Twelve years ago, forensic anthropologist Jamie Cash survived a brutal kidnapping. After years of therapy, she has made a life for herself, though it is one that is haunted by memories of her terrifying past. She finally lets herself believe that she can have a close relationship with a man, when signs start appearing that point to one frightening fact: her attacker is back and ready to finish the job he started all those years ago.

What else is there to say but JLA did it again by writing another awe-inspiring story. I can't get enough of her awesomeness. She seems to just magically be able to write stories that are so compelling and make you want jump for joy. Stories that draw you in from the first page and you don't want to let go even after it's over. I can't help but fangirl when I write a review for one of her books. And Don't Look Back was no exception. Right away I was drawn in by the story and I knew I was going keep second guessing myself about how it will end (being that it was a mystery). The writing was clever and kept me on the edge of my seat, so to speak, at every twist and turn. I really enjoyed this book and I like how the story and the characters developed throughout. I felt it was very realistic and made me believe what Samantha was going through. Samantha was a well developed protagonist who made the story that more convincing. Carson wasn't so bad himself. I really like him as a hero and he added a lot to the story as well.

Reading is kind of a an escape sometimes and I always feel very contented when I finish a book of JLA's. There might still be a bit of a book hangover but that's okay, as long as I can bounce back quickly and find another Jennifer L. Armentrout book to sober me up and do it all over again.

This was definitely an intense read--so much so that there were times I had to take a break from reading it, even though I really wanted to know what happened next. I do agree with another reviewer that for some people, the story line could be a trigger. That said, I pretty much suspected who The Hero would turn out to be. Though there were a few twists that I didn't suspect.

So many suspects! I didn't figure it out until the end right along with Cassie. (Popular name for a lot of books this copyright year.) my mystery readers will love this one.

Samantha is having a very bad time…she wakes up one morning and finds that she can’t remember a single thing about her past… absolutely nothing. Two people say they are her parents…Burt are they her parents? They could be anybody as far as she’s concerned.. Her best friend Cassie is missing and could possibly be dead somewhere. Samantha was the last person to see Cassie that night before she disappeared but Sam has no idea even who Cassie is let alone where she could be. Sometimes a few vague memories will pop up but nothing she can hold on to. Does she really want to go back to the person that she was before? Before her memory loss she was popular, but very rude and extremely demanding. She’s also sure that certain people are hiding things that they don’t want her to remember? This story is filled with suspense and mystery….but I became a little tired of Samantha’s constant whining and indecisions. I also don’t think it was really explained what happened to caused the problem to begin with.

It starts very similar to [b:Right Here Right Now|21946655|Right Here Right Now|Nikita Singh|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1397811811s/21946655.jpg|41251461]. But takes more of a mystery route than teen angst. Sure, there are prom, crush and break ups, but they take back seat here. More focus is on the mystery surrounding the protagonist and the people around her.
It goes from edge of the seat thriller to surreal dream sequences. Good thing there was variety in narration. I liked it more than Right Here Right Now.
(This is why hate rating system. I had to give both the novels same rating, even though I liked Don't Look Back more than Right Here Right Now.)

Despite its many flaws and cliches, "Don't Look Back" wasn't a bad read. The mystery was well done, I never suspected who killed Cassie, but the romance between Sam (Samantha) and Carson tended to smother the rest of the book. However, I did like Carson, he was a sweetie, and the relationship between Sam and Scott was touching. Scott was a brother any girl would love. In fact, Carson and Scott were my favourite characters.Sam was likeable, but I didn't feel that her drastic personality change was believable. I couldn't accept the fact that making friends with Cassie could change a sensible, nice, kind girl into such a horrible, selfish witch and then become her former self again after her amnesia. I was also surprised how easily Scott, Carson and Julie welcomed Sam back into their lives when she was so terrible to them while she was Cassie's friend. Also, she was very naive and accepted everything people told her without question."Don't Look Back" started as a promising thriller but didn't deliver. Some parts worked, but many didn't. However, it was a quick, easy read with a surprise ending.

    Kurzbeschreibung:

    Autor:

What just happened!? WOW! That is all I can say to sum up my emotions after reading Don't Look Back. I started this yesterday and finished it early the next morning. This book started with a bang from the first page. I have been in a reading slump, and thank goodness for JLA! This was exactly what I needed. This thriller kept your guessing and every chapter left me wanting more.About half way through I literally stopped reading to go tell my husband what was going on (not that he cared), but I was so Ahhhh! in the moment I needed to talk to someone. I did the same thing once I reached the end! He was laughing at my reactions, but again this what a good book should do to you. This does involve teenagers and some mean girl moments. But, the rest of the book takes over and I can look past those annoying parts. They all still held the book together. I still loved it and give this 5 stars.

Have you ever wanted a chance to start over? To erase all of your memories and start life fresh? That's exactly what happens to Samantha Franco, except her memories begin with her standing on a road covered in blood and dirt. She has no idea who she is or how she got there or what happened. After being taken to a hospital, her identity is finally figured out and her parents show up a few hours later. Too bad she has no idea who her mom and dad are, that they are super rich, that she has a twin brother, she has a boyfriend who she is basically betrothed to, and she and her mean girl friends basically rule their high school. She also has no idea that her best friend's name is Cassie and is missing.

Good character building. Good twists and turns. Really good twist at the end that you don't see coming until it's right in your face.

I kind of liked this book. It's a mystery surrounding the reappearance of Sam after a night of hard partying with her best friend Cassie. Only no one seems to be happy about it and Sam doesn't understand why. Her brother told her she used to be a b-i-t-c-h and his best friend hates her. So it gets confusing when her heart starts thumping faster whenever he's around unlike the non existent reaction she has around her boyfriend.Things are revealed at a steady pace but nothing caught my attention. I only picked this book out because it was an available audiobook at my library. But it was by no means a terrible story.

Sam has been missing for four days and when she is finally found and starts to recover she is surprised to discover that she was not a very nice girl. I was intrigued by the personality change, and the mystery and the tiny bit of romance as well.

This needs to be a movie.
I don't know what it says about me as a reader, but I didn't guess who it was they were looking for until almost the end. When Sam remembered everything that's when it all finally clicked it. Hahaha!

I love this because it's very, very different from all other JLA works. I loved the mystery, the romance, and everything!

Wow. Wow. Wow. I would give this book 10 stars if I could. Jennifer L. Armentrout, you are amazing. What an incredible story that I simply couldn't put down until I knew what had happened. I can normally get some idea of what the plot twist will be but I did not see it coming at all. I absolutely loved Sam and Carson and her brother, the characters were so real and reminded me of people I knew in high school. The story was tragic and suspenseful but was wrapped up so beautifully. I hope that this won't be the last mystery novel Jennifer writes!

I received a copy from Netgalley.

I did actually request this book from Netgalley twice. Once when it first came out which I think must have been the US version, I didn't hear back from them for months and correctly assumed that I had not been approved. So when I saw the book up again for the UK version I put in another request. Once again I didn't hear anything for several weeks and probably thought wouldn't get it again as it was reasonably close to publication date. So I went and pre ordered the Kindle version from Amazon.

On the morning of release day I got my email from Amazon telling me the book was now available and downloaded it to my Kindle. And guess what? Checked my emails lunch time at work....wouldn't you know I actually got an approval email to view from Netgalley. Oh well.

As it turned out, I really enjoyed the book. The mystery aspect caught my attention right off. The book starts with the heroine in a very dishevelled state wandering around and picked up by local police and taken to hospital. Something horrible has happened but she has no memory of anything at all.

I read this book in two sittings. The story was completely absorbing. Despite the fact that I didn’t actually like most of the characters. The main character Sam I did like, as she has to discover all about her life and what happened to her. She’s a spoiled rich bitch and before The Incident she is the biggest bitch of all.

She goes through a turmoil of emotions as things start to unravel as she discovers who her friends are, who her boyfriend is. What her family is like. Most of these people are all of the uber rich variety and are awful people with the personalities of a dish cloth. Sam to her credit is horrified by her behavior and realizes with help of some people her bitchier self rejected. She has been given a second chance to be a better person.

I thought the book dealt with her memory loss very well and the terrible things she goes through trying to get her memory back and figuring out what’s real and what’s not. And even though I had several theories about who the killer was, I didn't guess right at all. Exceptionally well written with a very twisty turny plot. Kind of soap opera like, but very enjoyable.

So thank you Netgalley and Hodder and Stoughton for approving my request to view the title (even though I already purchased a copy) I enjoyed the book immensely.

And I’m crossing off a square for Book Bingo – due to the nature of Sam’s memory loss and how she has to handle it – for me this is checking off the ‘Features Recovery’ square.

This is yet another representative of the female-who-had-traumatic-event-and-forgot-everything genre. But common tropes aside, this is an engrossing, entertaining book.Police find seventeen-year-old Samantha (“Sam”) Franco wounded and confused along the side of the road, with no idea who she is or how she got there. Her identity is determined and her parents located, but she has no memory of them. Nor does she remember her best friend Cassie, who disappeared along with Sam, but did not return.Sam is surprised to find out that the person she used to be was pretty awful. Moreover, she isn’t much taken with Del, the guy who was her boyfriend. On the other hand, she has an immediate chemistry with the Carson, the best friend of her fraternal twin Scott. But she learns that, like her mother, the old Sam was contemptuous of Carson because his father is the landscaper for the wealthy Francos. Scott tells Sam everything is going to be okay, but Sam isn’t so sure:"Because it wasn’t okay - it was never going to be okay. I was stuck in this life I didn’t remember, squeezed into the shell of this girl … and the more I learned about her, the more I was starting to hate her.”Scott explains to Sam that she used to be a different person (more like she is now, since her accident), until she started hanging out with Cassie, and then she changed for the worse - much worse. Sam asks Carson if he knows why she was like that, and his response is one of the best parts of the book for making a lesson-like point:"‘Jesus, Sam, I wish I knew, but I don’t. Your parents were good to you. And so was Scott, and even though you changed when you started hanging out with Cassie, not everything can be blamed on her. You made those decisions.”As the story progresses, Sam’s memories start returning in bits and pieces, until finally they come crashing down on her, and she learns the whole stunning truth of what happened to her and why.Discussion: The fact that Sam doesn’t remember how awful she used to treat people provides the author plenty of opportunities to expose a “normal” person’s reaction (i.e., the “new” Sam) to the bullying and cruel behavior of the "old" Sam and of her ostensible friends and boyfriend. And Carson may have been too good to be realistic, but I have to applaud one of his positive attributes not usually present in too-good-to-be-true guys, which is that he asked permission before every physical move he made on Sam.Evaluation: This story has lots of tension, good pacing, and is plenty scary, although there is nothing supernatural going on. It’s definitely a page turner.Note: A number of reviews mention that the reviewer saw the ending coming. I never did. I may be the dumbest reader on the planet, but perhaps because of that, I was totally immersed in the story and raced to the end.

This book is soo good, that half-way through, I had to go to the bathroom and held it till the next chapter. I literally ran to do my business, but I absolutely refused to put down this book.Plot: This is about a girl who wakes up with amnesia. Her best friend is missing and everything that everyone needs to know is hidden inside Samantha's head. I honestly think this plot is set up so well that there is no one who won't like it. It not only captures the reader but totally engrosses them!Mystery: One great aspect about this story is the mystery behind it. Samantha has no idea who she is but she is finding out. I like that they reader got to see who she is but also who she is now. I like that Samantha learned about herself and changed, (not that she had a choice) but she is better. Samantha learns about herself, along with the reader so you don't ever feel left out or confused.Love: There is another part of the story I didm't think would show up since there is a lot of mystery. If anything, this part is the icing in the cake. I like that Samantha went along with her heart and not what everyone tells her.Ending: I'm not going to say anything," HOLY CRAPOLA!?!" I DID NOT SEE THAT COMING AND IT TOALLY BLEW ME AWAY!!Take my word for it and go read this book. It is a great mystery that will leave you gasping for air. Don't Look Back is freaking sweet!!

I received this free eARC in exchange for my honest review. LOVED this book! (No surprised there, though.) This was so different from JLA's previous books and I wasn't sure how I would take it. I shouldn't have worried, though, this woman is a machine who spits out books like it's nothing and is amazingly talented. Aliens, gargoyles, gods/goddesses, and now a murder mystery that will keep you guessing. Though, I do have to say, half-way through the book I figured out who killed Cassie. I just didn't know why the murderer did it. That I wasn't able to figure out until it was revealed. And even though I guessed right about who the killer was, I was still SO SHOCKED when it was actually out in the open. I really didn't think that character would do it. Okay, so now that I have ya'll wanting to know who the killer is and you have to wait to read it, my job is done. Also, I really like the new Sam. The more she found out about her old self the more I was glad she lost her memories and got a second chance to start fresh. I would have hated the old Sam and knowing my high school self would have made that very clear to her, to her face. I would not have done well knowing that old Sam. But the new Sam? We could have been great friends and I think that is the true Sam of this story. This was an amazing book. JLA is an amazing writer. Seeing a pattern here? You should probably join in on this amazingness - just saying. I also love how this is a stand alone novel - a very rare occasion for JLA. Seriously, read this and read this author. The writing is impeccable and you will be sucked into this novel, not wanting to stop reading but not wanting it to end either. So good. Okay, I'm done gushing. Well, until her next book!

I wanted to read Don't Look Back because I love Jennifer Armentrout as an author, and pretty much anything YA and NA she writes goes automatically on my wishlist. (I can't speak for adult stuff, since I haven't for whatever reason tried them yet.) While the mystery feel isn't always my favorite as far as genre, I would be intrigued by the synopsis even if it wasn't JLA because the memory loss is always a topic that catches my eye, and especially more so that she wakes up and discovers the life that she lead she didn't much like. I wanted to put together the pieces of what made her change from the Sam she used to be into one that was a mean girl and seemed to contradict her natural sense of how to treat people. I got caught up in her story, like her trying to make her and her best friend's disappearance make sense, as well as the obvious different of the Sam that wakes up with no memory of the past and the one who was there before the accident. Her family is super surprised along with her friends and boyfriend at how differently she is looking at life, treating others, and it brings her and her brother Scott closer, as well as his friend Carson. We realize that they have a history together, and there is obvious chemistry and attraction between them. It is the only kind of semi cheating that I can deal with because I never got a good feeling with Del, and it is almost like two different Samanthas. I had my suspicions about what happened to Samantha and Cassie, some of them were affirmed by the pieces of memory and also visions that Sam keeps having and others seem to lead me away from my thoughts. But Jennifer always manages to throw in things that I didn't seem coming. Really, she had me suspecting everyone from Sam herself to the mailman (not really, but I think that I suspected everyone in the book at some point.) To have such a confused narrator, everything is thrown into question and with such a personality change, it also ostracized not only herself but the other characters. She keeps me so entertained from her snarky wit to her flawed but relatable characters, smoking hot guys that have a deeper level than just the looks and charm, and her fast paced stories. The romance was great and I liked the friendship aspect that they built as children and the complicating factor was the middle time where she was a mean girl. The ending took me by surprise but I appreciate that it showed that the truth came out, character growth in Sam, promise of hope in the future for healing, moving on, but still remembering a hurting girl who died too soon. Bottom Line: Great mystery from an unreliable narrator. Throw in some humor, hot romance and flashbacks you have this amazing book by Jennifer.

Samantha, Connor, Dakota & Jamie are at it again trying to solve murders of a serial killer and catch this horrific person. This time around it is very very personal to Jamie, he was her captor 12 years ago and they are trying to track him down as they have discovered that she was not his only victim and Jamie was a very lucky girl to escape so many years ago. This one drug me in from the get go and was pulling me in throughout the entire story. The Characters are so intriguing and with a little bit of faith throughout and a lot of hard work and fear they work through this one as well. A must read in my eyes if you love a good mystery.

I like detective novels - good ones. I picked this up because of a woman's review that I read here on LT and I really enjoyed the book. Eason keeps a tight pace through-out the whole experience, the action is lively, there are several turns, a few real surprises. It was refreshing to read a book with no junkies, hookers, unwanted pregnancies, swearing or sex yet filled with excitement, compassion, life challenges including characters of integrity. I am a Christian and appreciated that thread through-out, but I believe that anyone who can appreciate a quick and satifying read will spend their time well with Don't Look Back.

Do you ever read a book by an absolutely wonderful author and it feel utterly, fantastically real? I have....first with Lynette Eason's Too Close To Home and now with Don't Look Back. I love crime drama/romantic suspense, and the fact that Lynette Eason's are Christian ones, makes this (and book 1!) book that much better. Ms. Eason's words are gripping and her characters are loveable, and her action is instant, keeping me hooked until the end. Don't Look Back picks up right where Too Close To Home left off. And like book 1, the adrenaline rush starts immediately! Jamie and Dakota's story is fast paced, full of page turning, edge of your seat suspense, that is absolutely amazing. I could literally feel Jamie's fear and hope as if it was my own. That blood pumping rush really kept me going in this book. Jamie's past was terribly horrific, but can she really over come it? And sweet, sweet Dakota-bless his heart- who wouldn't fall in love with this FBI cowboy? I did.....way back in Too Close To Home, when we first met him. His past isn't so good either, but can he trust in Jamie enough to over come his? Can he turn to God and FULLY accept Him? Lynette Eason really made Dakota UHmazing! He totally gripped my heart and didn't leave until the end (and not really even then as I can still feel him and Jamie right there!)This is better than book 1 by a thousand miles. Blood pumping, heart racing, page turning suspense and romance, filled with a message from God about not looking back into your past and letting go to move forward, this book will be forever on my book shelf. Definitely worth the 5 stars that I gave book 1, only I want to give it so many more! The only downfall to this novel....I have to wait for the next installment in the Women of Justice series! EEEKKK! I can't wait for that one! But, in the mean time, I will be recommending Ms. Eason's FANTABULOUS books to EVERYONE. They are so worth the read.*This book was provided for review by Revell, a division of Baker Publishing*
