About this audiobook

#1 New York Times bestselling author!

Simon Snow is the worst Chosen One who's ever been chosen.

That's what his roommate, Baz, says. And Baz might be evil and a vampire and a complete git, but he's probably right.

Half the time, Simon can't even make his wand work, and the other half, he starts something on fire. His mentor's avoiding him, his girlfriend broke up with him, and there's a magic-eating monster running around, wearing Simon's face. Baz would be having a field day with all this, if he were here--it's their last year at the Watford School of Magicks, and Simon's infuriating nemesis didn't even bother to show up.

Carry On is a ghost story, a love story and a mystery. It has just as much kissing and talking as you'd expect from a Rainbow Rowell story - but far, far more monsters.

Ok, first off, this book was nothing like I expected. That being said, I thought it was alright. It didn't blow me away and at times didn't hold my attention. I may recommend to a friend that's into magic and such.

I went into this knowing only that it was a Rainbow Rowell book (I love her work), and I wasn't disappointed. I love how this sort of fantasy world is mixed with a very modern life, with references to pop culture and actual dates. It made it very real and believable and not-stodgy. I won't say more so as not to ruin this, but if you read Fan Girl, you'll be excited to read this one.

The beginning is quite slow, it gets way better once baz comes around, so just push trough the slow beginning and you'll be rewarded by a toxic but cute non the less relationship. I loved it . Tho Agatha was a bit pointless and super annoying to me

Loved it. The characters were all enjoyable and distinct. Obviously, Baz is my favorite, I feel he had the most depth. This book takes the HP story and flips it on it’s head. I love how it handles certain topics. I think this is a book all young adults should read!

If this book didn't WRECK ME I don't know WHAT it did! This book was how I imagined Harry Potter (What I'm going to try and read soon.) I told my mom that f I gave this book a five out of five stars and mean it, I'll read Harry Potter. And well, I mean it. This book was so great! And I appreciate how (spoiler) Simon ended up with PTSD after everything and didn't live happily ever after, though he did get hid happy ending. This book was such a fun and lively book. Sometimes when I listened/read, I accidentally thought I was in this world! Five out of five stars, recommended read for anyone and everyone!

It's the third time I read "Carry On" and I love it like the first time.
The characters are so amazing and the story is so breath taking... Do you know that feeling that's left when you are finished reading an amazing book? That's what I feel every time I read this book.

This book was definitely an enjoyable read. I wouldn’t say it was life changing or a new favorite like some people would but it’s definitely worth the listen.

Beginning is SO slow. It feels like being dropped into the last installment of a book series. If you can past beyond chapter 25, it gets much better. I had to take a point off for the slow start though.

4.5 star ★ Audiobook⎮I honestly don't know where to start with this review because I'm not really sure what the hell I just heard. But I do know that I liked it. Throughout the entire audiobook, I kept telling myself that this story is like a mystery flavored Bertie's Bott Flavored Bean. It's good (as long as it's not bogey flavored), but no one really knows what they are ingesting. Is it supposed to be fanfiction? Written by Cath? Is it supposed to be part of the original Simon Snow series from Fangirl? All of these questions (and many more) kept popping up while I was listening and I had to keep reminding myself to just go with it. The one thing I am sure of is that this story is too glaringly similar to Harry Potter to be brushed off as a coincidence. Anyone that insists otherwise is fooling themselves. But bless my Harry Potter-loving heart, I don't even care. It's been almost a full decade since the last Harry Potter book was released and I will take what I can get, even if it means devouring watered-down knockoffs. To me, it seems that Rowell obviously knew this book would be seen as an imitation of Rowling's work and decided to take things a bit further by almost making it a work of satire. Certain elements of this story were so ridiculous that I felt Rowell was coming dangerously close to making fun of the reader. Now, that may be pushing it. Maybe I just didn't "get" Rowell's point in writing this. I did really enjoy almost every other element of this story. Rowell has something great here, but naming spells "Have a break. Have a Kit Kat" and other completely asinine things made it difficult to take seriously (yes, I know it Fantasy). At times, it seemed like she was treating the entire book as a spoof and that didn't sit particularly well with me. But that's my only beef and if it hadn't bothered me so much throughout the story, I wouldn't have mentioned it all. I enjoyed this audiobook so freaking much, that I found myself delaying it sometimes just to prolong the experience. I also came to realize that Simon and Baz happen to be the first male/male couple in one of my audiobooks (yeah, I really need more diversity on my TBR). About halfway through this audiobook, I began to ship them SO HARD. Although I liked this story way more than I liked Fangirl, I definitely think I identified more with Cath after listening to Carry On.

Narration review: The narrator absolutely made this audiobook. His voice was so comforting and gave me "warm fuzzies". For the most part, he did a good job of changing his voice and/or accent to help the listener distinguish between the characters. By the way, this audiobook included a little melodic piece before and after the beginning of the audiobook (as some do). It was only after completing the audiobook that I realized how similar the Carry On melody is to the tune used in the Harry Potter films (you know, the one probably playing your head right now). Cheers! ♣︎

I feel like I just experienced the best Drarry fanfic, and that's okay.
Step into a world where magic is built by the meaning of words and phrases, where the hero of the story has journeyed long enough, and the slowburn is really starting to kick up some heat.

This was a reread and first time listening to the audiobook, loved the narrator, and actually listened to the sequel as well instead of reading the hard copy as I’d planned because I loved him so much! (He has a perfect Baz voice)

I loved the idea for this book, and I thought the narration was phenomenal! In the end, I was confused by the magic system and thought that different aspects of the story could have been more descriptive. I also didn’t realize this was a fan fic until about 30 chapters in — the chapters are really short which I like for audiobooks — but it couldn’t really get out of my head. I liked the character development and arcs, but found lots of redundant details added in about side characters or surroundings that didn’t add anything to the plot and ended up confusing me later. If you enjoy fantasy and some fan fiction — give this a shot! I’m glad I got a free audiobook from Scribd for this though, otherwise I don’t think I would’ve bought this.

I’ve been listening to the audiobook while reading a physical copy. I gave the physical 4.5/5 stars, but the audiobook is a bit short of amazing. Sometimes it won’t feel loud enough for the emotions the characters convey. But my biggest criticism is that the narrator hasn’t found the correct voices for each character, at least not so far in the series. Female characters are given a very ‘damsel’ like voice that doesn’t really fit them, and Simon Snow sometimes sounds more insincere than Rainbow Rowell must have intended. There are a few great examples, like Nicodemus, the Mage, and sometimes Baz, but for the most part the core characters don’t reflect the voices of the narrator. Apart from that, there are many errors when reading the book side by side. Dates change and even the main character’s age changes at one point. Thankfully it’s not too frequent, but surely something to point out.
