About this audiobook

The first book in the New York Times best-selling series, Blue Bloods introduces Schuyler Van Alen to the ancient world of the undead. Schuyler is an outcast at her prestigious private high school filled with fashionable upper-class socialites. But this off-limits world opens up to her when Schuyler turns 15 and discovers that her peers, like her, are budding vampires. Then vampires start getting killed, and Schuyler realizes something else—they are being hunted.

“De la Cruz introduces ... vampires far different from ... traditional horror fiction, coupling sly humor with ... being fanged and fabulous.”— Booklist, starred review

Interesting concept. Starts off a bit slow, but not enough for me to lose interest.

At times I was annoyed by all the throw away references to designer brands that got in the way of the characters. (I get it, you can be kooky and chic, move on.) But I thought the twist on classic vampire lore was interesting. Melissa de la Cruz in no Anne Rice but then I liked this better than Marked.

Okay, I'm not even going to front. This totally entertained me. Yes, YA novel about vampires, wah wah wah, buttttttt... Pure fluff. NYC society, wealthy bratty kids, uh, no joke, a smattering of history with a Roanoke backstory, and not the usual sparkle vampyre sob story. It's not Pulitzer prize winning stuff, but it hooked me enough to have me reserve the next book in the series from the library. A welcome reprieve from the 800 behemoths I've been plodding through recently.

I really enjoyed this one. There are so many teen vampire books floating around the place lately, but this was certainly one of the best I've picked up. I wasn't very fond of Schuyler, though. She had no solid character- her personality seemed to change depending on what the situation needed. I thought she was cute and quirky up until it said she hadn't washed her hair in weeks, at which point it stops being quirky and quickly becomes plain disgusting. All in all, though, a very interesting take on vampires.

The world that is laid out in Blue Bloods is one that has promise, but this first book is nothing more than a history lesson (not very well taught, either) that introduces far too many characters (plus their countless pas incarnations). I rather got the impression that I would have to read the entire series in order to get close to any of the characters at all, and that's not something I really want to do.

I started reading this after reading the Twilight series. This series is nothing like Twilight though, except for the fact that it is about vampires and there is a love story that's central to the tale. In the Blue Bloods books, the vampires are really fallen angels who fought with Lucifer against God. As punishment for their betrayal, they are cast out of heaven and are forced to live on earth as vampires-- or blue blood-- forever. The story follows one unusual blue blood who falls in love with a boy at school. The only problem is he is sworn to his twin, who is not about to let her soul mate go. The book series follows the pair as they try to save their world and be together.

I don't know how to start this, but I can definitely say that this is an amazing book. I saw something about Gossip Girl plus Vampires, and that definitely describes this book. I love the imagery in this book, it seems to make everything a lot more vivid and it helps me imagine what's going on in the book. My favorite character is definitely Schuyler, since she's so down to earth. On the other hand, I despise Mimi, for several reasons. The plot is great, with a lot of twists that will want to keep you reading on and on, until you reach the end of the book....(and you'd have to read the next one). I am yet to purchase the next book, so in the meanwhile I will have another reason to reread the series. All of the characters have memorable qualities, the storyline is great, overall, if you want a good read and are into books with romance, a bit of action, and good imagery, this is definitely the one.

So you know when you read those reviews, that pretty much told you that this book is Gossip Girl meets Vampire? Yup that is probably the best way to describe it to the bone. A YA paranormal with vampires, exclusive school and a bunch of adults that refuse to listen to them. I borrowed this series of book from a friend who read them and recommended them and I have to say I don't hate it. It honestly took me a while to get into the book. I didn't really know how I felt about the whole Gossip Girl feel, and really hated some character in the beginning. Like Mimi Force and the odd thing she has going on with her brother, the jealousy issue can be a little off putting the say the least.I did on the other hand liked Schuyler the main character, her story is the most in-depth and the most interesting. Though her family once ran New York, they are now practically broke. Her mother is in a coma, her father is dead, and her grandma is well a little batty – according to Charlies Force.I did also liked the fact that the author had put an interesting twist on the vampires, but I won't spoil it as it's a big part of the book. It's just different then the normal crazy. Like the fact that they have blue blood running through their veins and have to cover them up from the naked eye of people with the help of a doctor. The premise of the book was interesting as well. I like the story line, I liked Jack Force even thought at times I found him frustrating and I loved Oliver, Schuyler's best friend. Both of them are kind of loners and different from Mimi Force and her band of..vampires. It was interesting that they don't even realize that they are vampires until they turn a certain age, up until then they experience things slowly to prepare them for their new way of life.Overall this book has kept my interest enough to keep reading, and already on book two. I really did enjoy it. The ending really picked up, and threw in kind of a curve ball. It was both sad and interesting at the same time.

This is my second time reading Blue Bloods and I enjoyed it more this time than the first time I read it. Blue Bloods is beyond detailed. The pages come to life right in front of you and even if you haven’t been to New York it made you feel like it was a familiar place. Everything just had this perfect meticulous detail. It felt like I was at Duchesne with them or sitting in Penthouse Du Reves with Bliss. As well as riding in a taxi with Schuyler, seeing the scenery change heading towards her house. I’ve never felt so enveloped in a book that I almost felt a part of it. The historical aspect of this book was remarkable. I have to say Melissa has some major balls to take such a significant part of American history and put her own spin on it. Everything just came together seamlessly and even when I had questions on certain things, she tied them in beautifully. One thing I realized early on about this book is it can be slightly unrealistic. A majority of teens can’t walk around with $400 dollar jeans or get into nightclubs. I think that is what made the book so appealing though. I got to step inside the world of the rich and privileged and take a peek around. It is a great reality escape and Melissa De La Cruz had no problem of making me get swept up in the world. The vampire part of Blue Bloods was fascinating. I love that it wasn’t you typical vampire story. The way it tied in with the historical part was incredible. The process of the vampires was pretty neat and all the different cycles they had. You aren’t just born a vampire or bitten and made into one. I like that it was made into a society and it fit in with the wholes rich New York feel. I like that the story doesn’t come right out as a vampire book. Though you get a glimpse through certain point of views, it becomes more pronounced about a fourth of a way in. The denial in Blue Bloods about the bad things that were happening was a little absurd to me. I don’t know why some of the characters want to act blinded about it when it is practically happening in front of them. I enjoyed the fact that the vampires have to fear for once and it’s not the vampires putting fear into others.Even though the book switched point of views, I feel like the main storyline was based on Schuyler. Schuyler isn’t my favorite character but I enjoy her storyline. I like how naive and reserved she is, even down to her clothes. Sometimes she can come off as over sensitive. Even though it is only book one, I think Schuyler has to deal with a lot and learn things fast. I think by the end of the book Schuyler really grew bold. When she starts to figure out what is happening, she isn’t afraid to ask questions.I love Mimi’s character. Some people see her as bitchy, but I love her snarky attitude. Her relationship with Jack was a little odd at first, but when it’s explained toward the end of Blue Bloods it makes things a lot clearer. Even though I could relate more to Bliss as a character, everyone loves to hate the bad girl. Bliss was probably my favorite character. Going from being a southern girl and thrown into the New York social scene can be overwhelming and she handled herself well. Even though she was popular and had boys falling all over her, she still had insecurities. There is also a big mystery about Bliss and I can’t wait to discover it…again.I am surprised at how strong some of the sexual scenes are. Most YA books are tame, but I love the heat that simmers through the pages of Blue Bloods. The love stories were enjoyable, some came off as predictable and others left you wondering how you didn’t figure it out. In Blue Bloods I am not a huge fan of any of the boys. Though they are noteworthy, I don’t have any swoon moments for them. But like I said it is only book one.The ending definitely leaves you on a somber note, but you realize that it is about to get exciting. This book takes you off to vivid world that you don’t want to leave. All vampire lovers need to sink their teeth into this one.

This book was interesting. It is kinda two books in one, a history of Plymouth and Roanoke and then also a rich teen vampire drama...not sure if drama is the right word, there really isn't too much suspense. The book follows a few rich teens in New York, which I found interesting because it seems Schuyler is the main character. The plot begins with everyday things for (rich) teens, like clothing and cliques and then progresses into the history and Blue Blood lineage. And I keep saying rich for a reason, De La Cruz uses most of her writing to explain the lavish houses, clothes, and lifestyles of these wealthy teens and their powerful families.I didn't mind the over the top explanations of their wealth as much as that there should have been more plot instead...I look forward to continuing the storyline though, to see if this gets alleviated or whether their wealth is always at the forefront.

Blue Bloods by Melissa de la CruzReviewed by Moirae the fates books reviews. When the Mayflower set sail in 1620, it carried on board the men and women who would shape America: Miles Standish; John Alden; Constance Hopkins. But some among the Pilgrims were not pure of heart; they were not escaping religious persecution. Indeed, they were not even human. They were vampires. The vampires assimilated quickly into the New World. Rising to levels of enormous power, wealth, and influence, they were the celebrated blue bloods of American society. The Blue Bloods vowed that their immortal status would remain a closely guarded secret. And they kept that secret for centuries. But now, in New York City, the secret is seeping out. Schuyler Van Alen is a sophomore at a prestigious private school. She prefers baggy, vintage clothes instead of the Prada and pearls worn by her classmates, and she lives with her reclusive grandmother in a dilapated mansion. Schuyler is a loner...and happy that way. Suddenly, when she turns fifteen, there is a visible mosaic of blue veins on her arm. She starts to crave raw food and she is having flashbacks to ancient times. Then a popular girl from her school is found dead... drained of all her blood. Schuyler doesn't know what to think, but she wants to find out the secrets the Blue Bloods are keeping. But is she herself in danger? (Synopsis provided by goodreads)I really liked this book. I think what I liked the most was Cruz's unusual spin on vampires. This book was published a few months before Twilight and why it never got the same status is insane! Not only is the story more involved but Cruz's writing style is much more detailed, she created a beautiful world that draws you in from the first page. The history she gave to her vampires unlike anything I've read before. The characters are very dynamic and very different to one another. There were a few theories I had while reading this book, Cruz did a great job in "tricking" the reader, just when you think you have it all figured out, Cruz turns the tables on you and you find yourself in another world you find out you are so far off from being right. It's such an awesome book! I loved every page, and the best part? There are 5 more books to read! I have no idea why I waited so long to get this series! * Reading level: Ages 18 and up * Hardcover: 320 pages * Publisher: Hyperion Book CH (April 25, 2006 * ISBN-10: 0786838922 * Author: Melissa de la Cruz * Cover art: I like the city scape at the bottom and the necklace, on the hardcover, the bites are indented into the cover AWESOME! * Overall rating: ***** out of 5 * Obtained: This was a Random Act of Kindness.

Ok, I gave this book couple of days before I review it, but still after two days, I still don't get the book, not the story is hard to guess, but I don't get the point of this, this is Vamps meet Gossip Girl, and I don't mean that in a good way.I found this book boring, shallow, the characters were annoying with no depth, and the constant description of who wore what just plain annoying!(yeah we get it! Mimi like to dress up like a Barbi and Sky is a Gothie girl!) I don't want to read about that every other page! And I can't believe how Sky falls in and out of "love" (that's what was said not my words) with Jack just like that! He was nice : she loves him, then he was mean to her and shockingly she figures out she doesn't love him! like SERIOUSLY?And one thing that is creeping me out is the Twin bound, Bother and Sister having this eternal emotional love? Ok, that's just sick, even if this is a fantasy world I don't really wanna read about that! And Teens drinking, partying and smoking? are they fifteen or twenty five? IF you want your daughter to be knocked out, this book is a good start directing her to that! Over all, I wasted a night reading this, and thought that the next book in the series could be better, but doesn't look it, hate that I wasted money and bought these two books.

This story is all it's own. With a plot like a puzzle and many point of views this book keeps you reading for hours! It's a thrilling dark love story with a plot like no other. One of my favorite things is how the author works real history into the story line but makes it her own. I can't wait to read the new book and I will be sad when the series ends! I would give it more than 5 stars if I could, great for all ages

read more at talksupe.blogspot.comThe label dropping is overwhelming but by the end of the book I'm actually quite impressed by the story. De la Cruz set a lot of rules and I'm curious on how she'll keep everyone and everything inside the lines. On top of that her vampire myth is a combination of other things, not just Fallen Angels, but other myths as well. I guess the series got too much flack from all the branding mentioned but if you can at least finish the first book I guarantee that she'll make you pick up the next one, Masquerade

I really really wanted to like this book. But I really didn't. I recently read a book by de la Cruz that I loved, The Witches of East End, and I saw this series and thought, why not? I like young adult books and vampires, so I figured it would be a fun read. I don't know where to begin with what I didn't like - the names of characters were all over the place, with characters named Bliss and Schulyer and Allegra and I think one named Perfection? mixed with Jack and Dylan and Oliver. Then there is the constant brand name dropping- I felt I was reading Vogue magazine, and not being all that knowledgeable about fashion, I had no frame of reference for these clothes, handbags, etc. Then, for the actual book itself- vampires who are angels who were involved in the missing colony of Roanoke, and have ties to ancient Rome? Say what? That just seemed one step somewhere too far. The constant talk of rebirths and fallen angels and who is who and what is what, drove me nuts and left me feeling like I needed about four flow charts of characters who they were in the past, their angel names, how they are related to whom, and so forth.I was disappointed, I don't know why I expected more but I did. It is safe to say I will not be reading the rest of this series.

fter the whole Twilight Saga I had a bad taste left in my mouth in regards to novels about Vampires, But I have to say that this book gave me a renewed hope in Vampire YA novels again. I like the spin that Melissa De La Cruz put on them, and that its based in an Upper East Side enviroment where it's the rich and classy that the vampires are coming from. I love the high society feeling of this book, and am so glad this is a series and cannot wait to get my hands on the rest of these books. Hopefully it stays at the same pace, because sometime series that involve this many books seem to ruin the story after a while, it gets dry and played out, so hopefully this series stay fresh and new for me!!

Quick, entertaining read. Interesting take on vampire lore. However, the characters are one-dimensional. And all the label-dropping is annoying. Maybe people that are into fashion will enjoy that aspect of it, but it just annoyed me.

Schuyler is a student at one of New York City's most prestigious schools, but she doesn't exactly fit in with her peers. Then, when she discovers that she is a Blue Blood, a vampire that has been reincarnated over and over since the time of the Mayflower, she and her other classmates are suddenly in the same group. And there's a problem: there's something out to get the young Blue Bloods. It's already killed one of the classmates and now it's out for Schuyler. Who or what is it and what does it want? You would think a novel would be terrible when the premise is that everyone who came over on the Mayflower were vampires, but I thoroughly enjoyed this novel! It was vampires done right for several reasons. First, the plot line wasn't forced. It didn't start out in a science class where the two main characters immediately fell in love. There was ample build up before we even learn that everyone is a vampire. Second, there are lots of characters to learn about, not just a focus on two main characters and third in the love triangle. In fact, a love triangle was conspicuously absent for this novel. There wasn't a lot of romance, either, though I'm sure we'll see some in future books. Third, the characters had lives outside of their vampire-hood. It wasn't like they learned they were vampires and that was all they thought about or did. They still had parties and burgeoning modeling careers and family issues to deal with.Naturally the book ended on a cliffhanger and I've already got the second book in the series on it's way. I'm delighted to learn there are five in the series, plus an extra novella. What fun!

An interesting concept that has been played out in vampire fiction before, with the added twist of rich New York City teens thrown in. I was disappointed in the lack of closure at the end and bored with the endless discriptions of hand bags and shoes.

If Lisi Harrison, Zoey Dean, and P.C. Cast had come together to make a book, it would be Blue Bloods. Set in upper-class New York, Blue Bloods is a new twist on the vampire fad that will be very much appreciated. With the glamour and drama of the setting and characters, it balances very nicely with the paranormal element.

Mini Book Review: This was a truly unique and fascinating take on the Vampire genre. Exciting and unusual storyline keeps you engrossed in the story and makes it hard to put down. A good strong female lead, who doesn't just sit back and believe everything she hears, and doesn't want to be like all the popular kids. My only real complaints are that it is a tad high schoolish at time, but you have to remember I am a 40 yr old Mom, these books aren't written for me. Also I was a tad irritated by all the name dropping of designer brands and all the skinny beautiful people -- again I am not a teen, this may interest them more. I have already phoned my neighbors daughter to borrow the rest of the series though, so I am hoping the books get even better. I am intrigued and need to know more about the back history of the Blue Bloods3.75 Dewey'sI purchased this and had it signed at the Smart Chicks Kick It Tour at the Chapters in Brampton. This is another signed book that will be part of my Spina Bifida Raffle

I was stuck between giving this book 3 or 4 stars. My biggest problem with the book was that there was too much page filler. It was too much with 3 different POV's. I loved that the Blue Bloods are supposed to be fallen angels and they are immortal until they prove that they are worthy to go back to heaven. I also really liked how Melissa de la Cruz followed the story in true American history, it made it seem that it could be real.

I enjoyed this book. I thought that the idea was extremely creative and original, which is something I've been really looking for lately. This isn't a typical vampire book, with lots of angst and romance. Instead, it has an well-laid plot full of interesting mysteries.Unfortunately, I felt like there were also a lot of problems with this book. For one thing, the writing was only average. It does a lot of "telling" instead of showing, which made it less interesting for me to read. I wasn't ever wondering about the characters' thoughts and motivations, because it was all spelled out for me. Also, the pacing was off. After going through arduous descriptions, big events were glossed over, and the ending/climax seemed extremely rushed. I was also annoyed by all the designer/brand references. I was like: I get it. They're rich. I don't need anymore clues. However, I'm really interested to see where the story goes. I connected with the main character and her friend Oliver (they're the only ones I related to), and I want to know how their stories go. Like I said, this book is creative and original; I think it has a LOT of potential. Hopefully the writing gets better throughout the next books in the series.

I resisted this book at first, since it materialized along with the slew of other teen vampire novels. But then my friend insisted that I read it, so I followed her advice. To my surprise I rather enjoyed the experience. Blue Bloods is well written. I don’t think it even made me cringe once at poor grammar or silly typos. It did have its fair share of clichés, but I think that comes with the territory (vampires, teen drama, rich kids…).The story follows a group of young socialites who all attend the same school, and all happen to be “blue bloods”. This term has duel meanings. They aren’t just blue bloods in the since of being high society, but they actually have blue blood, which is apparently because of their vampire status. Other than the blue bloods there are also two other classifications: red bloods (normal humans) and silver bloods (the bad guys). Very creative names, I know. In terms of recommendation, I don’t really, at least not to everyone. But if you tend to like teen novels and don’t mind some corniness plot wise (such as religious explanations, twisting of historical facts and supernatural conspiracies), then definitely, by all means, read this book. Blue Bloods is considerably pleasing despite my negative comments. =)
