- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5simple but touching. While this book was set in the Great depression it doesn't deal with the event just with lack of employment and poverty. It was nice to read a christian book without all the preaching. while this book wasn't a WOW book it was an easy read that I enjoyed & would read others by this author
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5In Kansas in 1936, drought and dust ruled the land and crops failed to grow. Desperate for a way to earn some money and provide for his growing family, Harley leaves the farm and finds a job with the WPA building a castle in Kansas. Back home, his wife Anna struggles to feed her girls while awaiting the birth of another babe. Unbeknownst to either of them, the very man Harley asked to help Anna in his absence is still in love with her and plots to get her back. An interesting story and well-developed characters make for an enjoyable and entertaining read. Inspirational in nature, this novel is not overly so, and the Christian attitudes are a believable part of the characters’ makeup.
