About this audiobook

The Blue Bloods have powers beyond human comprehension: strength that defies logic, speed that cannot be captured on film, the ability to shapeshift, and more. But in matters of the heart, no one, not even these immortal vampires, has total control.

In Bloody Valentine, a companion novella to the best-selling Blue Bloods series, author Melissa de la Cruz delves deep into the love lives of the all-powerful vamps from New York’s Upper East Side – Schuyler and Jack's passion for each other, Mimi and Kingsley's tangled romantic history, and even a possible cure for Oliver’s heartbreak in the form of a witchy new girl. In both prose and verse, Bloody Valentine reveals the undying love, the hope and devastation, and the lust and longing that have defined the Blue Bloods throughout history. Prepare to be swept off your feet.

This book was pretty good. I liked the way the author had the stories set up, they tied up some loose ends for me. The pictures at the ends kind of ruined my image that I had in my head though, I was thinking of something more beautiful. All in all it was q good book.

Nope. This "novella" seems to just set up the authors new series, Witches of East End, instead of furthering any character development. What did I expect from a book numbered 5.5. Really ending the year with just some horrible novels. Ugh.

Love the in between stories to compliment the main ones. Now more than ever I'd like to get my hands on Witches of East End.

Ok, well that took about an hour to read, if that. I don't know about this series. As it goes on, I'm getting increasingly disinterested in it. The character development was very nicely done in the first few books...but now the characters fall flat on the pages. I use to really like Schuyler's character because she was independent and did her own thing. Now she's so dependent on Jack it's nauseating.I also don't understand this whole half book between the actual book thing (the keys to the repository, bloody valentine). If Cruz just added some more details they could basically be their own books in the series. Maybe it's just me but these books feel so rushed with all the information she tries to cram into it. I would have liked to see the fight scene between Jack and the venators in more detail, but it just happens and bam it's done.I also didn't like how Allegra was portrayed in this book. We don't really know much about Allegra because for almost the whole series she has been in a coma, but as Cruz writes of Allegra before the coma happened, she just seemed annoying and selfish. She treated Charles like crap when all he did was love her as was supposed to happen in their subsequent lifetimes which made me really start to dislike Allegra's character.I feel like Cruz would be better off in making these full books instead of in-between books. This one was interesting but I had those issues with it. I guess we'll just have to see where the next blue bloods book takes me.

I thought Bloody Valentine was a lot of fun. It fills in some holes and gives extra information about Allegra and Schuyler's dad. There are three short stories, one about Oliver after Schuyler leaves him, one about Allegra and Ben, and then another about Schuyler and Jack. All of the stories were quick reads and I liked getting insight into the characters. I thought that there was a rather large jump in between books 4 and 5 (The Van Alen Legacy and Misguided Angel), like how Oliver got over Schuyler, and how Schuyler and Jack bonded. This cleared that up, which I appreciated. I also really loved getting more insight into Allegra's and Charles's characters (and meeting Schuyler's dad!). Allegra is such an interesting character because we hear a lot about her, but don't get to see her. Reading about her running around and going to school was a nice change. One thing I didn't like was how Schuyler and Jack were able to resolve the conflict in the third story. Honestly, it wasn't very believable for me, which kept this story from being really great. On the up side, however, there were a few drawings included at the end, which I thought were cool.I would definitely recommend this book for fans of the series; like I said, it's a fast read, and it fills in some holes. Bloody Valentine is a great addition to the Blue Bloods series.

I love the Blue Blood series! I have been following this series from the very beginning. And I adored the stories in the book. The first story was about Schulyer's best friend Oliver and his uh,... one night stand. Well mostly he is trying to get over Schulyer and is doing everything he can to avoid her. I think this story gave a great detail of his heart breaking and him trying to mend it. I truly felt sorry for this guy. I hope that he can one day find the one.The second story is about Schulyer's mom Allegra. I loved getting to go in to the past and lean about her falling in love with Schuyler's dad. She has visions and is scared. I thought this story answered some questions I had about Schyuler's mom and the past. The third story is about Jack and Schuyler bonding ceremony. I thought it was sweet and enduring. I can only hope that things can get better for them in the future. If you are Blue Blood fan you'll love these stories, I think they fill in a lot of questions of what if's and what really happened here.

First and third story are great, an interesting addition to the Blue Bloods story. Liked the second story, except it did not give enough explanation. Left me wanting more!

BLOODY VALENTINE, by Melissa de la Cruz, is the highly anticipated novella about the romances in this series. I love this series anyways so I planned on reading it the second I heard about it, but another plus was the cover. Isn't it absolutely gorgeous? It follows the same theme of the other covers, but I think the flower sealed the deal to make it my favorite so far! This novella is split into three short stories. The first being about Oliver meeting a lady friend in NYC. This was the shortest of the three. It definitely had a bittersweet ending but it definitely gave me some closure. The second story is about Allegra when she was in school and how she met Schuyler's father. I really enjoyed this story. So far in the seriess Allegra hasn't given us much info about her life before being in the hospital. It was exciting to read about Cordelia again (I missed her!) and a younger (and somewhat bratty) Charles. The last story was the longest, and most anticipated. Jack and Schuyler were preparing for their bonding. If you didn't think these two were meant to be together before, now is the time to give it up! I love how their relationship has grown. They are more attuned to each other now then ever and both would stop at nothing to protect the other. Their relationship is beautiful and magnificent to read about. There was a little action in this piece but the main focus was their bonding. Melissa pulled out all the stops on making their ceremony breathtaking. Fans of this series will want to pick this up as soon as they can. It is a lovely little treat and gives a little more insight to this amazing vampire series.

Not bad, but they keep getting shorter and shorter. I'd call it more of a short story. I read it during lunch and played with my iPhone for the rest of the hour - it's an okay book, but don't expect it to kill much time.

Altogether, this was a nice, easy collection of stories. Oliver's initial story in the book set a fairly depressing tone, especially since I always felt for him. His story seems to try to make you feel that Oliver will somehow be "okay," but I felt overwhelming sadness for this character and all he's been through as Schuyler's much-used friend (talk about an understatement). The other two stories in the collection were nice additions to the back story that we've wanted. I've especially wanted to know more about Schuyler's mother, and this collection gave us a small glimpse into her story. On the whole, this is a well-written compilation. If you have read the series (and I would definitely recommend you read the other books beforehand), these stories are a nice addition to what we know about the characters. Besides, the cover is so pretty, how could you resist picking it up to get a little more to the back story?!?

This was a set of three short stories set in the Blue Bloods series, timeline wise they take place after the fifth book in the series, Misguided Angel. The next full book in the series is due to be released in October 2011 and will be titled Lost in Time. Overall this was an okay read for fans of the series. It fills in some gaps that were apparent in Misguided Angel and takes us through the bonding ceremony for Schulyer and Jack. There are three stories in this book. The first is from Oliver's perspective. He is dealing with his dependence on Schulyer's blood and a witch named Freya enters the story to help him. Freya is going to be featured in Cruz's new series The Witches of East End (due out later this summer). The second story tells about how Allegra and Ben meet and fell in love and is set in the 1980's. The third is the longest and tells the story of Schuyler and Jack's bonding ceremony. All of the stories were okay, but none of them progressed the story much. It was nice to get some background on what was happening with Oliver, he kind of got dropped in the last book and I missed him. Hearing the story of Allegra's past gives some excellent insight into Schulyer's parents and why they made some of the decisions they did. Of course Schulyer and Jack's bonding ceremony was nice to read about and actually had some interesting parts to it. It was also good to hear a bit from Bliss and find out some about what she's been up to.I am going to be honest, Misguided Angel, wasn't my favorite of the Blue Bloods books...it seemed a little bit like filler to me. This set of short stories is similar. It is nice to know what is going on with some of the characters that were missing in Misguided Angels. This book still feels like filler to me though. I am starting to wonder if Cruz really knows where she is taking this series. I plan on reading the next book, Lost in Time, in hopes that the epic story that was so awesome in the fourth book will be picked up again and progressed.Overall well-written and an okay addition to the series. Mainly little filler stories to fill in the parts that were neglected in Misguided Angel. A fine light read, but not much progression as far as the story goes. I am hoping that the next book, Lost in Time, picks up the main story again.

This is 3 stories in one book. I would have to say my favorite is Jack and Skyler getting bonded. I am afraid though, that I am getting a little tired of this series. At first I LOVED them and don't get me wrong I still like them, but the series is really drawing out. Cruz just need to finish the series already.

For reasons I don't understand, I love this series and I keep reading all the 'in between' books. This one is a collection of three short stories that take place before the most recent book, and far in the past. I liked them all and it went a long way to keep me from being annoyed with Jack and Schuyler. I also still love Oliver. I did find, though, that I don't care as much about Schuyler's mother as I could, but that was okay. I cannot wait for more in this series.

If you are a fan of the Blue Bloods series then you will definitely enjoy this one. It's a short and quick read and is made up of three short stories. It was somewhat of a surprise to me that I enjoyed all three as I'm usually not a short story fan and in a book like I rarely find myself liking all the stories. I suppose I shouldn't have been too surprised since I am a huge fan of Melissa de la Cruz's writing. One story follows Oliver as he struggles to deal with his love for Schuyler and the consequences of letting her go. We also see the introduction of one of the characters, Freya, in Melissa's new series the Witches of East End. My heart ached for Oliver and I was glad when it ended the way it did. Freya looks like she is going to be an interesting character in this new series and I can't wait to read more about her and her sisters.Another story follows Schuyler's mother when she was a "teenager" and meets Schuyler's father. I enjoyed this one but it definitely left you wanting more and I couldn't believe it ended where it did. I really wanted to see more of Schuyler's father and what happens between him and Allegra. The third story follows Jack and Schuyler as they are on the run and we actually get to see their joining. Schuyler showed some kick ass skills and the ending definitely leaves you hungering to find out what is going to happen with Jack when he confronts Mimi. All three stories were phenomenal and will leave you anxiously waiting for the sixth Blue Bloods book, Lost in Time, due out in October and her new series The Witches of East End which has it's first book due out June 2011.

Three novellas about the Blue Bloods and matters of the Heart.Just Another Night in Suck City: Oliver Hazard-Perry meets Freya the witch. Occurs during the time of Misguided Angel.Always something there to remind me: A young Allegra Van Alen falls in love with Bendix Chase in 1985.Ring of Fire: Schuyler and Jack's bonding ceremony. Occurs after the events in Misguided Angel.

Another novella in the Blue Bloods series and this one was even better than the last! I love all the mini stories about different romantic situations in the series that we hadn't heard before. The best part for me, was seeing Freya. I haven't read the Witches of East End books yet (they're on my list for this year!) but I do watch the show and I'm a big fan! I also enjoyed the little peek into Allegra's past. I'm glad the author chose to give us these little stories.

Background: Bloody Valentine is a novella in the Blue Bloods Series which tells three stories of couples. Oliver, Allegra, and Schuyler and Jack. Oliver's story is first, followed by the story of Allegra and Schuyler's dad, then the bonding of Schuyler and Jack.

Review: I am not sure about this novella in the series. I understand what de la Cruz was attempting to do- give us some insight into these relationships ad where they are in the series, but it seemed to be lacking a little. Oliver's story is first and the most depressing. He is fighting with himself over his bond to Schuyler and almost gives himself away to the Blood House to relieve himself of her. After attempting that and failing he falls for a witch who helps him and then up and leaves without explaining why. Next is Allegra's story about meeting Schuyler's dad, this one I enjoyed, except that she was very teenage angst and attitude. Schuyler and Jack's bonding story was also ok, but some things weren't explained as well as they should have been, it seemed a very (excuse this) half-assed attempted at writing a story. Tell it but leave out all explanation about interesting things...you will have to read it to see what I mean :/

Holy novella Batman! Bloody Valentine is a fantastic tie in novella to the already much loved by me Blue Bloods Series. This is one of the few series I have been reading even before I became a book blogger and my love for all things Van Alen has yet to diminish one bit. What I freaking love about this book is the fact that we get to see so much about Allegra, so many mysteries are laid to rest as we learn more about the early life of Charles and Allegra van Alen. We even find out who Schuyler’s human dad is!We also see Oliver make some bad decisions while trying to overcome his addiction to being bitten, and his love for Schuyler. During this time we are introduced to one of the Witches of de la Cruz’s new adult title coming soon The Witches of East End.The bonding, oh my the bonding. Of course with Jack and Schuyler it couldn’t come off without some hitches but it was beautiful. I feel like a mother who’s baby is all grown up and is getting married as I read these two lovers exchange important life long vows.I seriously cannot wait for the next book Lost in Time slated to come out in October of this year!FTC Disclosure: I bought this book on my Nook.

In the first story we get to see Oliver finally heal and get over his love for Schuyler. We also get a small introduction to the upcoming book The Witches. The second story is about how Allegra first met Ben, Schuyler’s father it was interesting look into Allegra & Charles’ past. And the final story is the one we’ve all been waiting for Schuyler & Jack’s bonding with a few hiccups and some action along the way. We also get to see Bliss which was nice since her name wasn’t even mentioned in the last book. This was an ok little addition to the Blue Bloods story I don’t really understand why Oliver’s story and the bonding story couldn’t have just been in the last book though.3 ½ Stars
