This is another riveting work by Harlan Coben. It keeps you guessing until the end about what happened, what is real, and who the heroes and villains really are. As with most Coben novels, no one is really as he or she seems, and no one is really innocent, This novel features a female retired military helicopter pilot whose husband has been murdered. The deeper she digs the more confusing things become. It seems to be a trend with Coben lately, but things don't necessarily end happily.

There's a lot going on in this story plot. I do mean a lot. I think I believe in family more than where this story will want to take you. My first Coben book though and I will try him again.

This book had a great premise and storyline, but it left some kind of big threads hanging lose at the end. The big "twist" near the end almost didn't make sense, and I guess we were supposed to suspend our belief that this could possibly happen. But it just left me feels no confused and disjointed, and a little disgruntled as well. It was just not his best work.
Anyway, I signed on for the thrill ride, and left feeling slightly, but only slightly gypped. I still enjoyed it though. It was what I needed at the time - easy, fast, and thrilling in places.
3.5 stars, and only recommended for huge fans of the author.

Harlan Coben is a new author for me. I kept seeing his latest novel, Fool Me Once, on the best-seller list. It's a fast-paced, skillfully-plotted murder mystery/thriller that held my attention with its many twists and turns. The protagonist is Maya who has an interesting background as a military helicopter pilot in Iraq, a tour that did not end well for her. She's suffering from PTSD and struggling with the death of her sister several months ago. Now her husband has been murdered. As she sets out to solve these murders, she becomes involved in strange situations that keep the novel moving along.I didn't know what to expect out of Mr. Coben's writing but can see why he has so many fans. He knows how to keep your interest and while I didn't like the ending to Fool Me Once, I would like to read another of his novels.

Another great read by Mr. Coben. When I saw this book advertised around the internet, I was excited and put it on my wish list right away. I could not wait to get a copy to read. The last couple of books I have read by Mr. Coven have been quick, nice reads. This book is no exception. Maya is a good heroine. She is a strong leader, smart, and takes no shit from anyone. In the beginning I did not put the pieces together but when it the puzzle started coming together I was not surprised by the outcome. Yet, I was still in it for the ride. I could not stop reading to see how Maya would figure it all out. In fact, I read the first sixteen chapters in one sitting. I am sad that I finished this book because now I have to wait for the next one.

This thriller was a quick read. For most of it, I was so underwhelmed. Mainly the writing was pedestrian enough that I didn't care what the real story was. The characters were straight from Central Casting, the protagonist (Maya) just seemed to keep running around New Jersey and Philadelphia... I was all ready to give it 3 stars or even less. Finally I got to the main twist, and I will admit it was a good enough twist that I gave it 3.5 stars.

In comparison to other books by Harlan Coben, this one fell a little short of the mark. The storyline and intrigue were interesting but the reveal of it all was just a bit unremarkable; it seemed ridiculously simple for all of the hype and suspense that led up to it. I also found the character of Maya to be extremely unrealistic. She may have been in the war and may be suffering from PTSD but that doesn't mean she needed to be devoid of a personality. At the end of the novel, I was left wondering what was the point of it all. Unfortunately, this novel just missed the mark on way too many levels and I'm going to have to give it a pass. I will continue to read more by this author and I encourage you all to do the same... but maybe skip this one?

This book started out so strong, I expected a good read. Sadly, the novel has an unexplainable weak finish, so disappointed! Sorry I ever started it, there are too many really good books to read and I have not enough time to read everything I want, skip this one, a waste of reading time.

Death seems to follow Iraqi war vet, Maya. First her sister and then her husband killed by the same gun. What a surprising turn of events as she discovers what is behind this. First ending of this kind, which I will not reveal! Suspenseful! Coben at his best!

Maya has left the military but not really by choice. Her sister was murdered while Maya was overseas, and months later, after she is home, she and her husband are accosted on a deserted street and he is shot. There is tension and suspense in this novel, but the author does not play fair with his readers. Maya is trying to solve the murder of her sister, which is still an open case. She is also trying to identify the shooters who accosted her and her husband. It is an entertaining page-turner, but Maya is withholding secrets and it seems like the readers are the ones who are being fooled.

Typical Harlan Coben - fast paced and intriging, with twists you won't see coming. Even more so than usual, if that's possible. Lacking the usual random insertions of humour though - perhaps he reserves that for his Myron Bolitar series.

Maya's husband is killed. Her sister was killed not that long ago. Maya is a veteran who has flashbacks of her last mission. She sees her "dead" husband on her nanny cam and sets out to discover if "someone is screwing with her." She is also secretive about many things. As she uncovers things in her husband's and sister's pasts, I had trouble deciding who were the good guys, and who the bad guys--the sign of a good mystery. The final twists made me wonder if I had missed clues earlier in the novel. Hard to put down.

I love when a new Coben book comes out and this one did not disappoint. The plot kept me glued until the last pages as I had to find out what was happening and who killed Maya's husband, Joe. Coben's excellent writing forces you to hate these characters and there are some nasty ones. The twists and turns keep coming as Coben shows you that you have no clue what is going on. In the end, you finally realize that all the clues were there and you just failed to put them together. I am now looking forward to the new Myron book which is soon to be released and getting back on that roller coaster which Coben allows us to ride each time we read one of his novels.

I like Harlan Coben for a quick thriller/mystery, I wasn't disappointed. good plot, twists, characters, with some humor and current pop culture thrown in. We were just by the boathouse (or a boat house in Central Park a few weeks back, so that's where I envisioned some of the scenes happening. I did not anticipate the final outcome, though.

FOOL ME ONCE was an amazing thriller! I enjoyed it very much. It’s about a young widow named Maya whose husband was murdered – only to see him pop up on her nanny cam a few weeks later. Maya is a brave and tough woman, dealing with PTSD (she’s a former special ops pilot) and faced with raising her young daughter alone. With the stress of everything, can she really believe her eyes? The mystery that Maya gets pulled into was so intriguing and complex. She encounters many twists in her search for the truth, and the ending was a shock! An emotional one, too. I’m not going to say anymore about what happens, because I don’t want to spoil the surprises for you. This is the first book by Harlan Coben I’ve read, and I can’t wait to read more.Disclosure: I received a copy of this book through Penguin’s First to Read Program in exchange for an honest review.

I'm pretty much a die hard Coben fan so it's difficult for me to find fault with any of his books. I gave this one 5 stars because I really did enjoy the story line and working out the "who done it"...and believe me there as plenty to work out. The biggest problem I had was with the main character...Maya, a very troubled Iraqi helicopter pilot with a 2 year old daughter and a dead husband...or is he? That's one of the things that you have to work out. Maya just doesn't make you feel much empathy for her... she doesn't feel real and she often behaves in ways that aren't credible. In spite of that It's a fast paced story and a good standalone novel.
