunch defender of the underdog. She loves her family, but she does not quite fit in with them. While she is satisfied with her life in New York, meeting Beau makes Jenna a little nostalgic for the family and small town she walked away from.

Beau is charming and good natured but behind that big old grin he flashes lies a pretty complicated past. A cancer survivor, Beau is living life to the fullest as he travels from place to place. Jenna is NOT his type, but he does not let this deter him from pursuing the leggy blond.

Neither Beau nor Jenna plan on staying long in Bramble, but leaving is more difficult than they imagined. An overheard conversation takes Jenna by surprise and she begins digging into her past. An accidental discovery by Beau about someone close to him leads to a surprising realization about a past decision of his.

The romance between Beau and Jenna is sweet and sexy. There is plenty of chemistry between them and the sexual tension between them is positively combustible. Their relationship is on again/off again for much of the story as they deal with their personal issues but they do share some sizzling hot encounters.

In Flirting with Texas Katie Lane once again brings the town of Bramble and its inhabitants vibrantly to life. Fun, flirty and thought-provoking, this engaging romance will delight old and new fans of the Deep in the Heart of Texas series and leave them eagerly anticipating the next installment.

Reviewed by: Crystal BBook provided by: the publisher for reviewReview originally posted at Romancing the BookFlirting with Texas is the second book I have had the pleasure to read by Katie Lane. I chose to read this book because I love western stories and who doesn’t love a hot cowboy?!? I know I sure do. This was a fabulous story that was full of romance, mystery, and drama, and did I mention the hot cowboy?Jenna Jay Scroggs is one strong, independent, feisty young lady who I totally enjoyed reading about. Jenna thinks she has her life all planned out until she meets up with Beauregard Cates, who just happens to be from her home town. The relationship between Jeanna and Beau is hilarious from the beginning. I loved to laugh when I am reading and the things that happen when these two are together are just too much fun! I loved it!There is also plenty of drama going on and a few misunderstandings that lead to unveiling some interesting details. Beau and Jenna have a lot of things to work through and a few obstacles that they must hurdle in order to be together. One of my very favorite parts of the story are how Jenna and Beau end up in their hometown of Bramble, I’m not going to spoil the story by giving you any details. This was an interesting twist to the story though and I really enjoyed it. I love small towns and how the whole town kind of works together, also everyone knows everything that is going on.This is book number five in the Deep in the Heart of Texas series by Katie Lane. I have not read the other four in the series and I didn’t feel like I was missing any major details. So I think it is safe to say that you can read this book and fallow along just fine if you haven’t read the rest of the series. I do know after reading Flirting with Texas I sure would not mind reading the rest of the series and I look forward to reading more work by Katie Lane in the future. If you are like me and enjoy contemporary western romances I think you will enjoy this book.

Reviewed by Kimfor Read Your Writes Book ReviewsI fell in love with Beau who we first met in Catch Me a Cowboy. So I’ve been waiting for his story. Well, maybe not, since he doesn’t end up with me. Okay fine... I love the guy and I want him to be happy. I just wasn’t sure about Jenna Jay. Beau is this young, easy going, soft on the eyes cowboy. He’s a cancer survivor and is afraid the cancer has returned. He doesn’t want to go through all the treatments again so he leaves town and chooses not find out the results of the tests. If the cancer has returned, Beau just wants to live his life to the fullest. Of course, this goes against what his family wants. Jenna Jay Scroggs is different. She’s different from the other members of her family, but she’s also spunky like they are. Jenna isn’t what you expect her to be. She feels like she doesn’t belong in Bramble and moves away to New York. When the “Hens” get involved, Jenna’s family differences get mistaken for something else entirely. I will admit that no matter how hard I tried to not like Jenna, she won me over.Beau has been gone from Bramble and his family for going on two years. He’s in New York and Head Hen Minnie, yes at one point Minnie was a hen at The Henhouse a place of ill repute, asked him to check on Jenna and get her address. One thing leads to another and the sparks between Beau and Jenna are JUST getting started. I’m amazed at how great these two are together. They’re each strong-willed people who need someone just as strong and stubborn to be their partner.I’m a huge fan of Katie Lane because I KNOW she’s always going to make me laugh. Of course, Flirting with Texas is no different. The laughing started immediately with the first sentence. I mean really, how can you NOT laugh at a guy being on the streets of New York and getting mistaken as being the naked cowboy. Or how about a town kidnapping two people. Yes, there are several people in the town of Bramble missing a couple of marbles shy of a whole bag. But I loved the journey Beau and Jenna take in this book. You get a front seat to watching these two grow as people, individually, and as a couple.Source: NetGalley

This was a classic story of coming home, but with lots of twist and turns. The beginning of the book was really outlandish and kinda all over the place. The entire first half of the book reminded me of someone with ADHD, all over the place and random. The main story line was there, but there was a lot of extra randomness as well.I did, however; like and relate to the characters of Jenna Jay and Beau. By the middle to end of the book the story plot settled down and was more focused and easier to follow. By the end of the book I was glad I stuck with it and finished. I certainly wished there were more towns like Bramble, Texas. Overall, an OK read with great characters, lots of different plots, and a little spice.Rating: 3Heat Rating: HotReviewed By: A.
