About this audiobook

As seen in The Wall Street Journal--from free play to cozy together time, discover the parenting secrets of the happiest people in the world

What makes Denmark the happiest country in the world--and how do Danish parents raise happy, confident, successful kids, year after year? This upbeat and practical book presents six essential principles, which spell out P-A-R-E-N-T:

Play is essential for development and well-being.
Authenticity fosters trust and an "inner compass."
Reframing helps kids cope with setbacks and look on the bright side.
Empathy allows us to act with kindness toward others.
No ultimatums means no power struggles, lines in the sand, or resentment.
Togetherness is a way to celebrate family time, on special occasions and every day. The Danes call this hygge--and it's a fun, cozy way to foster closeness. Preparing meals together, playing favorite games, and sharing other family traditions are all hygge. (Cell phones, bickering, and complaining are not!)

With illuminating examples and simple yet powerful advice, The Danish Way of Parenting will help parents from all walks of life raise the happiest, most well-adjusted kids in the world.

I grew up learning more negative parenting habits than good ones, but this book has encouraged and taught me a better way and to stop saying "I'm a terrible parent." and instead say "I have a lot to learn, but I can learn it."

I enjoyed the simple, yet profound concept of a better style of parenting. The positive talk and togetherness can be implemented into any family. I’m inspired to make changes to move towards the Danish way!

It was a good book. There were more example and the dwelling upon American way than Expected based on the title of the book however. None the less, there are fantastic tidbits of information regarding the Danish way of parenting, not the least of which is the fantastic list of characteristics comprising the Danish way that finishes the book. Great information.

At first, it felt more like fluff than substance. But the further in I got, the more genuinely helpful and informative became the content. Enjoyable and instructive.

Great book, well written. I actually haven’t read anything about the “danish way” of raising children at all, everyone surely has heard of raising their kids with the “tiger mom” method or “the French way” but Danish? No. This book surely has opened my eyes and my heart into think and believing that as a parent, I could be kinder, I can become more of an actual parent and not as this adult who bosses kids around (which is how I feel half the time I’m with my kids), gives them orders and make them do what I think is what they should be doing. This doesn’t changes my ways overnight, it will take a lot of time surely to implement or apply most of what is written in this book, but to have known many ways of dealing with kids, the Danish way, makes me a little bit more confident that many of the things I am confronted as a mother will not always have to end up in tears and yelling on their part or mine.
