About this audiobook
#1 New York Times bestselling author J. R. Ward delivers the second novel in her Bourbon Kings series-a sweeping saga of a Southern dynasty struggling to maintain a façade of privilege and prosperity, while secrets and indiscretions threaten its very foundation…
In Charlemont, Kentucky, the Bradford family is the crème de la crème of high society--just like their exclusive brand of bourbon. And their complicated lives and vast estate are run by a discrete staff who inevitably become embroiled in their affairs. This is especially true now, when the apparent suicide of the family patriarch is starting to look more and more like murder…
No one is above suspicion--especially the eldest Bradford son, Edward. The bad blood between him and his father is known far and wide, and he is aware that he could be named a suspect. As the investigation into the death intensifies, he keeps himself busy at the bottom of a bottle--as well as with his former horse trainer's daughter. Meanwhile, the family's financial future lies in the perfectly manicured hands of a business rival, a woman who wants Edward all to herself.
Everything has consequences; everybody has secrets. And few can be trusted. Then, at the very brink of the family's demise, someone thought lost to them forever returns to the fold. Maxwell Bradford has come home. But is he a savior...or the worst of all the sinners?

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5It's the characters I like in this series. And the narrator does them well - although I swear the narrator for this second book was different than the narrator for the first book. The characters are what make the story for me. The actual story - the intrigue, the lies, the romance, that's all secondary. I expected more of Maxwell after reading the summary but his story didn't seem to beginning all the much. I assume that will be coming in the next installment. Which I will be waiting for, like I wait for all of J. R. Ward's book these days. :)
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5The Angels' Shareby J.R. Ward#2 The Bourbon KingsAudio narrated by Alexander CendeseDisappointing continuation of the saga surrounding the wealthy Baldwine family. Other than a couple tearjerker moments, this was a drawn out bit of not much. The various family members are starting to show some pluck and even some of their humanity as they face the imminent demise of their reputation and wealth; some of the most stubborn members of the family finally being honest about their feelings, even if their efforts come too late. As always, Ward does a great job of creating interesting characters; however, her downfall is her penchant for constantly referring to high-end brands and labels, whether it is cars, liquor, jewelry, artwork, or clothing. I have a hard time believing that people honestly look at their watch and immediately think of it as their "Piaget Polo 7131 c 701". In saying all this, however, I do want to continue on to the next book because of a nebulous ending and because I do still like these characters (dang it) and want to see how they pull out of the mess their father left for them before his death.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Excellent story I hope there's a third and final book.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I am a big fan of J R Ward. This series is really a page turner. It leaves you begging for more.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/52.5 stars. The narration of the female characters in the book left a lot to be desired.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I don't know what it is about this family. I usually do not like soap operas, but I really like this series. Most everyone is wealthy or used to be or is on their way up. There are scandals, deaths, affairs and all the major causes of drama. I like most of the characters despite most of their spoiled upbringing and some bad behavior. It ends in a cliffy. I'm really into it and can't wait for the next installment.
