About this audiobook

Kate Sedgwick's life has been anything but typical. She's endured hardship and tragedy, but throughout it all she remains happy and optimistic (there's a reason her best friend Gus calls her Bright Side). Kate is strong-willed, funny, smart, and musically gifted. She's also never believed in love. So when Kate leaves San Diego to attend college in the small town of Grant, Minnesota, the last thing she expects is to fall in love with Keller Banks.

They both feel it. But they each have a reason to fight it. They each have a secret. And when secrets are revealed, some will heal you . . . and some will end you.

    4 stars and a half.

I just finished the book and I need to get this out. Right now.
When I started this book, I read many reviews stating the book didn't turn out how they expected, which puzzled me a lot but I can totally relate to the feeling.

This book wrecked me and I would label it as one of my favourites because the last 25% or so wrecked me completely even though there are a few things I didn't quite like about the book.

    Downsides
    - I thought that the characters were a bit too flawless for my tastes, especially Kate. Apart from her tardiness, it really is hard to spot flaws in her character and because of that it was sometimes hard to be completely in the story as she seems just too perfect.
    - I figured out Kate's and Keller's secrets so quickly and easily I was a bit disappointed. The hits are massive and even though we lack some details, some more build up would have been nice.
    - What happened to Kate seemed just too much. I know that tragedies can pile up but in this case it seemed to be just added for the sake of adding more and more trauma to her story, as if she has really the worst luck in the universe. Between her mother's suicide and non-existent care (and let's not forget the beating), her father out of the picture, her special sister dying, her cancer coming once and back again... Well you get what I mean. We are probably only lacking war and then we have the worst cocktail possible.

Why, despite the above points, I love this book so much
    - As much as she seems too flawless for my tastes, Kate is awesome. Hell, she's epic. She is the person everyone probably wants to be and seeing the world through her eyes was probably one of the biggest strengths of the book. It made me reconsider some things in my life and for that I am grateful. I loved her caring and thoughtful side as well as her humour and the fact that she's always late. I feel I need to write down so many quotes from her character. And I keep on wanting to call everybody "Dude" now.
    - Alongside with her character, it is the impact Kate has on others' people lives that truly got me. It is impressive and breathtaking during the book, particularly when Gus reads the letters, needless to say I was crying my eyes out at that point and had been for a few "chapters" already.
    - The other characters are also what makes this book such a success in my eyes, individually speaking and in their relationship to Kate. Out of them all, it was Gus and Clayton that I loved the most (Keller comes right after), and I'm really happy to know the second book is about Gus, especially with the way it ends. Knowing there's a third with Franco is the cherry on the top because we don't know him a lot but I bet he's a hellavu character as well.
    - The sarcastic sense of humour was a definite bonus side that I thoroughly enjoyed, in addition to the slow burn.
    - And let's not forget the kind of dual point of view! I say kind of because I think Kate's is the one we get to see most but it was also really great to have Keller's perspective. I'm a sucker for multiple points of view books so that was just awesome in my eyes.

In the end, I am torn. I don't know if I would recommend this book. I think I would, and definitely encourages anyone who started it and isn't sure to continue to keep on reading because the last 25% (approximately) of the book is what makes it so spectacular, and even if you end up crying, you'll be smiling once you reach the last page. That's Bright Side for you.

“You do epic like no one else.”

Another case of a really cool young woman who is dying of cancer. Why are they always the most grounded and, well, awesome characters? At first the main character seemed fake, but once I got into it, she turned into a real person who I would love to emulate.

I cried for about the last quarter of the book, and if I had known that would happen beforehand, I wouldn't have read it, but that's how it goes. It is a title that will stick with me, I know.

I very rarely cry at audio books but jeez this one got me.

I honestly didn't think it would end how it did. I held out the whole way thinking things would change, that the outcome would be different, that surely this is not how its going to go but it really did. Kim Holden tore out my heart. I mean a these characters now need to go on a journey of healing, they've all lost this amazing human who brought light into a dark room and they literally have no idea what to do.

Why would the world be so cruel???? I think Bright Side will stick with me for a long time and i will be diving into the rest of the series when my emotions can handle it again because I don't think Kim will go easy on us.

This book was really good. I loved how the author wrote Katie and gave her a lot of rapport just so the readers can have a fantastic grasp of who she is and what impact she has on people. I give it 4 stars simply because it was very drawn out - which is understandable and expected with an ending like that. And it helps the readers engage in all the emotions and feelings throughout the book and those emotions explode in the end. I really liked it and will buy the book for my bookshelf!

If you don't like crying, probably don't read this book. It'll tear out your heart and rip it into tiny little pieces.

Bright Side is such a heartwarming tale full of love, loss and life lessons. Kim Holden portrayed the epitome of positivity so eloquently with Kate (aka Bright Side )that I'm sure I need a friend like her in my life. Kate’s point of view throughout the story is incredibly optimistic and encouraging. Her character is absolutely breathtaking and will leave YOU yearning for a Kate in your life. She’ll leave you with tears, a smile and a full heart. I believe Holden’s objective with this novel was to change the way you view the world we live in. I would say she definitely succeeded; I may never look at a sunset the same again. Kate shows us that we should live in the present because the future is never guaranteed. She powerfully shows the impact that one person can have on the lives of others. Kate’s story is one that will leave you breathless and yearning for more. Holden beautifully mixes in coffee, dance, music and love between the pages of Bright Side. Get your tissues ready and prepare for a rollercoaster ride. Hide yourself in the bathroom if you must. Whatever you do, go get this book and I’ll leave you with this, go. do epic.

I chose to read this book because of the high ratings it was given my other readers. I had no idea what I was getting myself into! For the first part of the book, I had decided it was written for a younger adult audience, but I loved the main character, Kate, so much that I kept reading. She's funny, sarcastic and I found her really fun to read about. I was completely hooked by the time the story took a decidedly different turn. I'd advise you not to read this book in public if you're kind of emotional. I skipped entire paragraphs near the end because I just couldn't deal with the emotions in the story. That's not a bad thing. It's just that I was reading this in public. I liked this book quite a lot even though I'm now emotionally worn out. The characters were wonderful.

Yes. OVERALL RATING: 5/5 STARSMy ThoughtsFirst Impression: I think the reason I waited so long to read this is because I knew it was going to make me cry…and it did…it so did…but it was so much more than that too.I literally loved every character in this book, especially Kate and Gus. Keller is not to bad either. This was such a touching story. With that being said, I can see how some people wouldn't like Kate, because of the kind of person that she is. She is one of those people everyone gravitates towards, and everyone loves. This could be construed as unbelievable or just too much. They're people like this, whether it's for their innate goodness or for their insatiable badness, they do exist. For a story that's ultimately sad, it's also very uplifting. Very well written with excellent narration. With a lesson to never let an opportunity to be awesome pass you by.Sex Factor: Yes, but it's not overly explicit.
