Despite that I found the book slightly confusing with all the different 'pathic abilities I thought the book amazing. There were so many different cultures and the Sange were definitely a culture worth reading about. Mystique was an interesting, wonderful woman and when I found out what had happened to her I felt like crying. I am so very glad that she found a place to live and love in freely and with welcome.

This review can also be found on my blog.

After finishing the Nightwalkers series to a most satisfying end, I thought I'd take a small break and try one of J.F's stand alone books to cleanse my palette before diving into the Shadowdwellers. Now I don't know if that was a good thing, or a bad thing. Good because I fell in major lust with the Pack of the Sánge and bad because there are no plans to continue this into a series. Well, that just breaks my heart.

The Sánge are despised by many races because of their ritual of drinking blood during sex, among other things, and it has led them to live somewhat isolated from others. However they have a deep seated culture full of honor, and they have struck up some profitable trading relations with a few less judgmental races. The Sánge are all telepathically gifted, and Reule, Prime Lord of the Sánge, is the most powerful of them all.

He shares this strong bond with his Pack, comprised of his closest friends and fellow warriors. One night they're on patrol to eliminate the threat of their enemies, the Jackals. They not only find one of their brothers, but also a young woman, an outlander. Both are near death when they're rescued. Reule can not explain his instant attraction to the woman, who has no memory of who she is or how she found herself in that situation. One thing that seems certain is that she feels a strong tie to Reule and feels safe around him. With nowhere else to go, she has little choice but to stay in their Keep. Her presence tests Reule's control and iron will like no one ever has before. Her lack of memory means that she doesn't have to behave a certain way, so she is free to say what she feels and thinks openly. Before long, Reule and Mystique are both driving each other mad with a fierce need. But what of her past? It must have been traumatic enough to make her forget. Knowing that much, will it tear them apart or will it just not matter in the end?

Mystique was a great heroine. She was kind and understanding, even when faced with skepticism and maybe a little animosity by the other Pack members. What I liked most about her was the fact that she wasn't a simpering fool. She was always quite straightforward with her thoughts and opinions. That made for quite a few amusing moments throughout the book.

"I thought a subtle hint would be more acceptable than bluntly saying I wanted to help so we can finally get around to becoming lovers. Since I prefer the frank and honest approach better anyway--" She broke off and grinned, a flash of white teeth in a soot-streaked face, when the entire Pack all but fell on the ground laughing.

Reule was just grateful he was filthy because he had a feeling he was blushing.

Reule, sweet, gentle, hot-as-hell-in-full-Regalia, able bodied, ...... I think I loved the boyish charms of that man more than anything. He could both be serious and very playful and still come across as the tough leader. The way he cared for Mystique and her well-being was very tender and sweet. The other characters were great too. They each had their own personality that piqued enough of my interest to want to know more about them. Their easy bantering and playfulness made me chuckle a few times as well.

Every last member of the Pack, exempting the traveling Amando, knew he wasn't pleased with their antics, so of course they pushed him. They wanted to see just how far they could go before provoking him into making an ass of himself.

This story has just become another favorite of mine by an author I only discovered over a week ago. I love the different worlds of supernatural beings she creates. I enjoy the plots well enough to keep turning the pages and foregoing sleep. Her male characters are powerful alpha male types, but they're proud of their mates and treat them as equals quicker than what I'm used to. Also, I love that all her female heroines get in the thick of things and kick butt. What makes her characters even more endearing is the humor and strong bonds of friendship. Last, but not least, Ms Frank writes some pretty wicked love scenes .... seriously hot stuff.

Wow, I never thought I'd see the day when a series could topple my love for the likes of the BDB or Midnight Breed. But it's happened. Sadly, Ms Frank's blog says that she has no plans to turn Drink of Me into a series. I'm not above begging, pleading, using voodoo or any other nefarious means to get her to reconsider. I want, no have to know what happens to Darcio, Rye, Delano and Chayne. Will they follow their Prime's example and find something other than Pack business to occupy their time?

I was so emotionally engaged in this book's world. I hope some day Jacquelyn Frank will make this book into a series.

SynopsisIn a world where emotion can be a deadly weapon, one slight, battered runaway holds the key to a dark and twisted enigma...Drink of me, she whispers, her silver eyes trusting, pleading. What female dares speak such words to one of the Sánge? His people are scorned by every race for their fierce sensuality, their fearful rituals. And as Prime, Reule is the most telepathically gifted of them all.But nothing has prepared him for the intensity of emotion radiating from the outlander rescued by his Pack. Terrified, tormented, but beautiful beyond measure, Mystique shatters his legendary control. As she reaches for him in the steamy heat of the healing baths, he knows this blind need can have but one end...In blood, in knowledge, in ecstasy. Review: Holy crow this book was hot! When I started the book, I had trouble following it. While the author uses very descriptive writing, making you feel as though you are there with her characters, the beginning had confused me a bit. But as with any new series, I find this is nothing new. It is a matter of pushing through those first few chapters and finding a new friend through the characters that you want to see get past whatever troubles or problems they are presented with. In Drink of Me, I found that Mystique/Sylva was very easy to like. She encompasses just what each person wish to see and wishes in a friend. She was full of compassion, very strong and independent, and was able to joke around with anyone she met. She didn’t try too hard to get the other characters or the reader to like her, it simply came naturally with who she truly was.Reule….. *sighs* Reule, just oozes a ton of sexuality. His character was also the same. Ms. Frank did not have to make him out to be something he was not in order to get the fans to like him. Reule is the Prime (aka, King) for his Sange pack, a fanged and clawed tribe of telepathic warriors. In the beginning of the book, this Sange pack raids a Jackal compound where Reule senses a great sorrow in the house. Following the trail, he finds a woman, sadly neglected and hidden away in the attic. When she touches him, he senses she is more than just any woman. Removing her from the home, he sees that she is cleaned up and taken care of. Then he will have to decide what to do with her. Mystique is the name she chooses for herself, but she has no memory of why she was in a Jackal compound or who she was before she came to be there. She does know she can trust Reule with her life and heart, but what happens when her past catches up to them before she can remember what it is? The trials that these two come to face, the obstacles they overcome and how the author shows how trust and understanding can lead towards love and new lives was a true pleaser. This book was a genuine pleasure to read and I look forward to Ms. Frank making this into a series. I loved this new and interesting world and how the Sange are big, tough Alphas, but when they love, they are tender and sweet. I hope there will be more books set in this world, perhaps even a full series. I think readers will really enjoy the Sange and those they love. My rating for this action packed, heart clenching, very erotic series is 5 out of 5. I look forward to more from Ms. Frank.
