A library in a working lighthouse, an unpleasant murder victim, and great characters...this is a great cozy mystery. This is a fun read, with a good mystery that kept me guessing to the end. I already plan to read the first in this series!

A storm is approaching the Outer Banks and our heroine, librarian Lucy Richardson, is watching out of a window in the lighthouse in which she lives and works. When she sees what looks like a boat that’s floundering, she calls 911. A Coast Guard ship arrives in time to save the boaters. Turns out that the boat’s captain is Will Williamson and his much-younger lady friend Marlene. Soon, Williamson is dead and the police believe their top suspect is Stephanie Stanton, a lawyer from Raleigh who’s taken leave to care for her mother Pat, who was injured in an accident. But Lucy believes there are plenty of other suspects the police are overlooking – Williamson was NOT a nice man. Although he spent much of his life working on oil rigs in Alaska, his home is the Outer Banks and he is not remembered fondly if he’s remembered at all.Reading up a Storm if a sweet, little mystery – just what readers have come to expect in this series. It has a terrific setting, a great cast of characters and adequate if not spectacular writing. The plot is “cozy-believable” and the romance is parceled out so as not to overwhelm the mystery elements. All-in-all, a fun read.

I am thoroughly enjoying this series! It has all of the magical qualities that make cozy mysteries so endearing and particularly to this former librarian who loves the beach and the pitter patter of furry cat paws, unique "cat-speak," and comforting purrs. To discover a library in a lighthouse, a "studio" apartment for the assistant librarian Lucy in the lighthouse too, and complete with a reading nook with bench seat and ocean view at the window. Add to this picturesque setting a handsome cat named "Charles" to prowl the library and provide purrs and company during apartment time. Simply exquisite and all the more special with the other wonderful supporting cast of characters of library personnel and Outer Banks locals that are also an integral part of the lighthouse library and daily life.

Lucy is my grown up "Nancy Drew" and I love her 'investigations' as much as I loved the "Nancy Drew" series as a fourth grader reader.

Lucy Richardson, Bodie Island's librarian and sometimes sleuth, sees some unusual lights minutes before seeing a boat in distress. She calls the Coast Guard who rescues the couple. However, the man turns up dead the next day. Stephanie, a Raleigh attorney, is on a leave of absence to care for her invalid mother. The deceased turns out to be Stephanie's father. As Lucy and the local law enforcement investigate, plenty of motives and suspects turn up, even though the man has resided elsewhere for a long time. I really enjoyed the Outer Banks atmosphere on this one. I want to go back and read earlier installments and the next one too. Libraries, lighthouses, cats, and North Carolina -- what's not to like about this combination?

Digital audiobook narrated by Elise ArsenaultThis is book three in the Lighthouse Library Mystery series, starring Lucy Richardson, chief librarian at the Bodie Island Lighthouse Library in North Carolina’s Outer Banks. Shortly after a major storm, a man is found dead in his wrecked boat. Lucy had seen the craft floundering during the storm, but she’d also seen mysterious lights on shore, seemingly guiding the boat onto dangerous shoals. Was this an accident? Or was it murder?I read this out of order, because book # 4 arrived before book # 3 at the library. The mysteries are fast and fun, with some colorful supporting characters added into the mix. And, while I’m not a cat person, I do love Charles Dickens, Lucy’s Himalayan.Elise Arsenault does an adequate job of reading the audiobooks. Although, the voices she uses for the male characters are really bad. Still, she sets a good pace and has diction clear enough to be understood even when listening at double speed.

I've really enjoyed this series and unfortunately I'm all caught up. I hope the next book will be released soon, as I need to fantasize some more about sitting at the top of a lighthouse filled with books reading. Decent mystery, the annoying characters are getting more humorous as the series continues and the nice ones are becoming even nicer.

In this third installment of the Lighthouse Library series, Lucy is watching a storm from her fourth floor apartment in the lighthouse when she sees a light on the water, as well as lights on the shore. But she knows there is no safe harbor where the boat is headed. She calls for help, and the occupants of the boat are rescued. Thus begins a rather intricate and delightful mystery, one in which secrets are divulged, Lucy comes to a realization about her life, and her very life is threatened. The characters in the series continue to grow and develop, and even the secondary characters add much interest to the story. These tales just keep getting better.

I really enjoyed the first two books in this series so was looking forward to this one. I was a bit disappointed unfortunately. I found the story a bit juvenile, especially Lucy's sudden epiphanies such as when she realized who the murderer was (who, I have to say, I had determined about 1/3 of the way through the book), and her sudden realization that she was "in love with the mayor of Nags Head". No lead up, no defining moment in either case really. I'm disappointed that the series isn't measuring up to the expectations I had after reading the first two books. I still love the setting though. The Outer Banks sound like a place I'd love to visit someday.
