About this audiobook

The Hunger Games meets horror in this unforgettable thriller where only one thing is certain... you will be Called.

Thousands of years ago, humans banished the Sidhe fairy race to another dimension. The beautiful, terrible Sidhe have stewed in a land of horrors ever since, plotting their revenge... and now their day has come.

Fourteen year-old Nessa lives in a world where every teen will be "Called." It could come in the middle of the day, it could come deep in the night. But one instant she will be here, and the next she will wake up naked and alone in the Sidhe land. She will be spotted, hunted down, and brutally murdered. And she will be sent back in pieces by the Sidhe to the human world... unless she joins the rare few who survive for 24 hours and escape unscathed.

Nessa trains with her friends at an academy designed to maximize her chances at survival. But as the days tick by and her classmates go one by one, the threat of her Call lurks ever closer... and with it the threat of an even more insidious danger closer to home.

Peadar O'Guilin

Peadar O’Guilin was inspired to write The Grey Land books by the mystical beauty of northwest Ireland where he spent his early childhood. For many years, Peadar developed both a fascination and deep love for mythology and Irish legends. He describes THE CALL as ‘my mashup of the darker parts of Irish mythology and classic survival stories.’ The SÍdhe from The Grey Land books are the original 'peopleofthe mounds’ whom the Irish believed in for centuries. Peadar is in no doubt that when a race of people is expelled from their homeland, they will soon be looking to exact a bloody revenge . . .

I absolutely loved it!! I was so excited to start the sequel to see what happens next only to find out that I have to wait until 04/23/19 to start listening to it. I am so upset!! apparently my "unlimited" membership is not really unlimited!!

This book was stunning. A truly original and gruesome tale, yet full of emotion, hope, and love. I knew nothing about this book before I listened to it just based off the premise. Very glad I did.

I really enjoyed this irish take on a hunger games ish style book. It still felt very original and dripped with irish-ness. The characters were good , story good and I loved the ending. It only looses a point as I'd have liked a bigger part of her running and hiding.

Absolutely amazing; such a haunting read. I guarantee you'll be thinking about it long after you've finished. I know I still do. I've read this duology several times and it always leaves me wanting more. I'm such a fan of imperfect main characters, but still so far from helpless. They are so much easier to relate to and cheer for!

First off i’d like to say, it’s not fair to compare this book to the hunger games. While it does have a promise about children trying to survive, that’s pretty much where the similarities end in my opinion.

I really enjoyed this story, at first i had a harder time getting into it, which might have been due to the heavy accidents and the inability to recognize which character was speaking at some points. But when i got used to that, i was engrossed in this intricate and creative story. The imagery of the Fairylands are so haunting, and creatively grotesque, the joy from the Sheetha (i think that’s how you spell it?) is palpable.

Nessa is all around a great character, she’s clever and intelligent, working twice as hard as everyone else around her to prove that she will survive and great disability rep. She is strong, resourceful, and i really resonated with her. Anto and Megan are great as well, though i will note not too much development occurs character wise for them except Anto. Megan has a smart mouth and while that’s pretty much the depth we go to when exploring her character, that doesn’t mean she wasn’t fun as hell to follow.

Connor is one of the best parts of this story, i enjoy how smart he is and his true gift at leading. While he’s.. connor.. you can’t argue that he isn’t a strong leader and fighter.

Great plot, fun characters and witty dialogue with disgustingly brutal deaths, it’s a sold read.

"The Call" is one of the most gut-wrenching, visceral YA novels I've even encountered outside of the work of Neil Gaiman. There was not a single moment when I was not completely entrenched in the lives, plights, fears, and hopes of all of the characters - even the lesser heard secondary characters. Bravo!
