- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5The story centres around Carol Starkey a bomb squad detective who is still pulling herself and her life back together after surviving a bomb black three years earlier.Starkey and colleagues from the Criminal Conspiracy Section and her old team at the bomb squad are in a race against time to find the identity and whereabouts of a mysterious serial bomber known only as 'Mr Red'. It's a good plot and great mystery, but Carol Starkey's character is a little too one dimensional to really work. She and the other characters are interesting, but this isn't as good at Crais's other work, and one is left with the impression that he doesn't write women very well. That said, the pace of the book is fast enough to get past any limitations in the characterisation.
- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5Female main characters and male voice. Ridiculous!!! Why do that??
- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5A male narrator for a female character?!?! Seriously?! I just couldn’t listen to it.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Carol Sharkey understands bombs, works with them, investigates them, has lost friends to them in her job as Detective in the LAPD, the last person she lost was her love and she's now living on prescription drugs, cigarettes and alcohol. Another detective is killed and she has to join forces with John Michael Fowles to find out who, but the obvious is not always the answer.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5WOW, this was a grab you and not let go book. INTENSE would not do this justice. A MUST READ for any serious fiction reader.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Bombs,guns,crazy people, and love what more can you ask for. Have fun listening.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Crais is best known for his series of novels featuring Elvis Cole but I haven't read any of those. This is the second novel I've read by him, the first was Hostage and that was a great page turner, just an excellent story. This one's a page turner as well. Detective Carol Starkey, still recovering from a bomb blast that killed her (for a couple minutes until she was revived), is investigating another bombing. Someone is targeting bomb technicians. About halfway in comes the first big plot twist and from there it rockets along with several new twists thrown in. Naturally things end with a bang. Fun story. This was an excellent crime novel diversion.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This is about a member (currently reassigned) of the L.A. Bomb Squad who was critically injured when an earthquake interrupted the defusing of a bomb, killing her partner/lover. Very interesting information about bomb builders, bomb making, how bomb squads work and a mysterious bomber who is a folk hero to his kind. This features a very flawed heroine, but makes for a very interesting read.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5this book has unique characters with an original and tense ending.
