About this audiobook
Her beauty was a blessing…and a dangerous burden…
As a Maid of Honor at the Court of King Henry VIII, beautiful Alice Petherton receives her share of admirers. But when the powerful, philandering Sir Richard Rich attempts to seduce her, she knows she cannot thwart his advances for long. She turns to the most powerful man in England for protection: the King himself.
As beautiful as she is intelligent, Alice easily captures the King’s interest. He takes her to bed on the day of his son Edward’s birth. But the King is capricious, and he casts out Alice when Queen Jane dies. Although Alice knows well the risk of becoming the King’s wife, it isn’t long before she charms her way back into Court and the King’s heart. The challenge is remaining his favorite while avoiding the dangers of becoming his next bride.
Reveling in her newfound power, Alice soon forgets that enemies lurk behind every corner at court…and there are some who are eagerly plotting her fall…

- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5This has got to be the worst voice actor on earth. Every single sentence is read with the exact same rhythm, it is bizarre and annoying to the point that I can’t continue with the book.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This book was keeping me interested thru the entire hours .
I do recommend it .great read - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5It's never a good thing to be a pretty maid in a court of lecherous nobles and an even more lecherous king. Alice Petherton is one of Queen Jane Seymour's Maids of Honor who winds up being pursued by Sir Richard Rich, Lord Thomas Cromwell's servant. This doesn't go over so well with Queen Jane's favorite Maid of Honor as she is his current plaything. To protect herself she catches the eye of Henry VIII and winds up his favorite, rather like walking on a tightrope of eggshells. When a child dies at the Tower of London because Henry VIII ordered his lions released he is would have the assistant beastkeeper executed for following his orders. Alice decides to confront the King for this injustice which doesn't make him happy. Out of favor, out of the palace, and into London to live at Offal Pudding Lane. The why is this happening to me was a bit annoying but it did hold my interest. What will become of her? Read and find out
