      I'm really impressed with the detail and complexity of this unusual story. Jillian Anderson did a wonderful job narrating/dramatizing.

      Based on the cover, I was not expecting this to be as good as it was! Definitely a page-turner.

      I enjoyed the story line but the narration was flat. I was really excited that Gillian Anderson was narrating, but she just droned and every time I listened I fell asleep nearly instantly.
      Not sure if I’ll go on to the next.

      I think the premise is interesting. The characters were a bit flat, and the narration tone didn’t fit the tone of the story. I’ve finished the second book now, and it’s narrated a bit better. See this as an opening act to set the story up. The second book is more engaging. My wife and I listened to the whole second book on a very cold Canadian a Winter day (-46c with wind chill). Back to this book. The writing is competent, but not excellent. It felt a bit like a flat version of a dan brown book. More thriller than sci fi in writing style, but more sci fi in story, if that makes sense. It won’t be the best you’ve ever read/heard, but not a waste of time disappointment by a long stretch. If you like the X-files, you will likely like this too.

      I read this because I had run out of books.
      What ever happened to the rule that an author shouldn't narrate their own work?
      Gillian Anderson should keep her acting day-job.

      I am giving this 3 stars because the premise is interesting. But that is about all there is here
      The narration is flat.
      The characters are flat.
      The story is flat.
      I wish it was different. That the characters at least had some lasting human interest. But this book just doesn't give me desire to know what happens to them later outside the story.

      Unless one knows that there are two sequels, there is nothing in this book that foreshadows a continuation. The ending is flat. So flat in fact that the book doesn't even work as a stand-alone.

      Now, if one views this as a manuscript that Gillian wrote because she wants to act the main character - she wrote role for herself, sure as an x-file episode with a good director it might work gloriously. As a fantasy/sc-fi novel it does not.
