About this audiobook

In July 1970, actress Elaina Styles was slain in her rented Seattle mansion along with her husband and their son's nanny. When the baby's remains were found buried in a shallow grave close to a hippie commune, police moved in-only to find all its members already dead in a grisly mass suicide.

Now, decades later, a film about the murders is shooting at the mansion. On-set caterer Laurie Trotter ignores gossip that the production is cursed. But then people start dying . . .

As Laurie digs deeper into what happened all those years ago, she discovers that the truth is more twisted than any whispered rumor, as a legacy of brutal vengeance reaches its terrifying climax.

No One Needs To Know by Kevin O'Brien is a five star read, start to finish. It is the first book I have read by this author but I just added all of his books to my wish list. He is a masterful story teller. While the story line kept me guessing moment to moment, the characters are well written & believable. It gave me a sleepless night because I kept telling myself: Just one more chapter. The suspense was intriguing. Now I've got a book hangover. That's the best recommendation I can give a book. The main character Laurie was being stalked by the brother of the man she had a brief fling with while her husband served in Afghanistan. She contacted the police."The local police had already had several brushes with Ryder McBride. 'Him & his gang on that farm off Highway 97 have been a major thorn in my side,' Don Eberhard had said earlier, switching off the tape recorder on his desk for a moment. 'McBride's been arrested several times--& each time's he walked. We couldn't make any of the charges stick. The scumbag's as slippery as a greased flag pole.'"There were brief moments of confusion that arose toward the end of the book when the same woman was described but without the clarity that they were aliases. With continued reading, the meaning became clear & it did not detract from the book as a whole. If you enjoy suspense-filled thrillers, I highly recommend this book.I would like to thank the author, Kensington Books, the publisher & NetGalley for a complimentary kindle copy of this book. This did not change my opinion for this review.

This is the story of Laurie Trotter trying to hold her life together. Her life is complicated and everything she tries only makes it worse. The plot is well written, action and suspense, with a murder mystery thrown in for good measure. The characters are well developed. The story has an ending, no continued in next book. No One Needs To Know kept me interested from beginning to end. I received this arc book for an honest review.

Catering has never been this exciting - unfortunately it's still pretty dull.

No One Needs to Know is another suspense-laden and intriguing mystery by Kevin O'Brien. This slow-building novel has multiple story arcs that keep the story moving at a brisk pace while frequent plot twists make it impossible to guess how the seemingly unconnected storylines will converge.

The novel opens with an ominous confrontation between Laurie Trotter, a widow with a young son, and a customer at the diner where she works. At first, she cannot figure out why someone would target her, but once the connection becomes clear, Laurie is anxious to keep a secret from her past from being revealed. She suffers in silence as she is mercilessly stalked and after an altercation turns violent, she is desperate for a new beginning. Her new job working as an on set caterer for a movie production is the answer to her prayers, but Laurie's dream job quickly turns into a nightmare when people connected with the movie begin dying under mysterious circumstances.

Unbeknownst to Laurie, her new boss Cheryl Wheeler is keeping a few secrets of her own. Not too long before hiring Laurie, Cheryl's co-worker and friend, Maureen Forester, met an untimely death when their food truck exploded. Although the police ruled out foul play, Cheryl is convinced the explosion was no accident, but she does not let this stop her from hiring Laurie to work with her on the movie set.

The pair immediately hit it off, but Laurie rapidly senses that all is not right with Cheryl. Doubts quickly set in after she learns startling information about Cheryl from her new neighbors in the complex where both women live. Cheryl's behavior on the movie set is also quite suspicious and her unsettling familiarity at one of the film sites raises even more red flags. But it is not until Laurie sees Cheryl arguing with a man in public and the man (along with his wife) are later murdered that she becomes truly fearful for both her and her son's safety. However, before she can get herself and her son out of harm's way, Laurie becomes an unwitting accomplice in Cheryl's quest for justice.

In No One Needs to Know, Kevin O'Brien seamlessly weaves events from the past and present into a fast-paced and riveting mystery that is virtually impossible to solve. The main characters are sympathetic and well-developed with complex histories. The premise is unique and the plot is quite interesting with numerous of twists and turns that effectively keep readers guessing whodunit (and why) until the novel's dramatic conclusion. An absolutely outstanding thriller that fans of the genre are sure to enjoy.

I had never read a book by Kevin O'Brien before, but I will definitely be looking for more after reading this one. This is a thriller that you do not want to put down. There are actually two storylines in the book that come together with the main character.

Laurie is a widow raising her son Joey in the small town of Ellensburg, but is being stalked by a former boyfriend (Tad) and his crazy brother (Ryder). They both insist that Joey is Tad's son, regardless of all proof to the contrary. When they break into her home and Tad is killed, she decides to quietly relocate and begins a new life in Seattle. Cheryl, her new boss in Seattle, has secrets, but Laurie just does not know what they are. She is working in a catering business that is working on a movie set of a brutal killing 44 years earlier. There seems to be bad luck surrounding the movie as people are dying, including Cheryl's previous co-worker. Cheryl even sets it up for Laurie to live in her co-worker's old apartment. Meanwhile Ryder is still searching for Laurie and Joey. Are the things happening related to her old life or her new one? Lot's of secrets abound in this book. I definitely recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good thriller.

A special thank you to Kensington, and NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Not nearly as good as some of his other books particularly Tell Me Your Sorry. This book was far to wordy and the lead female characters were just not that believable or interesting. The book was fine for a thriller, just not a thriller by this author, who has produced far better books in the past.

This was my first book by author Kevin O'Brien. I was surprised at how long the book was, over 400 pages, but it reads easy and was a real page turner.Laurie is the main character. She is being harassed and stalked by the man she had an affair with. When a job offer arrives from Seattle, she jumps at the chance to begin again with her young son in a new city where no one knows her. She becomes a caterer on a movie set that is rumored to be cursed and was the site of a gruesome set of murders in the 1970s.There are two stories going on here that make for some stay up late, thrilling, page turning action. Yes, it was quite unrealistic at many points, but sure fun to read. Can't wait to check out more books from this author. I received a complimentary ebook via Netgalley.

A web of deceit and lies, No One Needs To Know is constructed in a very complex manner, with more than one intricate crafted storyline. This is a story filled with disappointments, regrets, and loss as Laurie Trotter faces difficult choices and challenges.Laurie’s life has changed drastically because of a foolish affair she had with Tad McBride while her husband was in Afghanistan. She is now a war-widow and mother of an infant son. Laurie is a trained chef and doubles as a waitress and short-order-grill cook at the Superstar Diner. She is respected around town, but her life is falling apart because Tad and his despicable brother are stalking her. Laurie is looking for a safe haven for her son and herself and finds a job in Seattle. She begins to work in a food truck and catering business owned by Cheryl Wheeler. And the story unfolds as tensions escalate and mysteries unravel little by little.I have mixed feelings about this book. It was certainly well written, with stressful and tense moments throughout, and there were great plot twists that kept me guessing. But I must say – I just didn’t find the storyline to be addictive or engrossing. It was just lukewarm. There was a large cast of characters that made it difficult to keep up. The premise of the book was intriguing, but slow moving. It could’ve been wrapped up 100 pages sooner. The ending was acceptable, but rather disappointing, and not very realistic. My rating is 3 stars.

I received this book free from netgalley and Kensington in exchange for an honest review.Last summer, I read "Tell me you're sorry" by this author and it was fantastic, so I was very excited to receive an ARC copy of his newest book. This thriller had a few things going on at once. We first meet Laurie and are brought into her life in Ellensburg. She's a widow raising her son Joey, but is being stalked by a former boyfriend and his crazy brother. They both insist that Joey is her ex boyfriend's, regardless of all proof to the contrary. She decides to quietly relocate and begins a new life in Seattle. But this isn't the fresh start that Laurie imagines. She becomes caught up in a web of mystery as she begins her new job catering with another woman, Cheryl, on a movie site of an enactment of a famous 44 year old murder case. Soon, Laurie's new life takes on a sinister slant of its own. Are the things happening related to her old life or her new one?As I found with the other novel I read last summer, you just don't want to put Kevin O'Brien's books down. Both were over 400 pages, but still fast paced. He doesn't give anything away and I was constantly guessing who did what, and trying to figure things out. This author is a master at writing thrilling mysteries that are worth the ride.
