      This is the third installment in the Country Club Murder series set in 1974 Kansas City, Missouri.The protagonist, Ellison Russell, widowed and “on the cusp of 40”, is smart and funny; and the electricity between her and Homicide Detective Anarchy Jones could run the lights in my house for a year.

      Clouds In My CoffeeByJulie MulhernWhat it's all about...This series takes place in Kansas City in the 70’s. The 70’s references are delightful. The characters in this book are always having lunch or dinner at the “club”. Ellison is the main event in these books. In this book she has to deal with an aunt with a secret, a sister with an estranged husband and a mother who is always upset with her. Oh...and...in this book someone is trying to actually murder Ellison...or is Ellison just in the way of the intended victim? Why I wanted to read it...I have fallen in love with this series and its characters and their unique situations. What made me truly enjoy this book...I love the humor that the author is able to put into these situations. The characters are interesting and even complex with their issues. Ellison’s interactions with her mother are so key to their relationship and key to this book. Her mother is a force to be reckoned with. The issues of her family are abundant in this book...Ellison’s mother’s gala, her sister’s marital issues and her aunt’s “unspeakable” issue...all seem to fall on Ellison’s doorstep...literally. Why you should read it, too...Readers who love a unique and clever cozy mystery will thoroughly enjoy this book and this series.I received an advance reader’s Kindle ebook from the publisher and NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.

      Clouds in my Coffee is the third Country Club Murders book by Julie Mulhern, and I believe it is the best one yet. Ellison Russell is a recently widowed mother, who found out her husband was not only cheating on her, but was rather kinky at that. She is a member of the County Club set and does not need to worry about money at all. She seems to stumble onto or run over dead bodies and has enough accidents that her mother is on speed dial at the hospital. This addition to the series does not so much have her stumbling onto dead bodies as it does having her avoid becoming a victim herself. After almost being killed several times (4 times in this book) and having a woman die at her table at her mother's gala, Ellison is put under police protection.This book introduces another family member, Aunt Sis, and lets us get to know her sister Marjorie a lot better. As they both end up as houseguests at Ellison's place. Her aunt can be as haughty as her mother, but she is often described in the story as an aging hippie. She wears her hair in a greying ponytail and caftans are her formal wear. Marjorie is involved in a midlife crisis and there is another man involved in her life. Relationships get more complicated, family secrets come to light, and the mystery feels more dangerous because it hits very close to home. Of course we can not forget about the romance, or near romance in the story. Ellison is being pursued by two very eligible bachelors. Anarchy Jones the detective and Hunter Tafft the well connected lawyer. Her mother is pushing Hunter, as he is part of their social circle, but it seems Aunt Sis is rather fond of Anarchy. Unfortunately due to her trust issues with men, Ellison is not ready for a relationship with either man, but it does not stop her kisses and the tingling she gets from both of them. This is a fun part of the story that I look forward to in each book. It is a touch decision and each man offers different things to Ellison.Ellison is a great character. She is tough, strong, independent, loyal, loving and supportive to her family and the kind of person I would love to have as a friend. I love the setting in the 70s. I lived it and this hits so true, it also adds a different touch to this cozy series. The stories are fun, the family is quirky, the Country Club set is snobby and I wish that I was there! A great series that I would recommend to cozy mystery readers as well as anyone who loved the the 70s. The publisher generously provided me with a copy of this book via Netgalley.

      I really enjoyed the family dynamics/dysfunction as not one, but two sisters, come home to Kansas City. Maybe Ellison and her mother have more in common than they think, with free wheeling Aunt Sis and an unhappily married Marjorie arriving in town just in time for Frances' big charity event. Of course, after a bust falls close to Ellison and someone else winds up dead later, the mystery begins. Even with multiple storylines I was able to keep up with the story and the various motives at play. The nods to the 70's setting and Ellison's straightforwardness make this a fun grown up sort of cozy mystery. I love this series and can't wait for number 4.

      In the hundreds I’ve read, I can’t remember one single murder mystery that had me laughing uncontrollably in the first chapter. That is until I began Clouds in My Coffee. It’s going to be a challenge for Mulhern to top this one, although we never did learn what happened to either Vic or the mouse. But that was just the tip of the iceberg for what was coming. The handsome and oh-so-sexy Detective Jones is back once again, attempting to protect Ellison from (most of all) herself. This time it’s the whole dysfunctional family who is involved with, of course, Ellison in the center. Our author keeps her time spans short, which means we won’t get to the end of the 1970s any time soon and that’s just fine with me. Eager for the next one? More like hungry with a sense of urgency. Waiting for book 4 will be painful.

      Ellison Russell has been having a rough few months - finding dead bodies including her husband, she feels a bit put upon when her mother insists that she attend the fundraiser and it doesn't get better when she is nearly killed by a falling statue.Add in unwanted houseguests (her quirky aunt and selfish sister) and Ellison has her hands full with even more near death encounters. Detective Jones even takes up residence to protect her since apparently she has become a murderer's target. I absolutely love this series - the characters are so well thought out, the mysteries enthralling and the setting of the 70's takes me back to my youth.

      This book has cemented my love for this series. In fact, this is now my favorite series from Henery Press. I have consistently liked the books in this series (minus a few annoying characters) and can't seem to read them fast enough.Ellison is back and once again is in danger when someone seems bound and determined to kill her. That is definitely not something new to her. When she isn't narrowly avoiding being killed she also has to deal with more family drama as her Aunt Sis and her sister Marjorie come to town. Both of them have their own ulterior motives for coming back to town and Ellison is left to deal with them.One of the things that I have loved most about this series is Ellison's sense of humor. It was not lacking in this installment. I always end up laughing like a mad woman while reading this series.I really enjoyed getting to read about Ellison's family drama and the big family secret that is revealed in this one. Ellison's sister Marjorie was so annoying in this book and treated Ellison horribly so I was a teensy bit pleased at what happened with her at the club (does that make me a horrible person?). I loved that Aunt Sis came to town and brought a whole load off family drama and secrets with her. I loved getting to see Ellison's mom put in her place by Aunt Sis because she definitely deserved it at times. I hope to see more of Aunt Sis.I will be eagerly awaiting the next installment of this series. This was my favorite one yet and I cannot wait to see what happens next.
