Very good selection! This would make a great movie. I really enjoyed the plot twists all over the place.

I agree with a couple other reviewers that LOVED the first 60% and then hated the last 40%! Man was I disappointed. I loveeeee The Retreat and The House Guest by Edwards and this started out so strong. I totally glazed over during the last portion after it’s fully revealed what happened in Romania.
And yeah….the epilogue just reinforced my dislike of one of the MC’s. They were already the more irritating of the 2 and that just pissed me off lol *SIGH* I still enjoyed the plot for the most part, and thought it original.

a previous reviewer says it takes you the whole of the book to discover what happened in Romania.......it doesn't.. roughly half way through is when it is revealed although you get little snippets until it finally comes together.. Its a very good story with twists and turns.. Definitely worth a read...

It was pretty spooky until about 3/4 into the book and then it turned into something else. I got lost and to be honest, I fell asleep on the ending. Have no idea what really happened and kinda don’t even care at this point. Not a total waste of time, but almost.??‍♀️

I normally can find redeeming qualities in books. This one was the first. It DRAGGED! Very repetitive in the story telling and bland on trying to draw you in to the thrill of the story.
67 chapters and it should have been cut to 40 at most.

The book started out really good in the beginning, then kind of dragged. I thought I was going to be disappointed, but the twist ending made up for it.

Okay, well, definitely cross Romania off my list of places to visit...ever! Follow You Home is a creepy story of everything terrible that could happen to you while touring Europe. (I was sorry to read in the afterwords that something similar happened to the author in real life.) It was a twisting, adrenalin-laced, complex horror story that seemed never to end, then somehow, Mark Edwards managed to bring it to a conclusion with a real shocker. I couldn't put this one down. Good job!

Follow You Home by Mark Edwards4&#9733'sFrom The Book: It was supposed to be the trip of a lifetime, a final adventure before settling down. After a perfect start, Daniel and Laura’s travels end abruptly when they are thrown off a night train in the middle of nowhere. To find their way back to civilization, they must hike along the tracks through a forest…a haunting journey that ends in unimaginable terror. Back in London, Daniel and Laura vow never to talk about what they saw that night. But as they try to fit back into their old lives, it becomes clear that their nightmare is just beginning. My Thoughts:Intriguing story to say the least. From the setting...Romania...the reader at first suspects...you guessed it...vampires. I have to say that the author did a great job of building on that idea through the first 200 pages without ever actually saying the word. The plot and the chapters that follow are so cleverly done that you find yourself reading "just one more chapter...and then just one more...well maybe one more..." Yeah...it's that kind of book. I lost a lot of respect for the main characters though after their return to London and things began to effect everyone they came in contact with. I wanted to shake some sense into Laura...good heavens woman sit down and talk this thing out with Daniel. The story began to be a tad too long about 320 pages into the book but the epilogue is worth it all. Never expected this. Really good book and I highly recommend it...but stay OUT OF THE WOODS!

Follow You Home starts out in a very creepy way. A young British couple, Daniel and Laura, are traveling through Europe. They decide to take a train to Romania, meet a creepy couple, have their passports stolen, and then get kicked off the train. Of course, they stumble through the dark Romanian woods, find a dilapidated house, and then something terrible happens that the reader will find out in a series of flashbacks. Once we get back to England, and before the flashbacks, we see a different Danial and Laura. They are now separated and he is living in a dingy apartment. Laura is staying with friends and planning to escape her nightmares by moving to Australia.

Most of the book is told from Daniel’s point of view and the author does a good job of utilizing the unreliable narrator perception. You never quite know if you should trust what the characters are telling you because even they aren’t sure if what they remember actually happened.

I felt like it slowed down quite a bit after a great beginning and lacked suspense. By the time the truth was revealed, I wasn't all that interested anymore. I'm a firm believer that a phone call to international authorities once the couple returned to England could have saved some lives. That being said, for the most part it was an enjoyable read, given it was a free book. I may try another book by this author sometime in the future.

This is the second book I have read by Mark Edwards and I love the fact that they were both so different, but both thrillers that had me on the edge of my seat.

Daniel and Laura are both successful business persons who are off for that trip of a lifetime before settling down and having a family. They are touring throughout Europe and Daniel wants to see the "real" Europe so they head off to Romania. This decision begins a chain of events that ruins their lives. On the train, they meet a Romanian couple who appear to be friends. While they are sleeping, someone steals their money and passports ending up with them being thrown off the train with Alina (the female of the couple they met) in the middle of nowhere. When Alina disappears into the forest they go looking for her and stumble onto an old house. They hear what sounds like Alina screaming and enter the house. Whatever they see inside sends them running for Breva, a nearby town. From there they head home vowing to never speak of what they saw. Fast forward 3 months and we meet a new Daniel and Laura. They have split up, become alcoholics, are not working and have major mental health issues. Daniel starts to see a psychologist and as he begins to tell her bits and pieces of the story, things start to happen. His apartment is broken into, things stolen then returned, someone watching Laura and on it goes. As Daniel begins to tell others about Romania, we find out at the same time about what happened. What did they see? What happened to Alina? Who is watching them? A lot of questions that get answered as the situation is revealed. A great story by one who is becoming one of my favourite authors.

Thank you Netgalley and Thomas & Mercer for the opportunity to read and review this book.

A superb psychological thriller that kept me thinking about the book all the time over the period I was reading it. Set at first in Romania then moves over to the UK. Mark Edwards very cleverly drip feeds the reader with different facts of the story so we are left guessing all the time. Even right up to the end he throws a small issue right on the last page of the book. I shall be reading a lot more of Mark Edwards if this story is representative of his skills.

What a book! When Laura and Daniel are on vacation they never expected to become face to face with horrific events that would follow them home. Terrified and feeling as if they are going crazy they try to come to terms with what happens. However, more sinister things are at work and they may not be able to handle it at all. This was super creepy book that I devoured in 24 hours.

    The End

Not at all what I was expecting. So many twists! I did not like the end - another twist, but it almost ruined the story for me.

Daniel and Laura are going on the trip of a lifetime - travelling through Europe - before returning back to London to settle down and hopefully start a family. But their trip ends suddenly when they are thrown off a night train in the middle of nowhere after their passports and tickets are stolen. To get help they need to hike along the tracks, through a forest. Back in London the couple will not talk to anyone about that night in the forest. And their nightmare isn't over yet.

I am extremely disappointed in this book. I imagined much worse than what really took place. Of course what happened was bad, but other people had it worse. Every time the author would build things up it turned out to be anticlimactic. In the beginning there was too much about their lives back in London, telling everyone "I want to tell you what happened, but I can't" and not enough snippets of their time after being thrown off the train. I hated the epilogue. Really? You can live with that but you couldn't live with what you did in the forest?

This was my first book by this author so did not know what to expect. The story started off somewhat slowly. It took four chapters before it became somewhat interesting to me. But at that point it started building momentum. Daniel and Laura are a British couple on vacation in Romania. One night shortly after they boarded a train they meet another couple – Ion and Alina. Exhausted from their travels, Daniel and Laura sneak into an unoccupied sleeper car. They have barely gotten to sleep when they are awakened by border guards demanding to see their passports. But it appears someone stole their passports while they were sleeping. When Alina attempts to defend British couple the three of them are booted from the train. They now must follow the railroad tracked to the next town. However when Alina goes into the woods and disappears Daniel and Laura are confronted with pure evil.Daniel and Laura return to England vowing to tell no one what happened to them in the woods. Maintaining their secret eats away at them impacting all their interpersonal relationships. And to make matters worse, it seems the evil they encountered in Romania has followed them to England. Edwards expertly leads you down a path waiting for you to formulate an idea of what is happening. The story has touches of the supernatural, mysteries, a tad of romance, international intrigue. The details of their experience are revealed vey slowing, building suspense with each chapter. Just when you think you understand he drops one or two breadcrumbs – on a different path. Each time you think you can reach out and grasp the truth it is yanked away from you. The twists keep you wondering what really did happen in those woods, what could possibly have been so horrific. I found myself being totally surprised and shocked as the real story emerges. If you like thrillers you will probably like this book. You definitely will not want to set it down until you have finished it. And even then, like me, you have to wait a few minutes to absorb the outcome of the book.

Complex plot and characters which sucks you in by skipping forward or back in time as critical points in the story approach. Young lovers Dan and Laura are travelling through Europe, when en route to Romania they befriend a young Romanian couple on a train from Budapest, a fateful decision which changes their lives for ever. Whilst some elements of the plot require a suspension of belief, others send a chill through you as you can only too easily imagine it might happen!

This was another enjoyable book from Mark Edwards, but I do think I preferred the first two books that he has written with Louise Voss in the DI Patrick Lennon series. It is a bit of a dark psychological thriller and it takes you the whole of the book to actually realise what has taken place in Romania in the early part of the book. There were a number of interesting twists especially in the  epilogue! While it was an enjoyable book I feel it just lacked something, but I can't quite put my finger on what, hence only giving it 3.5 Stars. Possibly it is the overreaction (as it seemed) to what had happened in Romania, which led to me not fully caring for the characters. It is definitely a don't go into the woods story.

his was one creepy, creepy read. What starts as the perfect European trip for Laura and Daniel, become derailed in Romania after having their passports and credit cards stolen, they are thrown off the train by the Romanian police. Thrown off with them is Aline, a young Romanian woman they met on the train, traveling with her friend Ion. Stuck in the middle of nowhere, with no papers, Aline goes missing in the woods after entering them to empty her bladder in privacy. Trying to find Aline they come upon a house in the woods, and what they see in this house will cause them to flee and vow to never speak of the atrocities within. For the first half of the book the reader has no idea what Laura and Daniel saw. Strange things start happening to them, and I was thinking horror book, maybe vampires, werewolves. This turns into a wild ride as Laura and Daniel, must confront the evil that followed them home. Never imagines all this entailed nor what length someone will go to keep these things secret. What they saw is key but not the only thing that followed them home. A good, suspense filled story. Daniel is a very likable character and as a reader I didn't want anything bad to happen to him. Strange and creepy and I will make sure I am not alone if I go into the woods.ARC from NetGalley.

Mark Edwards really knows how to build up the suspense. The first part of the book was all about how Daniel and Laura avoided telling their story and the consequences of that decision. In the back of my mind I knew that I would eventually learn what happened in Romania but I was dying to get there. Once that part of the story is revealed you just can't get over the creep factor. It's easy to imagine that there are terrors like this happening around the world right now. It kind of makes you think twice about traveling abroad. What follows next is how Laura and Daniel unravel and the slow realization that someone followed them home. Again it's super creepy. Towards the end of the story things get really unbelievable and that's the reason I couldn't rate this any higher than 3 stars. I just couldn't get past how everything is tied up. Too over the top cheesy. One little pet peeve, Edwards writes that Laura has an iPad and not even 2 pages later reveals that Laura doesn't use Apple products because she doesn't like how Apple treats their workers in China. How didn't an editor or early reader catch this? I recommend this for anyone who loves a good suspense thriller.

A special thank you to Thomas & Mercer and NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.Mark Edwards, one of my “go-to” authors for some of the most intense and engaging psychological thrillers; however, with FOLLOW YOU HOME, he turns up the complexity and intensity ten-fold, (like, on steroids) with a Stephen King-like, brilliantly plotted, spine-tingling, and haunting atmosphere of evil, lies, and horror. An innocent European backpack adventure, a night train ride, mysterious strangers, a haunting forest, and a strange house; meets evil, greed, violence, corruption, and revenge. Readers will not be able to put this one down—I read in one sitting! Note to self . . . Never sleep on a train. Never enter a mysterious house in the forest. Check backpack often.Daniel and Laura, a successful couple in their early thirties, introduced by mutual friend, Jake a musician—with a bright future. Daniel a tech developer of a new app for Skittle and Laura works in marketing for a non-profit. Her biological clock is ticking, with plans to marry and start a family soon. Laura’s best friend Erin is pregnant, so she has baby on the brain for the near future. She has not had an easy childhood; however, hopes she will be a better parent. However, before they dive into their adult responsibilities, as many of us have done---Take the time while young to travel, see the world, and backpack around Europe. Enjoying their grand tour to Brussels, France, Spain, Ibiza, Italy (Rome and the Amalfi coast), Greece, and Croatia and Hungary for two glorious months of leisurely fun and sun. After Romania, they planned to head north again to Russia, Germany, and then Scandinavia and to end up on Daniel’s thirty-fifth birthday in Stockholm, and then they would fly home back to London, to get married and start their family. The overnight train to Sighisoara due to leave Budapest at eleven was running late, and they were tired and exhausted from their travels. Instead of the cozy, private sleeper compartment accommodation, Daniel was trying to save money, staying on a budget; by purchasing seats in the standard accommodation section (half the price). Soon thereafter, their happy, and enjoyable trip turns into a nightmare. (“nightmare” is actually too lame a word to use to describe this bloody detour trip to hell and back). Straight away, they meet another Eastern European couple on the train from Romania (Ion and Alina). Laura is tired, so she is urged to take a quick nap and they will keep a look out to let them know before the guard come aboard to check tickets and passports. they both fall asleep. When they are awakened from a deep sleep by the guards, they discover their passports, tickets, and money have been stolen. When Alina tries to translate, on their behalf, the three of them are thrown off the train in the middle of the night in the middle of nowhere. When Alina steps into the forest to use the restroom in private, and does not return, the couple desperately seek to find her, so they can get to the next town by daybreak. While in search for her, they stumble upon a haunted house in the middle of the forest, with a baby crying. They enter. It is so shocking, they do not want to speak about it ever again. Evil follows them home and everywhere they turn. When they barely escape, it forever changes the course of their lives. Their nightmare has just begun and keeps on ticking for an adrenaline hide continuous ride. (Gives new meaning to "being in the wrong place at the wrong time"). Their life begins to crumble piece by piece with mind boggling events, as Daniel fights to uncover the truth. However, there is more than one plot playing out here, much larger than you can imagine. They never knew what they stepped into which has the power to destroy their lives and endanger everyone around them. From past Hungary-Romania 2013, to present London, 2014 and flashes back and forth to the time surrounding the journey in the forest, you definitely will not fall asleep reading this one. One obstacle after another with many schemes playing out at the same time. There is no way to adequately describe the innovation, creativity, and complexity of FOLLOW YOU HOME with layer upon layer of twists and turns and surprises lurking around every corner, even to the end. Edwards keeps readers guessing as to what went down in this house. He brilliantly has crafted a suspense thriller which continues to build throughout, and never slows down for a breath. You cannot stop reading, as he holds your attention from the time they exit the train to the end, in this fast-paced riveting dark psychological suspense. Would make a great film, crossing many genres from contemporary horror, supernatural, drama, ghosts, crime, mystery, suspense, psychological and thriller.FOLLOW YOU HOME has been added to my Top 30 Booklist for 2015! Edwards is at the “top of his game” – Brilliantly written and wow, what character development (expect more than one villain here). If you enjoy scary things that go bump in the night…. This one is for you. My heart is still pounding. Have also pre-ordered the audio, as enjoy listening after reading, to get the full experience!Notes: Loved Edward the PI, my hero and look forward to reading the short story featuring private detective Edward Rooney from Follow You Home. I also enjoyed the inspiration behind the book. Mark, thanks for sharing as throughout the entire book, I was dying to tweet you to inquire. What a journey! If you have not read Mark Edwards, previously, highly recommend all his back list for a ride of your life. He has a talent for getting into the minds of his characters.
