About this audiobook
Steve Martin's "gifts for subtlety and slyness compare to those of the finest comic novelists" (People)
Shopgirl revealed the novelist in Steve Martin--witty, tender, intelligent, and passionate about his craft. And with the successful publication of The Pleasure of My Company, his reputation as one of our most gifted writers has been confirmed. Here, the reader is introduced to Daniel Pecan Cambridge, whose life is full and rich--but only within the confines of his Santa Monica apartment. Daniel's pathological obsession with street curbs and gas station attendants wearing blue hats may prevent him from venturing into the world outside of his window, but not from pursuing romance in his own peculiar way.
Meticulously constructed, laugh-out-loud funny, and brilliantly inventive, Steve Martin's chronicle of a modern-day neurotic yearning to break free has touched more than 200,000 readers.

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I kept on thinking of the character from the Big Bang theory. The book could have been a little longer. The characters were well developed at the beginning then the story was rushed. This book would make a great movie. Steve Martin did a great job describing the inner thoughts of a person either diagnosed with Autism or an obsessive compulsive disorder. I am not a psychologist.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Story had an unusual protagonist. A 31 year old with an array of compulsive obsessive behaviors which have now lost him his job as a problem solver-programmer, limited his income to a disability check and hand-outs mailed from his grandmother, robbed him of friendships and a lover, confined him to his apartment and a 15 minute walk to Rite-Aide.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I listened to this book. Everything about it is special. His thoughts are unique to him. The music blends in with the story, and I find myself singing the music when I remember something delightful and touching. I am swept away with the pleasure of the relationships and being in his mind. I am filled with a quiet joy.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5In Daniel Cambridge, Steve Martin has created a character whose hurting, lonely, and fearful heart is triumphantly transformed. So much hope in this book.
