About this audiobook

Genevieve McInnis is locked behind the fortified walls of McHugh Keep, captive of a cruel laird who takes great pleasure in ruining her for any other man. Yet when Bowen Montgomery storms the gates on a mission of clan warfare, Genevieve finds that her spirit is bent but not broken. Still, her path toward freedom remains uncertain. Unable to bear the shame of returning to a family that believes her dead or to abandon others at the keep to an imposing new laird, Genevieve opts for the peaceful life of an abbess. But Bowen's rugged sensuality stirs something deep inside her that longs to be awakened by his patient, gentle caress-something warm, wicked, and tempting.

Bowen seizes his enemy's keep, unprepared for the brooding and reclusive woman who captures his heart. He's enchanted by her fierce determination, her unusual beauty, and her quiet, unfailing strength. But wooing her will take more than a seasoned seducer's skill. For loving Genevieve, he discovers, means giving her back the freedom that was stolen from her-even if it means losing her forever.

Closer to three and 1/2 stars. I really liked Genevieve's strength and felt bad for all the things she endured. Bowen was the perfect hero to heal her spirit, very tender and patient. I liked the first half of this story, but it lost steam after that. I think the problem was how many times Bowen and Genevieve rehashed the same inner thoughts...over and over and over...and over. I grew bored. It wasn't until Bowen took her back to Montgomery Keep that I reconnected with the story. Loved the relationship that developed between the three women. I'll continue with the series though. I'm intrigued by Taliesan and eager to read her story when it's published.

After Ian is killed, Genevieve wonders what her fate will be, stuck behind the keeps door, with no place to go. Then Bowen Montgomery comes with a army, and storms the gates, and seeing only a few men, and women and children, he knows he has a big task ahead of him. When he meets Genevieve, he is stunned with a woman that even though rumored to have slept around some, there is a innocence he senses about her, and he knows that there is alot more to her than meets the eye. As he and his men try to solve the problems within the McHugh clan, a desire sparks between Bowen and Genevieve, and he finds himself falling in love with this beauty who takes his breath away with her kiss. However when he uncovers some hidden truths he knows he has some decisions to make that could make him lose her forever....but will he make the choice that is right for his wants and desires, or what is truly best for the one person who he loves more than life...Highlander Most Wanted is the second in this most incredible series by Maya Banks. Now I just love Banks Historical's, they are amazingly written stories that take you back through time, so vividly portrayed, it makes you just want to go through a time portal yourself. After reading the first in the series, I just fell in love again with her second Historical series. Now I think I almost loved this one more than the first, there were so many aspects of the story that I enjoyed. It was definitely a page turner that will knock your socks off and make you want to fly. I felt like from beginning to end, like it was one of those romances that you just buy and re read forever. One of those unforgettable romances, that is written in such a way that it enthralls the reader and by the time its finished you just don't want it to ever end. I really loved the way the author wove this story together so beautifully, and dealt with difficult issues and just fit it in together amazingly well. It was very emotionally heart wrenching, and I really enjoyed how the characters fit so well for the plot that was portrayed. I felt like everything fit perfectly and the flow of the story was as smooth as warm honey. If anyone can make you fall in love with the Scottish Highlands, its Maya Banks. A Romance that will enchant you, a story filled with a tender romance, an intriguing plot and charming characters, that will keep a reader thirsting for more. You can't go wrong with this series..... A TRUE TREASURE!!

Another good book by Maya Banks. I love the historical setting for this series of books. It’s inspiring to hear of all of the adversity that Genevieve was able to overcome and still able to love.

I liked this story and was emotionally invested in its characters (I even teared up a couple times!). *strong trigger warning for rape though* However it had some large flaws. Some *significant* inconsistencies (serious spoilers) the villain had been extremely possessive of her and others weren't even allowed to speak to her and he scarred her face so that other men wouldn't even find her attractive- but also he passed her around, everyone has been verbally abusing her for ages, and he set men to leer at her while she bathed. ?!? Well which is it? Or, she's been misused in every way by rapists for a year- but also she's unsure if it's possible for, like, a woman to give head?... Really? We're to believe that a gang of rapists wouldn't have at least *threatened* her with that sometime over the course of an entire year? That that was somehow a line they weren't willing to cross? Or that the idea never occurred to them?? ha. It just becomes ridiculous to claim things both ways, and it weakens the case for each! and other highly unlikely circumstances. And the last hurdle stumped the characters for entirely too long to be believable. Strengths- the heroine was strong and showed good judgement and exhibited skills, and was honest. And the hero acknowledged his own feelings, which were fun to watch unfold, and he prioritized her wellbeing. I liked them both. And there was a decent balance of drama and some good side characters.

I loved this book even though it was tougher to read than the first due to all the trauma that the heroine had to deal with. It’s a shame that there only seems to be these two books as I really like these families and would have read more of them.

So many of my favorite themes!!! I loved this. I don't want to wait a whole year for the next! Which also plays into a trope I adore!

I did think it weird that Bowen and Genevieve both thought they "had" to be separated, even when they both told each other they loved each other. I kinda made the last little bit of angst feel manufactured. But still, overall, great! (4.5 stars)

p.s. This book has stood up on many a re-read! (Dec 2016)

This historical romance was a very captivating story. The heroine's torture brought on pretty strong emotions but I felt satisfied with the resolutions at the end. Some inconsistent behavior unraveled too slow and I peeked ahead. Bowen is sent to run captured clan and encounters Genevieve who bears an ugly scar on her face.

This book was SO depressing. I just finished the McCabe trilogy, and this is a new series from Maya Banks. I like the author and her writing style, but this story was so heavy. It focused on the female protagonist, Genevieve, who had been abducted and abused for a year. Her tormentor scarred her cheek for good measure so no one could want her. This is the second book in the trilogy, and I want to read the first and third book in hope that they are happier than this one. The male protagonist is gentle and kind, but they don't get out her terrible clan until chapter 20! They had a sweet courtship, but it was so slow. Her clan, the one she was abducted to, threw rocks at her and called her names. I was more interested in the side character Taliesan than the protagonist. Thankfully, Talie is the character in third book that doesn't come out until next year. I also thought the theme throughout this series was each female was physically marred (deaf, facial and emotional scarred, and a limp) but wasn't affected on their kind nature. This book wasn't very good, but I'm anxious for the first book to come in the mail (if it ever gets here!).

Not impressed. The main 'romance' arc was vastly overshadowed by the hints of Taliesin and Brodie, which I can only assume is a set-up for the next novel in this series. Also, as I had not read anything in this series prior to this (an ARC), I was definitely irritated by the lack of sufficient back story. The author did a half-hearted effort to provide major salient plot points, but I really felt lost for the first hundred pages or so.

I had higher hopes for this book. While Bowen is a sexy and tender-hearted highlander, I was sort of bored. A lot of repetitive exposition and description -so much so I thought it was an editing issue. I didn't buy the relationship either. Lust and curiosity perhaps, love, no. Also Taliesan is a very annoying innocent character. She was way too bright eyed and sympathetic almost to the point of seeming simple. I am dreading a book devoted to Brodie chasing after her. Yikes.

First of all, I didn't read this book for its historical accuracy and I don't think anybody else will. Because there are several words used and things done that are not right. But still, I loved it like a fat kid loves cake!

The romance between the heroine and the hero just made me happy and the interactions between the brothers and the different clans is fun to watch. Genevieve is very traumatized and my heart bled for her. She can only open up to Bowen even though she rather wants to push him away at first. And Bowen is swoonworthy! He does everything to make her happy and is even willing to sacrifice his own happiness.
I'm so much looking forward to the third book in this series!

The one thing that truly irritated me was that after the heroine was held captive and raped repeatedly (by different men!) for more than one year, there was never a possible pregnancy mentioned. But then she slept a few times with the hero and she gets pregnant! Magic peen, or what?

I liked this story but I liked Graeme &Eveline's story better. So I couldn't put 5 because of Genevieve's betrayal. And I don't appreciate stories when the heroine is raped.

Maya Bank's HRs are head and shoulders above her contemporary romance. This sequel continues to impress. I loved this one as well.In this book, we meet Genevieve, the woman who had been held captive by the evil McHugh, the same man who kidnapped Eveline Montogmery. Regardless of what she does, Genevieve appears to be hated by most of the McHugh clan, but Bowen seems drawn to her. Genevieve gets Bowen Montogmery to promise to send her to an abbey, because being sent back to her family is what that she fears the most. She doesn't want to bring more shame upon her family name. Bowen must go through the land and decide who is loyal to McHugh and what to do with the keep and ultimately what to do with Genevieve--because she played a role in Eveline's mistreatment. This story was well written. It flowed well with the prior story. I found the characters engaging and reasonable. I felt so bad for Genevieve but also bad for Bowen as he was between a rock and a hard place a lot. Maya Banks created very compelling characters and I look forward to the next book

I love Maya Banks and I love series books. The strong development of family ties and strong character traits are always a part of a Banks story, regardless of time or place of storyline. Bowen is a strong alpha male, whose intelligent, thoughtful and reasonable even under pressure. Genevieve is born with a silver spoon in her mouth. She is kidnapped, torn away from her family, then physically, emotionally and sexually abused by an entire clan for over a year. Yet, she manages to maintain the core values with which she was raised within her family. The two slowly learn the truth of each other and find solutions for problems. The story is, of course, action packed, entertaining and enjoyable. I don't read many historical romances anymore, but Maya Banks is definitely an exception.

On her way to an arranged marriage, Genevieve McInnis' situation got even worse. Being kidnapped and held captive by one of the most cruel men in the area, Genevieve had to think quick but show her patience in waiting for a time that she could change the situation she was in. Finding a way out may have their own consequences, but Genevieve was willing to risk anything to get out from under Ian's control. After helping his brother rescue his new wife, Bowen was tasked with cleanup. Deciding what was to be done with the McHugh's that didn't run away after Ian was taken care of, Bowen struggled with his respect for her endurance and his need to get to the truth of what has happened and what part she had in it. Book 2 ..... The best part of reading a series is that I can get to know the characters even better. This series is one of them. I really liked the first book so much and this one was a great next story. The tidbits of information that I got out of the first book was just enough to set up this book and then this book took it farther. I like this series so much, the characters are easy to get emotionally connected to and the story so easily flows from beginning to end that the book was just over and I didn't realize that I had read the whole thing already. I can't wait for the next book in this series (Highland Ever After, due out in September 2013)

First off let me say I loved this book - If you have a hunkering for an outstanding highland romance - this is sure to cure your sweet tooth. An Amazing & Heartbreaking Story (Yes - I shed a few tears) I loved the romance between Bowen & Geneviere - the only thing keeping me from giving this a solid 5 stars is some of the so called honor & blame attached to the story - I do however love the fact that Geneviere was able to have a part in the retribution of the hell she had endured, even though I would have like her to of had a bit more...This will not be the last Highland Romace I read by Maya Banks - I am dying to catch up and read Eveline & Graeme's story. There were enough hints in this book that I know I'll love it too...Thanks Librarything for the chance to review and adding another author / series to my "buy on release list"

I received my copy of Highlander Most Wanted through LibraryThing's Early reviewer program. Maya Banks instantly pulled me into her world, and I absolutely loved both Genevieve and Bowen. I am normally not a fan of historical romance, but the book was written well enough to keep me interested. I can't wait for her next book.

I received this book as a LibraryThing Early Reviewers copy. I have not read any of Maya Banks previous books, but had always heard wonderful things about her stories. Unfortunately, I don't believe that this book lived up to the hype of the author. I felt like I really needed to read the other books in the series to understand the main character. I got the sense that there was a lot more back story that wasn't covered here and that this did not make for a great stand alone book. Instead I found myself frustrated reading this story and wondering why the author kept calling attention to a deformity or a scar on Genevieve's face, when it really didn't have a lot to do with the romance or interactions of her and any other character. I understood that she was very mistreated and her brutal past was retold with many unpleasant details and the scar was the physical embodiment of the pain. I did feel compassion for Genevieve, but it still left me wondering as to why the focus on the physical scar if the main character still found her beautiful. I also didn't find Bowin, her hero very appealing. I'm sure that he had to have more back story in another book because I just found their romance lacking in development. I wont go as far to say that this wasn't a good book. I just found it lacking as a stand alone novel. I'm sure I could enjoy another one of Maya Banks books and maybe even another one in this series. I just wasn't wowed by this lone story.

Highlander Most Wanted is my least favorite of the four books I've read to date, written by Maya Banks. No particular reason comes to mind. However, I suspect it may be because the story is a sweet, melancholic story of rescue and renewal; a necessity in handling the topics of kidnapping, torture, and rape. You'll neither find overt passion nor senseless mind games in this story, which is rather refreshing, when I think about it. I intend to read future stories about the Montgomery and Armstrong clans, as I believe Ms. Banks' Highlander series to be worthwhile, despite of how this review might be interpreted by some.

I love this series but this one was not by favorite. Genevieve is definitely in need of a hero (after suffering terribly under Ian McHugh & his keep) and Bowen is the perfect man for the job. Riding up to overtake McHugh keep and try to get thing in order for Graeme, he is every bit the hot "take charge" kind of Scott I like! *yay!* But there ended up being something that almost held me back from just totally loving him or this book. While I loved Bowen and Genevieve's part seemed real, I felt like their romance was lacking. Not even in chemistry but also as if Bowen was a little too "easy" if that make sense.Am I glad I read it? Absolutely! Was it a good book? Yes - just not one of the best of of this series.

My rating: 5 of 5 starsHighlander Most Wanted is the second on the Montgomery/Armstrong trilogy. This is a 2013 Random House/Ballantine publication. The Montgomery and Armstrong clan, once bitter enemies, unite to avenge one of their own. Once the battle is over, Bowen Montgomery finds a handful of people belonging to the McHugh clan still there. Among them a disfigured woman the others claim was Ian McHugh's whore. But, Bowen is told the truth about Genevieve and puts her under the protection of his clan. Genevieve, was kidnapped a year ago by Ian McHugh and disfigured as well as being used by him whenever he wished. Her shame is so great that even though Ian is dead, she refuses to let anyone tell her family she is still alive. Her only request is to be taken to an Abbey so she can live out her life in peace. But, then Bowen gets wind of some terrible rumors about Genevieve and believes she may have to answer for her crimes. This was a really good Highlander novel. There is some difficult subject matter in this one. Genevieve is subjected to cruelty beyond comprehention. Her spirit is completely broken. Bowen is a strong Highlander Alpa Male, but is very sensitive, loyal, and tenderhearted. He is strong enough and selfless enough to make a stand for what is right and put others happiness before his own. This novel has elements of forgiveness, redemption, friendship, true love sprinkled with steamy romance that leaves you wanting more. There are some action scenes, but most of the story's focus is on Genevieve and Bowen, which I think worked best for this type of story. Overall an A+ Thanks to the publisher and edelweiss for the ARC copy.

Read from February 25 to 27, 2013Read for Review (edelweiss)Overall Rating:4.25Story Rating:4.25Character Rating:4.25First Thought When Finished: Beauty and the Beast reversed and there were kilts! FTW!Story Thoughts: Again Maya has wowed me with a story that involves an unusual character. This time it was a reverse Beauty and The Beast type of story. I thought Genevieve's story was heartbreaking and yet at the same time hopeful. She had external scarring that only scraped the surface of showing the internal/mental scars from a brutal year of torture. Her journey to "freedom" was beautifully told and with each step she took towards being her own person again, the more I was rooting for her! For me, this whole story was based on one woman's struggle to reclaim her life and set a new journey for herself. Though Gen did not always see it that way, as a reader it is what got me invested!Character Thoughts: Genevieve was a strong, smart, and incredibly damaged leading character that screams root for me. She was put in a horrendous position and lived when a lesser person would have died. What she put up with from the clan, through the old laird, and even from Bowen in the beginning made me want to scoop her up in a bear hug! Bowen, what to say about him. Can't say he was really my favorite in the beginning and he really only got me on his team when he stood up for Gen (not out of lust but out of protection). In the end though his kilted manliness won me over.Final Thought: Why or why don't I have the third book yet *sigh*

I did enjoy this book but not nearly as much as the first. I found the hero's character to be lacking and the initial interactions not really what I hope for in my romance novels, I understand that some of that has to do with Genevieve's circumstances and how she came to be in the McHugh holding. I did truly enjoy the way she overcame the abuse she suffered at the hands of the entire McHugh clan, treatment which even today would be difficult for any woman to come back from. I found this was a book more about Genevieve and the love story between her and Bowen was more of a backdrop. I was disappointed in the portrayal of Graeme's initial reaction to what drove Genevieve to some of her decisions and her hand in Eveline's abduction I felt that it was truly out of character for him based on the first book, however Eveline's reaction as well as Rorie's was exactly what I expected based on the first book.. I felt I finally got a small look at Bowen's true character at the end of the book when he realized he must go against Genevieve's wishes by contacting her family an act which he knew would cause him lose her. I also found the ending to happen a bit abruptly. I am still wondering what is to become of the McHugh clan, I would assume that part of the story line will continue in the next book. I am still looking forward to the next installment, but hope for a more rounded development of both main characters.

Sometimes love blooms when we least expect it.This author is superb at setting the mood of a story through her descriptive language and beautiful imagery. The first words that come to mind when I think of a Highlander are rugged, deep, and dangerously beautiful. These words not only describe the hero of our story, but the landscape as well. The heroine has to face pure evil everyday in the form of her captor, a cruel laird who takes great pleasure in her pain. She is basically treated as nothing more than an animal and a hated one at that for over a year. What really got to me was that despite all of her mistreatment her will was strong as ever. Her body may be broken, but never her spirit. Genevieve really made the story for me and my heart went out to her. Seeing her finally gain her freedom was one of the highlights of this book. Bowen never intended to fall in love, but that is exactly what happened. Meeting Genevieve changed him and he never wanted to let her go. I really liked his character. He wasn’t the traditional Prince Charming and definitely had his less than charming moments, but he was there for Genevieve when she needed it the most. He was patient and kind which is exactly what Genevieve needed. I also didn’t fail to notice the amount of chemistry between these two. This story will put you through a roller coaster of emotions and make you believe in the power of love.

I received this from Early Reviewers. I have read the others in this series and have enjoyed them all. This one was a good addition to the series. It needs to be read after "Never Seduce a Scot" because it builds on the events in that book. Genevieve has been held captive and abused by Ian McHugh for the past year. Bowen and the rest of the Armstrongs and Montgomerys return after the last book to finish off Patrick McHugh to find him gone and the keep struggling for survival. Genevieve is a strong character, has has lived through hell and has come out the other side with some pride intact. She was physically and sexually abused by Ian and continues to be emotionally abused by the rest of the clan, and she just squares her jaw, walks past and spends a lot of time in her room. But she still has mercy for them and their predicament. She has very strong values, she is very admirable. Bowen is appalled at the treatment that she has endured and falls in love with her strength and character. I enjoyed this book a lot and had a hard time putting it down. The characters were deep and drew me into the story. I thought it was a good read.

“Highlander Most Wanted” is the second book in The Montgomerys and Armstrongs trilogy by Maya Banks and as usual she does not disappoint her readers.“Highlander Most Wanted” picks up right where “Never Seduce a Scot” ended and involves many of the same characters you came to love. You really should read the books in order or you will miss out on the depth of the characters and characters is where Maya Banks shines.Genevieve McInnis, a prisoner in the McHugh keep crosses paths with Bowen Montgomery, brother to Graeme who has sent him on a mission of clan warfare. She has been damaged on the outside but is a beautiful person on the inside and Bowen is enchanted and determined to win her. There is a problem though, Bowen’s loyalty to his brother and the hurt Genevieve caused Eveline, Graeme’s wife, in an effort to get the clans of the Montgomerys and the Armstrongs to come to the McHugh Keep to rescue Eveline and as a result of that, Genevieve. It may all just be too much for them to overcome. I refuse to give away what happens, you will just have to read the book for yourself to find out but I will tell you will not be able to put the book down until you finish it. I read it in less than a day and the only bad thing was that I was done and that the series is a trilogy and now I am more than half way through it. I can’t wait for the third book in the series, “Highland Ever After: The Montgomerys and the Armstrongs”, due out September 24, 2013 to see how this all ends with Taliesan McHugh, an important character in this book and Brodie Montogmery, Graeme’s other brother.

This is a great Scottish romance! I haven't read the first book in this series, but this can be read as a stand-alone novel. All the MCs and supporting characters are wonderfully written. I will be stopping by the public library to pick up the previous book tomorrow. Nice to see a heroine overcome adversity. One of the best Highlander romances I've read in a while. ABOUT THE BOOK:In Highlander Most Wanted, a reclusive woman content to live in the shadows shows a Highland warrior the true meaning of love. Genevieve McInnes is locked behind the fortified walls of McHugh Keep, captive of a cruel laird who takes great pleasure in ruining her for any other man. But Bowen’s rugged sensuality stirs something deep inside her that longs to be awakened by his patient, gentle caress—something warm, wicked, and tempting. Bowen seizes his enemy’s keep, unprepared for the brooding and reclusive woman who captures his heart. He’s enchanted by her fierce determination, her unusual beauty, and her quiet, unfailing strength. But wooing her will take more than a seasoned seducer’s skill. For loving Genevieve, he discovers, means giving her back the freedom that was stolen from her—even if it means losing her forever.REVIEW:Really, what more can you expect other than a fabulous book, with a great plot, awesome in-depth characters, and a can’t-turn-your-eyes-away plot from Ms. Banks? This piece was really good. It had all the mixings for a book that stays with you long after you put it down. I loved all the twist and turns in this as well as the great characterization. I felt as though the author made her characters work for their HEA, and that’s the way it should be. Nothing should just be given. I also loved how we got to see characters from the previous book, that was a nice touch. This one tore at my heartstrings, frustrated me, and made me laugh all at once. It’s definitely one to pick up as soon as it’s released. Five out of five stars for a job well done.
