About this audiobook

It's rule breaker Emily Foster's birthday, and like everyone at The Jungle Room, she just wants to get some action. Unfortunately, she stumbles on the wrong kind, witnessing a mob hit. To protect her, she's entered into the Witness Protection Program with by-the-book Special Agent Jake Ward as her chaperone.

When the location of their safe house is compromised, Jake stashes Emily deep in the Texas backwoods. The city-girl might be safe from the Mafia, but she has to contend with a psychotic rooster, a narcoleptic dog, crazy cowboys, and the danger of losing her heart to the one man she can't have.

Jake's as hot as he is infuriating, and she can't help but push all his buttons to loosen him up. Their mutual, sizzling sexual attraction poses a dilemma: Jake's determined to keep her safe and out of the wrong hands; she's determined to get into the right ones-his.

Oh, boy. The summary of this book seemed like it would be right yo my alley (mobsters, witness protection, opposites attract. Check, check, and check!) Unfortunately, the heroine of this book, Emily, is absolute insufferable. She was such an immature, spoiled, whiny brat, I wanted to reach into the book and throttle her. Her behavior was way too over the top and melodramatic. Often the cause of her own problems, she seemed completely oblivious to just how precarious her situation as a key witness in protection was and did many things that put herself and Jake in jeopardy (ie: calling people from her past life, trying to run away, going out in public without Jake’s knowledge, etc).I have no idea why Jake was attracted to her. The woman was too immature, having the emotional mentality of a fifteen year old rather than her actual age of twenty eight. Several times throughout the book, she would overhear bits and pieces of a conversation and would jump to incorrect assumptions. You would think she would have learned after the second time to at least start asking questions first, but nope. Assumptions and temper tantrums it is.Yes, this is a grown woman who throws temper tantrums. In public. And one time, she even started a bar fight as a result of one of her tantrums. She was also extremely pushy about sex. To a degree that actually had me rolling my eyes saying to myself, ‘my goodness, is she begging for sex AGAIN?’. Jake’s concerns and reasoning for not wanting to sleep with her were legit. She was a key witness in protection for a federal case he was investigating as an agent. He’s right to be worried the defense lawyers could have her entire testimony tossed out if they got wind of a sexual relationship between the two. This was Jake’s career on the line. But did Emily care about any of that? Nope.At least twice, she grew so angry and frustrated with Jake during an argument, that she hurled insults at his family, friends, and the region. These were people who had been nothing but nice and hospitable to her. Who were being nice of enough to let her stay in their home, eat their food, wear their donated clothing. I just couldn’t buy that someone as straight laced and, you know, sane as Jake would willingly choose to be with a person like this.

Rules of Protection is the first book of the Tangled In Texas series and wow it is fantastic.
Alison Bliss has a way of writing that will have you hooked before the end of the first chapter if not the first page. I found myself laughing out loud on many occasions while reading this.
The main characters background stories are riveting, the sexual tension between these two will have you shouting, when it finally does happen it is so steamy and you will be screaming yes!
The whole story is quite unique and a fantastic start to the series. I am eagerly awaiting book 2.

Fantastic debut novel from author Alison Bliss. A great combination of small town romance, suspense, and snarky humor that kept me turning the pages. After witnessing a horrific crime our heroine is whisked away, given a new identity, and temporarily put under the protection of Jake Ward. When Jake realizes she is still in danger he takes matters into his own hands and does the only thing he can do. Kidnaps her!! Really a very entertaining read that I recommend to everyone!

Light-hearted romantic comedy with a dose of suspense? Yes, please!Emily accidently witnesses a mob crime one night and is placed in to witness protection, with Jake as her chaperone. And boy did she give him a run for his money! I laughed out loud so much with this book! And that's not to say that the sexual tension between these two were not off the charts! Throw in the forbidden romance factor (special agents can't date witnesses), and you have one fun read!I received this book in exchange for an honest review.

Wow, what a totally awesome book from debut author Allison Bliss! Rules of Protection grabs you right from the beginning and the spine-tingling roller coaster never lets up. The two primary characters, Emily Foster and Jake Ward, have amazing yet complicated chemistry and their journey is replete with desire, loathing and love. Ms. Bliss is an excellent storyteller and her words kept me mesmerized from the very first chapter.I loved Emily's character. Not only is she smart, slick and sexy, she has a lot of spunk and determination. She lost both her parents in a tragic car accident and was placed in the foster care system when she was fourteen. So forming and maintaining friendships is hard for her because she fears losing them. She always says what's on her mind which sometimes gets her into trouble. Now Emily is 28, hiding from the mob, and falling in love with her FBI protector in rural Texas.Jake's character is intriguing. He is a hot FBI agent who does everything by the book. Rules and regulations are his mantra, that is until he becomes Emily's protector. He is knowledgeable about everything and anything, and as a result, tends to get on Emily's nerves. So Emily pushes his buttons with her tenacity, as Jake struggles to maintain his calm. When Jake finally puts the rules of the FBI aside and gives into his lust, sparks ignite. Above all, he is good to his family and protects those he cares about with a vengeance. The secondary characters are wonderful foils for Emily and Jake. Junior, Cowboy, and Hank are insightful and entertaining. Their personalities intertwine perfectly with the plot and the conflicts that are going on. Overall, this is a suspenseful, sometimes laugh-out-loud romantic adventure that kept me on the edge of my seat from beginning to end. Don't pass up the opportunity to read Rules of Protection.Complimentary copy provided by Entangled Publishing.
