About this audiobook

Emma Chase, New York Times bestselling author of the Tangled series, returns with a funny, romantic, sexy story!

A knight in tarnished armor is still a knight.

When you’re a defense attorney in Washington, DC, you see firsthand how hard life can be, and that sometimes the only way to survive is to be harder. I, Jake Becker, have a reputation for being cold, callous, and intimidating—and that suits me just fine. In fact, it’s necessary when I’m breaking down a witness on the stand.

Complications don’t work for me—I’m a “need-to-know” type of man. If you’re my client, tell me the basic facts. If you’re my date, stick to what will turn you on. I’m not a therapist or Prince Charming—and I don’t pretend to be.

Then Chelsea McQuaid and her six orphaned nieces and nephews came along and complicated the ever-loving hell out of my life. Now I’m going to Mommy and Me classes, One Direction concerts, the emergency room, and arguing cases in the principal’s office.

Chelsea’s too sweet, too innocent, and too gorgeous for her own good. She tries to be tough, but she’s not. She needs someone to help her, defend her…and the kids.

And that—that, I know how to do.

Entertaining, never a dull or boring moment, and not a slow start so overall a good read??

This was a fantastic story. There was a good deal of humor that had me laughing out loud. If you have kids or even a good amount of experience with them, this is especially relatable. I think it was well written and my interest remained from beginning to end. There was never a dull moment.

I hated the way he treated women in general although I imagine there are people like that in the real world. I thought the part where she invited him to dinner and then took off with her friends was dumb. He gets there and has to babysit suddenly lol? I would think very few people would go for that. That was a little out there for me especially when he catches her idiot supposed friend trying to get her to have sex with him. Could anyone really call someone portrayed like (disrespectful loser) that a friend? She was so concerned for the kids and keeping them, but then allows people like that to come in the home? To me, that whole circumstance could have been left out. It was just too out there for me.

#Jack #Chelsea I absolutely LOVED this story! Emotions running wild on the last few chapters. But what a beautiful audio! And then off coarse, Sebastian York is my most favourite Narrator! Voice to die for!

Welp, this book broke my book slump all to pieces. If you don't like books where the H starts out as a complete asshole playboy, this one won't be for you....but I LOVED watching him soften and fall in love, not just with the h, but with all the nieces and nephews that she is the guardian of. Soooo many swoony moments that had me up in my feels....so many sweet little moments of bonding between him and the kids....I just couldn't stop listening!

Sebastian York's voice doesn't always seem to suit characters, esp. age-wise....but I thought he was a great match for this story.

[this book gave me "The Takeover" (TL Swan) vibes in some ways, and that's a Good Thing.]

Of course loved the narration. The voice fluctuations were in all the right places. Could of had fewer detailed sex scenes. I mean I get it but detail the first one then in general or hint at the next 12. Lol
    Anyways, great book.

After reading Overruled, I knew I would love Jake Becker and he didn't disappoint. Neither did Chelsea. Emma Chase once again delivers laughable moments watching the lovebirds struggle to get to their HEA.

"It's a diaper. How Hard could it be?"

Ms. Chase gives the reader the type of Hero we expect. Playboy, cocky, never looking for Ms Right just for Right Now. Chelsea was a strong female thrust into a situation and making the best of it. The story is told from Jake's POV. I was disappointed slightly at times I really wish I was in Chelsea's head. The author does give you dialogue and describes our Heroine's expressions and actions so you rather know what's going on. It's just some scenes I wish I knew what was in her head.

And the kids steal the show. What I riot! Every scene they were in felt warm, honest and happy!

I love Emma Chase's writing. If you love humor with your romance, this is definitely a must read. 4.5 laugh outloud stars.

Sweet, fun, sexy. Jake has some douchebag tendencies, but they are outweighed by the kind and sexy. In real life I would hate him, but he works as a character. It is a vocational hazard that reading books about lawyers is jarring because so much is wrong. And there is a lot wrong here, but Emma Chase gets it slightly better than most. I suspect she worked in a support role in law firm, or perhaps has a spouse, partner or friend who tells her things. She definitely knows about being a parent, and I laughed at so many of the kid experiences that rang true. Overall really enjoyable for a light as air read.

5 "Family Man" Stars! Fans of romantic comedies will not want to miss Sustained! I have always been a fan of Ms. Chase's work (who isn't a Drew Evans fan?), but I have to say, I fell in love all over again with Ms. Chase's writing in Sustained! As a mother of three, and a lawyer to boot, I can totally relate to the wild escapades that Jake and Chelsea had to navigate on their journey to love. It's like starting with the mini-van and white picket fence before the first date, but totally hilarious and and yet strangely familiar and endearing all the same.Jake Becker is on his way to criminal defense lawyer super stardom. Soon he will make the holy grail of every big law associate's dreams: partner. The fact, that he has no ball and chain or kids to distract him, makes it all the more easier . . . a set of circumstances he plans to continue for the rest of his life while enjoying everything that a lucrative career can offer. When he meets a boy who tries to pick his pocket, however, he can't help but see himself in his eyes. He too was once a lost youth, and had it not been for his mentor, a judge, he would likely not be where he is today. So he takes pity on the youth and does the right thing by returning him to his home, rather than turning him in to the authorities. To his vast surprise, however, the boy is only one of six orphaned kids living in a large brood, now being taken care of by a very young and attractive aunt named Chelsea McQuaid.A few unfortunate events later for the McQuaid clan, and Jake is firmly entrenched in the front lines of this family's matters. While he is enjoying helping out, he and Chelsea can't help but feel the undeniable attraction. But can Jake afford to take his usual fast and loose approach with Chelsea, when there is so much more riding on the line? Notwithstanding what he feels, could his bottom line focused career approach ever be flexible enough to accommodate more? What a fantastic story! From the main characters to the children who play such a central role in bringing the hero and heroine together, you won't be able to help but root for them all to find their HEA!Ms. Chase's writing just keeps getting better and better. Now I can't wait for Brent's story in Appealed (Legal Briefs #3) due out this November!Source: Review copy provided in exchange for an honest review.

Jake Becker is the quintessential bad boy made good. Thanks to an insightful judge and a liberal dose of tough love Jake spends his life defending people rather than being the defendant. Rising fast in one of the most influential law firms in D.C. Jake’s on the fast track to a corner office, until Rory McQuaid picks his pocket.Chelsea McQuaid is aunt to the precocious Rory and his 5 siblings. Chelsea gave up life as a grad student at Berkley to raise her nieces and nephews after her brother and sister-in-law died in an accident. Raising six children ranging in age from less than a year to fourteen is hard for two people, let alone one. Everyone, Chelsea included, has issues relating to the deaths of Robert and Rachel but while the kids can act out, Rory especially, Chelsea is in the hot seat. No time to grieve there’s too much to do. Jake, with the Judge and a younger Jake in mind, takes Rory home rather than to the police to press charges. This is the beginning of the end of life as Jake knows it. Already reeling from a close call he’s totally knocked for a loop by Chelsea and her passle of problems waiting to happen.Jake gives Drew a serious run for his money. As a former bad boy he has that simmering, “I can revert at any time” edge that the debonair Drew lacks. He’s blunt, honest, and completely devastating. Chelsea is more subtle. She’s giving, loving, loyal, responsible, and puts the needs of her nieces and nephews above her own. She does all this without succumbing to martyr syndrome or being treacly sweet, quite the feat! Most of my favorite scenes are, surprisingly, not between Jake and Chelsea but between Jake and the children. The honesty and sincerity he evinces warms the heart as much, possibly more for moms, than the love scenes. At least that’s the case with this mom. While I enjoyed Jake and Chelsea, Jake and the children made SUSTAINED.Here’s a taste...Any parent who’s ever had to watch Barney can relate to this….The cheerfully decorated door opens a few minutes later, and the sound of Barney’s “Clean Up Song” echoes though it.The hairs on the back of my neck stand up-I have nightmares about that song.Likewise, Jake, likewise. And did I mention his commentary is hilarious? Yes, (little happy dancing here) SUSTAINED is told from Jake’s POV. Words can barely convey how much I adore the male POV relayed via Ms. Chase.Ms. Chase is certain to once again delight readers with her signature style of humor, romance, roguishly loveable heroes, and the lucky heroines who win their wary hearts. If these are qualities you look for in contemporary romance SUSTAINED should be at the top of your list.Reviewed for Miss Ivy’s Book Nook Take II, Manic Readers, & Novels Alive TV
