- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5It's a great way to deal with ones thoughts. It took me some time to get it to work though, and notice change. I'm not always able to follow it, and it doesn't always work, but there is a slight improvement every time.I will definitly recommend this book to everybody.

I almost could have forgiven the problematic self-help advice by saying "well she must not mean this for someone in blank situation," but then there was a scene that was so blatantly and unapologetically transphobic that I couldn't give the author the benefit of the doubt for anything.

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5ery interesting book. The author was in deep depression until she had a big 'aha' moment, and turned her life around by asking herself four basic questions about everything that hurt, saddened or angered her.
This book shows how anyone can do the same, to get rid of frustrations, irritations and hurt from the past. It may seem simplistic or unrealistic, but it's pretty powerful stuff, albeit not really anything other than accepting what is, and looking around problems rather than being stuck in one viewpoint.
Rather more of a Buddhist/New Age feel than I'm entirely comfortable with, but that's only a tiny part. Relevant to anyone, and definitely recommended. Four and a half stars if possible.1 person found this helpful

Is it true? Yes, its true.
Can i be certain that its true? Yes.
Turn it around, what does the entire concept have to do with you to begin with?
Because I thought that the concept behind this book had to do with just 4 relevant questions you could ask yourself to put things into perspective.
Instead it feels like tbere are 24 of them and I am just not built to analyze my dilemmas in life by giving myself a long test.
Why do you think you have a right to an opinion?
Because it's my truth.
Kudos to the author for creating something that worked for her and continues to work for other people.
Unfortunately, the entire audiobook gave me palpable anxiety. Full on chest pains, heart racing and the shakes.
I did like the teaching a cat to bark analogy. I will totally use that in the future.
Please don't perceive this review as judgemental. It's just my humble opinion.

Katie asks to think about what our lives would be like without our negative thoughts, and she encourages us to put responsibility for our lives directly where it belongs--on our selves. READ THIS BOOK!

- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5I was recommended this by my counsellor. I was very unsure about it because a lot of reviews suggested it includes a lot of victim blaming -- and this is, in a sense, true: Byron Katie's theory is essentially that we are always the ones causing ourselves pain. She does tell a woman to figure out what part her nine year old self had in her own rape, what she did 'wrong'.
That sounds very discomforting, but I think I see why she does it. When you've had some kind of trauma, there's often a question of what you could've done to prevent it. Maybe you let someone do something bad to you because you were frightened. You can believe almost totally that you couldn't have escaped the situation, but you still have that lingering shard of doubt -- and that could be a way in to learn to recover from it, starting with forgiving your own perceived complicity.
I don't think Byron Katie is 100% right. I found her attitude a little arrogant at times, and condescending. But the basic ideas can be useful and provide a way to logically see how you can better a problem by controlling your part in it. Likewise, it asks you to accept the past as it was, because that's the only way it can be -- you can't change it, only the way you relive it in your mind.
I would say, read this with caution, if you do read it. Aspects of it were useful for me, but I'm still uncomfortable about other aspects.
