Such a well told narrative. But I think a warning needs to be put on it: this is a book on the Holocaust. It has an extended narrative retelling of the horrors the Jews experienced at the hands of the Nazis. I was a little unprepared for this but I enjoyed the interweaving of generational stories and the impact of experiences on the following generations. Be prepared for a twist at the end.

Amazing story, beautifully told, the kind of book that you don’t want it to end.

The Storyteller is a perfectly titled book. This beautifully written book actually weaves many stories. I wasn’t sure what I was in for when I met Sage at a grief group. She’s an introverted baker who meets Joseph, an elderly widowed man. I quickly became engrossed when the heart of the book tells Sage’s grandmother’s story, an Auschwitz survivor. Wow! What a story. There’s so much more that follows. This became quite an emotionally powerful read. It will definitely stay with me for a long time.

I love Jodi's books, but this one had disturbingly vivid descriptions of the holocaust that were just too much for me. I couldn't finish it.

This book is well written, and it needs to bring history to light. We cannot forget the tragedy and abuse of the Jewish. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and appreciate your research and writing of this book. Thank you! Looking forward to your next nook.

It was moving, a bit predictable, but sweet.
I could not relate too much to the story, but I can see why some people would really feel an echo.

I wasn’t sure that I would appreciate a book written so that so many different people’s perspectives were shown, but Jodi Picoult really wove an interesting story in this way. I often read books about WW2 Europe, but none have given me such a clear picture of what a Jewish person experienced in the ghetto or the concentration camps. I really appreciate the fact that so many personal flaws were revealed about each of the characters; it made them seem more believable. This book is sad and disturbing; it makes you question right and wrong and what may lead any person to do what they do. Definitely encourages reflection on what choices we make in life and why. Overall - a great read.

At times I had to stop reading because of the horror, at times I cried because of the inhumanity. A work of fiction that depicts the horror man in reality did to his fellow human beings. A beautifully written story that will leave you remembering a distant past that should never be forgotten.

What made this story about stories so enjoyable is it’s a story that didn’t end even after it was completed.

This book took me about 8 months to listen to because of the emotional aspect of it. It was extremely sad and descriptive, but also very well written. The author took time to interview true survivors and that made it heart-wrenching for me at times. The details about baking and the bakery were amazing. It made my mouth water every time Sage or Minka talked about their rolls!

I read this book...I hated it then, but thought I’d give it another shot, by listening. It’s the way Josef is judged...Sage talks about 1 jew being interchangeable for another...that everyone believes this & earlier in the novel Sage uses the word SHISKA.

An insult...one JEWS use to insult white gentiles. But that’s okay apparently, they can name call, refer to us interchangeably...and that’s just OK.

    No it actually IS NOT.

I can’t force myself to listen to this hypocritical TRIPE.

This book was fantastic. It provided a lot of vivid details, and I learned more about the influence that the Nazi had over the Jews. At several parts, this book made me want to cry.

AMAZING! An intense emotional roller coaster Shocking. Stunning. Intriguing. Suspenseful.

You’ll battle w/your ethics and morality as u find yourself falling in love with a person/people you’ve been taught to hate - or is it the system u hate? Or, are they a product of that system and therefore, one in the same and deserving of hatred?

You’ll find your soul filling to the point of tears as it overflows with empathy. U want the story to go on, to hear more of what u are coming to love…but can u? Should u? Love someone who is part of a system that is the personification of evil on such an epic and historic scale?

So, the question becomes…what would u do? Because the ride is over. It’s time for judgement. Will u allow ur morality to choose a death sentence or will u follow the loving empathy in ur soul and decide on forgiveness due to “time served”? And, either way u decide, will u “hypothetically” be able to sleep at night after making ur decision?

As u can see, a book layered with intrigue.

I had to take breaks reading this book it was intense. Sage handled. Joseph story very well probably better than I would have. I like the ending and she will get away with it because he’s a 95 year old man on the verge of death and death anyway. I hope her and Leo get together, but I don’t know if they can because this will be a secret between them. I love Jodi Picoult’s books, I think I’ve read almost all of them. I know I own all of them.
