About this audiobook

Inside a maximum-security prison cell, Abby Maddox is serving twenty years for slashing Seattle PD officer Jerry Isaac's throat during the harrowing capture of her former lover, serial killer Ethan Wolfe. To the demented fans, lunatics, and creeps on the outside, she is a celebrity. But to Jerry, now a private investigator whose scarred neck and tortured speech are daily reminders of Abby's vicious attack, she alone may be the key to solving a new wave of murders. Because this killer has been sending her love letters, and carving a message on the victims' bodies: Free Abby Maddox.

With the help of intuitive criminology student Danny Mercy, Puget Sound State professor Sheila Tao, and seasoned detective Mike Torrance, Jerry must coax the shattering truth from isolated, dangerous Abby-before her number one fan takes another life in the name of a killer's perverted idea of justice.

This audio is awful! I love this author, but this is one you speed up just to get it over with.

The audio cut a few words off at the end of several chapters. This def wasn’t as good as creep but it was still good. Wish there was a 3rd book.

I like the story but the character voices were so awful it was distracting. Was hoping she would kill Morris off so I wouldn’t hear his stupid voice again.

My least favorite part of this book was the narration. Very slow and hard to listen to for any length of time.

The book itself is alright just drags in places. In fact it was a slow listen for me. Less is more!

Unfortunately this sequel is not memorable in a positive way. I really didn't enjoy it. There should never be this many stupid people in a suspense, crime novel.

Couldnt get through the first 5 chapters because the narrator is so god awful. I stuck it out with Creep (same narrator) by speeding it up so it was bearable but the raspy voice she does for the other main character is too much to handle for 7 hours. Gonna have to get this in paperback because Jennifer Is phenomenal and I want to read the entire series.

Narrator sounds like she has a mouthful of saliva. It was hard to listen to. Story was OK.

Minus Ethan, the gangs all here and back for another round. Abby Maddox is now in jail serving a 9-year sentence for what she did to Jerry. The problem is that young women who resemble Abby keep turning up dead with a message to free Abby. Jerry and his old partner are back on the case. Much to Morris's dismay, so is Sheila. Abby is out for revenge on her, so it's about to get worse. Great storytelling, and Jerry was one of my favorites from Creep. Him being center story here made this one a bit more enjoyable than the last book.

Both Creep and Freak are good books with good story lines and good character development but neither offered Powerful Descriptive blows for the reader that could have impacted the storyline making it a great Story. Everything just missed the mark as far as I'm concerned and left me disappointed hoping for more. With the premise and what the titles represented, I was hoping for dramatic, powerful and descriptive scenes that would leave me chilled to the bone from the depravity. What we did get was a vanilla, watered down version with predictable outcomes. So for the more aggressive horror fan these books are not for you. Add a star if you like it toned down.

I'm glad Jennifer Hillier got better and better with time. I enjoyed the story and actually enjoyed the narrator too. I think her voicing really brought the characters to life. Would recommend as an easy read, as it's not gore or scaring at all.

I wasn't enamored with Creep, but since I'd already purchased Freak, I figured I might as well read it. The sequel to Creep, Freak picks up a year after the events in Creep. Abby is arrested, Morris and Sheila still aren't married (and are having relationship problems...still), and Jerry and Marianne are separated. There's a new serial killer on the prowl, one that carves "free Abby Maddox" on the victims' bodies. I liked Freak marginally more than Creep, but not by much. I still find it nearly impossible to care about any of the characters in the book. Even Abby Maddox, who is supposed to be some charismatic pied piper who can induce people to blindly follow her, falls flat. And I could see the big "twist" a mile away. The author leaves the book somewhat unresolved, so I'm sure there will probably be a sequel at some point in the future. I'm not sure if I'll pick it up, though.

I love to read books that keep you guessing right until the end. I had no idea how this one was going to end, even if I’d been able to make a guess I doubt I would have been close. There were so many twists that by the end I didn’t even care about guessing. I was so engrossed in this story that I wasn’t even looking to the future, I was tied to the right now. The writing was awesome in this one. There are some scenes that were fairly graphic and yet it didn’t come off as being gross, disgusting, or in poor taste. It was gruesome, disturbing, and shocking, but it was so well put together that it didn’t really phase me. It was an important part of a very good story.I liked how the characters were developed in this one. Everything wasn’t just thrown out there at the beginning. That would have ruined the story. As certain parts of a character’s development were needed they were expertly added to the story. But things didn’t feel like they were just thrown together. As we learned something about a character it was quickly integrated into the story. I can’t say I particularly liked any of the characters – they all seemed to have something that made them not the greatest people – but I was truly engaged and wanted to know what was going to happen to them next. Even though I felt as if I knew them all each time a twist was thrown in I would get to see a side of them that I didn’t know existed.I can’t say enough how well written this was. Even when the story was getting gruesome I couldn’t put it down. The writing was so good that it really pulled me in. I was so drawn into the story that I just couldn’t focus on anything else. I had to keep reading because no matter what was going on in the story I just knew that something even more awesome was coming on the next page. Given all the horrible things that went on in this book I’d normally say it was very difficult to read. But with this one everything fell into place and even the horrible events were necessary.I think this was probably one of the best written books I’ve ever read. It was exciting, and suspenseful and truly pulled me in right from the beginning. Hillier is definitely a master of her craft and I will be picking up more of her books! People always say “She/He could sing the phone book and make it sound beautiful” I think if Hillier had written the phone book it wouldn’t have become almost obsolete!
