About this audiobook

One of the most vicious archangels in the world has disappeared. No one knows if Lijuan is dead or has chosen to sleep the long sleep of an immortal. But with her lands falling into chaos under a rising tide of vampiric bloodlust, a mysterious and ancient order of angels known as the Luminata calls the entire Cadre together to discuss the fate of her territory.

Accompanying her archangelic lover Raphael to the Luminata compound, guild hunter-turned-angel Elena senses that all is not as it seems. Secrets echo from within the stone walls of the compound, and the deeper Elena goes, the uglier the darkness. But neither Raphael nor Elena is ready for the brutal truths hidden within-truths that will change everything Elena thinks she knows about who she is . . .

Nothing will ever be the same again.

Nalini why do you always write that Angels have blue eyes what’s wrong with brown. And I am sure being a brown person there are Angels with brown even midnight skin. How come these powerful beings are so fleshy and weak. Btw what’s wrong with a strong woman with beautiful midnight skin naturally curly hair not kinky, and a warrior like Elena. Not everyone is broken inside you know, imperfect but not broken and do not cry, and feel the way Rafael feels about suicide. I am sorry but my opinion is that when someone kills them self if they have the means to seek and get help then in my opinion they are cowards. Those girls in Africa, who have been through hell on earth yet never takes their lives. But these White American girls, so quick to be labeled I am suffering from depression and become so easily addicted to substances, then kill themselves even though they have the means to seek n get help. I am now 53 years old Jamaican Female of Indian father from Morocco n German mother with a lot of mixture in my DNA. I have been thru tribulations, trials of living in America hated because of my skin color afraid of many yet I never not once drank alcohol never smoked never tried or even did drugs raised 2 well adjusted daughters as a divorcee. NEVER ONCE EVEN CONSIDERED TAKING MY LIFE.

Archangel’s Heart is another fantastic addition to the series and where we see more growth to Raphael and Elena’s relationship. This book shows that there has been some time between Archangel’s Enigma and this one. Its been a year or so since Lijuan disappeared after being hurt by Raphael as he saved Alexander’s life and now they have an alliance of sorts. But then with Lijuan disappearing and rumors of the vampires having a blood lust, they know that something must be done with her territory. Then the whole Archangel Cadre has been called to the Luminata to discuss what will happen to her territory. The Luminata is a sect of the angels, that are very similar to a monastery order, all males, that come to find spiritual peace and find the beyond. But having all the archangel’s together is never a good idea so Elena expects something more going on. But what Elena doesn’t expect is to find clues of something underhanded going on in the sect of brothers and something that has to do with her grandmother. And when they find clues and a nearby town in fear of them as angels, Elena knows something very WRONG is going on and she is determined to find out what is going on. There is a mystery that Elena is trying to solve and with Raphael’s help, they get to the bottom of it which will bring some surprises in for the reader that you don’t expect and will change Elena’s world forever. -Remember when I was terrified of you? -You were never terrified of me – Ha! Are you kidding? I was scared out of my skin, but I still thought you were hot. I’m obviously a little deranged. Raphael didn’t laugh.- I’m glad you got over the terror- he said quietly- The idea of eternity without you is my personal vision of hell. -Raphael- Elena touched her fingers to his jaw- This is my heaven. You are my heaven.Man….I swear that this author can do no wrong and this book was simply a ride of my life and I didn’t ever want to get off of it. This might be a 13 hour audiobook but I listened to it in one day, that is how GOOD this story was. I always love the books where we see more depth to Raphael and Elena’s relationship and this book just adds to that. I love how much these two give to one another. Their relationship is definitely one to envy and I adore their story so much. I love how much they just “get” each other in perfect ways even though neither of them are perfect but what I do admire in their relationship is how true they are to themselves and never lie to each other or keep secrets, they are fully open in each other. I love that Raphael loves the strength and courage in Elena and adores her vulnerabilities and never ever puts her down, always trying to raise her up. Elena on the other side is always there for Raphael, trying to keep him on the right path and not letting him get too full of himself with his power changes. Their story is so EPIC and so packed with emotion. I love the intimacy we get to see in this pairing and with each book we get a little bit more depth in their in-depth relationship. In this book, we see how Elena has Raphael’s back, always ready to go on the offensive and defense if she is needed. But Raphael knows how important family is to Elena, and is on her side in discovering the truth behind her grandmother having a presence here among the Illuminati who are supposed to take a vow of celibacy. Never lose your heart, Elena. No matter if the world tells you it makes you weak. Immortals have so much power. It is good to have a weaknessView Spoiler »I have to say after seeing what really happens in the end here, I was so full of happiness, I had so many tears shed for Elena who found something so priceless and this is where we see how family is so important and love seeing Elena find justice and discover that evil exists in places we least expect. Love how Elena finds some more peace and justice and I can’t wait to see what happens next in their fight again Lijuan. This complex world that Singh has created with Raphael and Elena with captivating its reader it its unique depths, mysteries that become unfolded and an epic love tale to tug at your heartstrings and a pairing this reader will never forget!! But the one thing she no longer had any question about was that they were an impregnable unit. The world might attempt to tear them apart, but the only way it would ever succeed would be through death.

With the latest book set a few years after the previous one the Angels have had a bit of a lull waiting for the other shoe to fall with the Cascade seeming to be on pause. With not a peep out of Lijuan a previously undiscussed group of angels call a meeting of the Archangels to decide what to do since having eleven awake Archangels is never a good thing for the world. Is Lijuan Sleeping or dead? With her territory starting to have groups of vampires in rebellion it is past time to find out. The Luminata is a group of male angels that set themselves apart from most of the world as they try to discover an angel version of enlightenment. Turns out their citadel is in the region that Elena’s mysterious grandmother is from. And housed with these angels are examples of the world’s finest art from both angels and mortals.

Of course not everything is as it appears there but Elena does find some allies while she is there trying to find clues to her background. There is progress on movement with the Archangels and the Cascade but there are secrets still to be found out about Michaela. A good story and it moved the overall series story arc along. Now to sit and wait for the next book to come out.

Even as I occassionally find myself tired of constantly hearing about Raphael and Elena's love for each other (no doubt due in some part to self-pity), this is how you keep a reader hooked. In so many other series, I find myself bored reading about the original/settled couple, and prefer the books with new HEAs. This series is the exception - I loved this book and could not put it down! Read it in one day! I know neither of them are on deck next, but I am dying for Illium and/or Aodhan's book(s)!!!

    Archangel's Heart
    4 Stars

When Lijuan, the Archangel of China, disappears and her lands begin falling into chaos, the Cadre is summoned by the Luminata - a mysterious sect of angels tasked with maintaining order amongst the Archangels. Raphael along with his consort, Elena, travel to the Luminata compound in Morocco where nothing is as it seems, and long buried secrets emerge into the light.

Although this installment in the Guild Hunter series is enjoyable overall, especially in terms of the character development, it does have a filler feel to it as a great deal of page time is spent recapping prior events and constructing the malevolent atmosphere surrounding the Luminata.

There is very little progression in the ongoing Lijuan story arc and the Luminata plot is somewhat anti-climactic mainly due to the fact that the villain never constitutes any real threat to Raphael or Elena. Moreover, the final twist, i.e., that Elena's grandparents are alive is obvious from the start.

That said, there are several excellent elements including the backstory on Marguerite Deveraux, the details concerning Aodahn's ordeal, the insights into the dynamics between the members of the Cadre, and the intensity of Elena and Raphael's romance.

All in all, not one of the best books in the series, but entertaining nonetheless. Looking forward to finding out who the next book will focus on. My money is on Aodahn, and although many readers are hoping for an m/m pairing with Illium, I would prefer m/f simply because I want them each to get their own book :0)

Archangel’s Heart by Nalini SinghBook #9: Guild Hunter SeriesSource: PurchaseMy Rating: 2/5 starsMy Review: **SPOILERY AND RANTY**Let me begin by saying, even I’m surprised at my rating for this book. Historically, I have not just loved this series, but been wrapped up, slutty obsessed with this series. Tragically, that all went out the window with this read . . . .I generally don’t get up in arms about the price of books because I love books and am willing to pay for the books I want to read. With the advent of ebooks, books have gotten far less expensive except for those that come from the big publishing houses. There are a few authors and series with big publishing houses I am willing to pay the higher prices for every time, and Nalini Singh’s Guild Hunter series is one of those. I have never been upset by the price because I have always gotten a quality read. This time, however I got nothing of the sort and that left me quite angry. What Archangel’s Heart amounts to is, at best, a novella length read of new information spread across 350+ pages. I have never had to force myself to read the books in this series and I found myself having to do so with this read. It took me a week to get through this book when I generally must force myself to put the book down and sleep. There is just so much repetition in this book where Elena and Raphael are concerned and I was expecting something so very different. Oh sure, the threat to the power couple is new to this book, but it mostly revolves around each reminding the other of how much they love one another and how each would be lost if the other were hurt or died. At some point, that just gets old and I want to see real evolution in the characters and the overall series plot, not just repetition of an old theme. Furthermore, the whole Elena’s past resurfacing is played out and repetitive as well. Again, there is some new information that comes out in this read, but not so much that it couldn’t have been covered in a between the major books novella. So, was there anything about this book I did like? Yes! There are some plusses to this read, but not enough or in great enough quantity to balance out the repetition. As with so many readers, I was expecting this read to be either Aodhan and/or Illium’s story. Like Illium, Aodhan has long been dangled before readers, and while his role was the largest it has ever been in this book, it is beyond time for his full and complete story to be told! Aodhan is stronger than he has been in 200 years, and it’s high time he gets to spread his wings and make a real impression on the immortal world. Another plus in this read is the gathering of the Cadre. It’s not often this group gathers in one spot and it is impressive when they’re all in one place. The dynamics between the members, the alliances, the nuances, the playfulness (yes, there’s some of that!), and, of course, the violence is fascinating. With two ancients now awake, the balance of power is shifting and, it is with great hope that more ancients rise and more books will be added to the Guild Hunter roster. The Bottom Line: More than anything, I expected to love this book as I have all the others in the series. From a technical perspective, I have no complaints for, as always, Singh’s writing and editing are damn-near flawless. It is wholly and completely with the book’s content that I have issues. I won’t bore you with repetition and rehashing, but I will leave you with this. . . . I’m not done with this series as it has a very good track record, but one more book like Archangel’s Heart and I’ll have to seriously revaluate my relationship with the series.

Elena and her archangel lover Raphael are both on tenterhooks during a period of calm since the last cascade fearing that another cascade could happen at any time. they are also keeping a close eye on Lijuan who seems to be losing her mind and isn't going to go mad with causing major damage and destruction. Things are happening in Lijuan's China that leads the archangels to the conclusion that she is either dead or has chosen to sleep. This leaves a power vacuum in the area. Something must be done. The Luminata call a meeting in their stronghold in Morocco to decide what to do about China. Each archangel can bring two seconds to the meeting. The Luminata are supposed to be a monklike group of angels who are searching for enlightenment. Raphael and Elena know that something is off when they arrive. The atmosphere sets off Elena's senses. She feels that she is being spied upon and she feels that Gian who leads the Luminata is too focused on her. Elena has a secondary reason for going to Morocco. She is trying to track down her mother's family. Her mother was orphaned at age 5 when her mother left her in the care of a kindly nun promising to return but never did. Elena has unique coloring that she feels is inherited. She hopes someone will have known her grandmother. Her visit with some of the other seconds to a nearby town only ramp up her feeling that something is really wrong. The people there are all very frightened of angels. Also, the only people who live in the town are humans. Usually even the smallest town has some vampires too. Asking about her mother frightens the older people even more. This was an entertaining episode in the Guild Hunter series. I love seeing Elena and Raphael's love grow stronger as they get to know each other better. I also like seeing more of the other angels who owe fealty to Raphael. This one gave readers a chance to learn more about Aodhan who is recovering from an abuse filled captivity. I also enjoyed seeing more of Raphael's mother who is an awesomely powerful archangel.
