About this audiobook

In Chill Factor, author Chris Rogers delivers a tale full of surprises and hard-hitting characters. When bounty hunter Dixie Flannigan arrives at the bank, she's shocked to see her longtime friend Edna Pine-a sweet and caring grandmother- robbing the bank. Edna escapes, but is gunned down by police after a violent chase where the stolen money goes missing. Local reporters are eager to lump Edna in with a string of other recent "granny bandits," but Dixie isn't buying that story.

Sandra Brown is one of my top "go-to" author's when I'm in the mood for an intense suspense/thriller that will keep me guessing. Chill Factor does NOT disappoint! I enjoy books that hook me from the start and pull me into the investigation and action. I found myself engaged in the story, looking for Red Herrings among the clues and searching for possible suspects. I truly enjoyed all the waffling I did regarding Whodunnit in this book!

The creepy characters were super creepy and you'll love to hate them. The heroine was strong, independent and a bit on the stubborn side. Yes, I liked her. The tortured hero...*swoon*...I'm such a sucker for tortured heroes. His story really caught me off guard. That's another perk with Sandra Brown. Her "surprises" make perfect sense. I also enjoyed Dutch's failed battles with the weather and his urgent need to get to the cabin. You know what they say about karma...

Overall a fast-paced thriller that will give you plenty of chills and a very satisfying ending.

This novel starts off with a ridiculously coincidental premise, usually not a good way to start a novel. Lily Burton is on her way home to Atlanta from selling a cabin in North Carolina with her ex-husband, sealing their failed marriage, when during a bad snowstorm she hits a man that she knows, Ben Tierney, a writer who she has been flirtatious with in the past. Tierney is suspected of being a serial killer. Ironically, Lily’s ex-husband, Dutch, is the police chief of a town in North Carolina where Tierney supposedly killed five women. It’s all a bit hard to swallow and not remotely believable.Even though the premise is a bit much, Sandra Brown does a nice job of putting it together with her polished prose. She is a talented writer, who with a better plot, could certainly write a better novel. Plot holes abound in this story and there is a good bit of synthesized melodrama, but it still remains a fairly enjoyable read.Carl Alves – author of The Invocation

Oh, this one kept me guessing! The small mountain town of Cleary, NC has recently had an alarming number of its local women go missing. Disgraced investigator Dutch Burton has accepted the job of sheriff of his hometown and is on the case. Unfortunately, his recently-ex-wife Lilly might be stranded in a snowed-in cabin with the #1 suspect. This suspenseful tale features excellent characterization of main characters and secondary characters alike. In fact, the fastidious hard-ass FBI agent was probably my favorite of the bunch. Multiple viable suspects keep the reader guessing, hoping it's not the guy Lilly's with, but how could it not be? What other explanation could there be for all that evidence? A decent addition to any romantic suspense reader's TBR pile.

A serial killer is on the loose in the North Carolina mountain town of Cleary. A fifth victim is suspected. Lilly Martin is packing up the final things from her just sold mountain cabin. A snow storm hits and Lilly finds herself trapped in the cabin with a man who might be the killer. Her "ex" is the local law enforcement officer in charge of the case. With the involvement of the local law enforcement officials, the FBI, and the local "posse" this one has plenty of action. It also has a couple of subplots that tie into the case. I likely would have abandoned this book if I'd been reading it. It's a bit too contemporary and too amoral for my tastes. I listened to the audio version by Harper. The narrator did a good job, but I just didn't really care for the book.

Newly divorced Lilly Martin is packing up the last of her belongings at her recently sold mountain cabin. Lilly's ex is Dutch Burton, police chief of Cleary, North Carolina, a town that has been plagued by the disappearances of five women. When a severe snowstorm strikes, Lilly is late leaving the cabin. Ben Tierney is a journalist who specializes in reporting on extreme sports who just so happens to be up in the mountains burying one of the missing dead women. When Lilly hits Ben with her car during the snowstorm, the two are forced to work together to make it back to Lilly's cabin and wait out the storm. When Lilly opens Ben's backpack she discovers a pair of handcuffs and a blue ribbon, which is the serial killer's signature. While holding a gun on Ben, Lilly handcuffs him and accuses him of being the murderer. Meanwhile, Chief Burton becomes frantic when he receives a cryptic call from Lilly. His jealousy and suspicions go into overdrive as he and his childhood buddy, Wes Hamer, plot to rescue her.

From the opening pages of this thriller, everything points to Ben Tierney as a serial killer. Yet his manner and moral strength do not match up with those of a brutal killer. Every time you think you have the plot figured out, the author throws out a few red herrings. Sandra Brown fans will definitely enjoy this thrill packed romantic suspense novel.

Lilly quickly recognizes Ben Tierney as the injured man and who she met the previous summer. Now with the storm on top of them they are forced to wait it out at the cabin. As the length of their confinement mounts Lilly begins to wonder if the storm is the biggest threat she faces. The biggest danger just might be the man that is beside her. Now Lilly has to figure out if Ben Tierney is the feared abductor or is who he claims to be is the truth. The man that has rescued her from harm and from the tragedy that haunts her. This is a story that keeps the twists and turns coming throughout the whole book. The suspense keeps building until the very end. This is one book that pulls the reader in and doesn’t let go until the very end when everything is completely revealed. Just as the reader thinks they have it figured out another twist comes to make them doubt everything they think they know about this one. The action and suspense keep the story moving along at a fast pace but the reader is never lost and will stay in a story that comes to life with every word that is read. This definitely one book that readers should take the time to read.

I got the book for free from Goodreads First Readers program/book giveaway. Having not chosen the book, I was apprehensive in reading it. I have read several Sandra Brown books and liked them because they are easy reads but unforgettable. I had some expectations about this book but Ms. Brown have exceeded my expectations. The book was exciting and got you guessing. I like how the different stories of the characters meshed together. I like how Ms. Brown kept you on your toes. I remember guessing who might be the real killer. Every chapter I have to change my answer since every guy in the book is potentially one. However, I wished that Ms. Brown added more "romantic" moments for Lilly and Ben since there were more suspense in it than romance. I guess a girl like more cheesy moments. :)Overall, I would recommend it to anyone who likes suspense and romance. :)

A well-written thriller centering around a serial killer, the police chief's recently divorced wife, and a blizzard. Well-written characters. I enjoyed the story - some parts I guessed quickly but others eluded me until the end.

One of her best! A sexy, page-turner. Lust, jealousy and murder suffuse Brown's crisp thriller (after White Hot), set in the snowbound mountains of North Carolina. Lilly and Dutch Burton's marriage didn't withstand the loss of their three-year-old daughter, despite their attempt at a fresh start with the purchase of a vacation cabin in bucolic Cleary, N.C., where the novel opens on the divorced couple discussing its sale. Dutch is now Cleary's chief of police, and Lilly is a magazine editor in Atlanta. As she races back to the city to beat a blizzard, her car skids out, striking a hiker emerging from the woods. Turns out he's a man she knows: handsome freelance writer Ben Tierney, whom she met and flirted with the summer before. With no choice but to wait out the storm in the cabin with Ben, who is injured, Lilly calls Dutch, but he can't reach her via the now impassable mountain road. Meanwhile, Cleary is haunted by the case of five missing women—all now feared dead. With Lilly still stranded, Dutch goes ballistic when the FBI arrives in town with evidence that Tierney is the serial killer. The snowy suspense will cool off Brown's fans during the dog days of summer. (Aug.)

This book has stolen the 'my favorite Sandra Brown' title from Envy. It is an extremely well crafted thriller, where everyone has a secret and even nature is the enemy. This book has it all.. secret affairs, drugs, washed-up-middle-aged-bullies, a serial killer, divorce, unwanted pregnancy, the FBI, a whole lot of snow and ice, and a red herring to beat all red herrings. Brown had me fooled through the entire novel, and even when I knew I was wrong I still couldn’t quite believe it. To me, this is the mark of some masterful character crafting. There’s not as much romance as you usually find in a Sandra Brown, but there’s enough to whet your whistle. And enough secrets to last a lifetime. There are a few holes in the police procedural parts of the plot (say that 5 times fast), but with all the intrigue, I just didn’t care.

Suspenseful yet predictable and way too sexually graphic. I'm obviously not the intended audience but that's what you get when you listen to books from the library. If one of the games I worked on had as much sex in it as this book, the media would be all aflutter and aghast. That said, it was interesting to read/hear about surviving a blizzard and the town folks were very entertaining. Sandra Brown did a great job jumping between different people's perspectives.

This was written by someone who has never been in an actual blizzard. There was a whole lot of disbelief to suspend here.
