Claire is just too good. Okay, this is going to sound bad but Claire needs a little bit of the killing instinct sometimes. (In the fictional sense of course) but I would have let Oliver die already. Claire keeps saving his life and I keep feeling like she shouldn't. I just have a bad feeling that in the end he will be the worst villain the glass house residents will have to go up against. Hopefully I'm wrong. Just had to put my two cents in on that.

Claire, Shane, Eve, and Micheal had a lot to deal with, as usual. Claire is definitely maturing and I know that she is dealing with the way of life in Morganville the best she can. Everyone else can seem to get her and keeps accusing her of taking sides. (I guess I'm in that boat sometimes). I was very proud of the way she dealt with Shane not trusting her, he was a total jerk and I hoped that she wouldn't let him off the hook too easily.

This series is still as compelling as the first book. Where is Rachel Caine getting all this material from? I thoroughly enjoyed Bitter Blood and was very surprised at the route it took by the end.

I wonder what path the series will be taking in the next book(s), especially since it's in it's final stages. Guess I'll have to just wait and see.

Another amazing chapter in Morganville history. It never ceases to amaze me how many twists and turns this story can take. I'm really curious where the next book is going to go with the way this one ended. I highly recommend this entire series!

Clare, the girls who seems to be the only one who can solve anything is fixing the vamp town again ! After the last book you would think the vamps would be gracious towards the humans. They would be moving forward to continue the vision for the town ? Nope, silly you, now they want to hunt them, control them, go backwards about 20 steps. She this barely legal girl out matches even the oldest vampire, with her massive brain power. WEll, she is smart in many ways except in her choice of men. Shane really brings his inner cavejerk out. "Roar, hear me run away and blame' Shane the Shameful.
Okay so it's the basically the same ole' everyday thing in town, except somebody is manipulating minds. Who ? I can't tell, but it took them long enough to figure it out. Okay so minds are twisted, the town is getting bad (when isn't it?) , so bad even Myrnin is wanting to leave. When he disappears only one person worries for him, guess who ? On his final goodbye scene to Clare, he gives her something to remember him by. (My highlight of the book) So he's out of the story and the town is going coo coo for cocopuffs. There are fights, beatings, rocks thrown, names called and threats. There is a strange TV crew that arrives in town hunting down ghosts. (this was just weird) The ghosts come out and play. Micheal gives a little something to Clare, Shane and Eve go crazy angry. There is more fighting, more words. Clare makes a smart move and.... Phew-
it was nothing new for this old town but it was an exciting read. The saddest part, the outcome for the bunny slippers. ; (......

I wanted to read this one because I had to find out how things were going to change in Morganville. Honestly, was a little wary of the whole tv show angle, because I feel like we've been there before, but I have faith in Rachel. As it turns out, the biggest issue in the beginning of the book was the changes in Amelie. She seems to have done a big turn around and there are some new and worrying laws and changes being passed. It feels like Claire is pretty hopeless at first, but she is already working on something with Myrnin that shows promise. With Miranda being a ghost comes in the tv show angle, and that was something that I hadn't really considered. She has always been a little weird and not had many people that hung out with her, and you can see her loneliness especially trapped with two sets of happy couples. If that storm wasn't enough, the marriage of Michael and Eve has given them new enemies, from both sides--human and vamp. Michael is one of the only vamps that are standing up to the changes which makes it harder for them to fight what's going on. As usual, the plot and pacing is great. She spends just enough time to give details, set up the next scene, and develop our characters. The romance is great again, and I love Shane and Claire, their devotion to each other, their concern from them. Monica is a new again player in this one. She is lonely since her brother's passing, and she is noticing the changes and not liking the direction of any of them. So they form an unlikely alliance with the Glass house. There were a lot of things that went down at the end of the book that had me going wait, what? are you serious? No! Betrayals, mistrust, misunderstandings, new problems for Morganville, and some shake up. I can't wait for the next one and see where it all leads. Bottom Line: Woah. The unexpected came in this one.

Before get into the review part I want to say something to the authors. There is a lesson needs to be learned from these so popular series that you should not drag them to the point where you won't have an actual story to tell without repetition of the same things. Nowadays, authors never seem to learn that from the downfall of other series.

Now for the review, well it's an ok book nothing great or wow worthy but ok that's all. I read the previous book more than one year back. So honestly I didn't remember anything from the last book except one fact that somehow they got rid of the draug. I was worried that it would ruin the experience of reading this book for me. But as it turned out there was nothing vital connection to the previous book. SO it didn't really matter much in the end.

There was gaping plot wholes in the story line. Honestly there was not much of a story at all until the very end. They were just doing their everyday boring activities and as usual people were trying to hurt them. The main villain was absent from the most part of the story. So I never really felt the presence of the menacing villain throughout the story even not when the she was actually present there at the end. There was not enough character in her at all to feel like she was a real threat or menacing. I mean how would you feel anything towards the villain at all if you don't get to know anything about her? I could be wrong here though. May be her character was described very well in some previous books but I completely forgot about them. So for me she felt completely unknown and a 'shoved in your face' kind of villain, you know just for the sake of it.

How could the founder become so stupid is beyond me. If she is so powerful, how could she not tell that she was being used? And the whole theme of the story is a repetition. Didn't Bishop also try the same kind of thing in some other book?

The novel dragged on and on about nothing for so long and at the very end all the problems got resolved very easily and haphazardly. The ending felt very rushed. What was the deal with the ghosts btw? I didn't understand their actions in the climax. I felt they were completely unnecessary to the plot and so was the TV show crew.

And I have to say this, Shane is such a jerk. I bet Myrnin trusts Claire more than Shane does, even though Myrnin is almost insane.

Even with all the flaws, I still enjoyed the book at some level. It wasn't exactly boring. Yes, there was lack of plot and action but in the end, I didn't feel as much unsatisfied as I thought I would be. It felt, the author ran out of good plots for the series. That's why I said, they should learn to close them before they get boring. The last two books are already out and I do hope they will be better read than this one.

I never thought I'd see myself eager to read the thirteenth novel in a series, not least a vampire series. Good ones are few and far between, but Morganville stands among the best.I'll admit, Bitter Blood definitely lacked purpose at times in comparison to previous novels. The antagonist this time around wasn't nearly threatening enough and only became a real issue towards the end of this 500 whopper. Most of the book is about settling us back into good old Morganville which I can appreciate since we haven't seen the characters go about their business in the town in a while. One gripe I had is that using Michael and Eve's marriage as a catalyst for the conflict felt a bit....eh. I mean, there was no real rush for them to get married, so the hate that ensued felt avoidable and forced. Not to mention, Eve seems really weak now. She pretty much bases her existence around Michael? Also, she has a habit of acting like being married makes their relationship more valid. Nope, a happy non-married couple is worth as much as a happy marriage. She kinda put herself and Michael above Claire and Shane. Not cool. Also, the ghost hunter plot line was weird and not as prevalent as the synopsis made it seem like it would be. I'm happy that Miranda is still around but the ghost stuff is weird and messily addressed. I really don't know how to feel about that one.One thing I need to address is Myrnin's sudden (or at least it was to me) love for Claire. I like it, but I feel like I missed some hint earlier in the books, as if I was supposed to know that. I love Shane but I wouldn't complain about a little Myrnin/Claire action. Although, frankly, I never imagined Myrnin looking like a young-ish man. I always assumed he got turned 35 . Oops. The love conflict towards the end was sucky (pun intended) because Morganville has never been about the romantic tension. I felt it though. It was realistic, and consistent with the characters and how they've reacted to similar situations in the past. I like that Claire stuck to her guns and didn't go, "ya know what? Walk all over me and don't trust me". She held her ground and damn am I proud. She made difficult decisions for herself and that's all I can ask of her. This one gets my approval

Morganville never disappoints however I want to say that this book did seem a lot slower than most of the previous ones. There was some ghostly action which I really enjoyed. This includes a cast and crew of a real life hauntings type of reality show. What happens with this storyline went way further than I could have imagined Rachel taking it! Its always refreshing to read a ton of books by a particular author and still find that the author keeps the reader on his or her toes! Other going ons in Bitter Blood? The town is trying to find a new permanent mayor after the tragedy in the previous novels. The town is trying to rebuild itself. Amalie for some reason has aligned herself with a particularly evil acting Oliver. Gone is the regard Amalie held human in, even the high regard she held for Claire seems to be gone. There is, of course, more at play then meets the eye. Michael and Eve's marriage is also gaining a lot of hateful attention. Will it actually cause violence to break out? I don't want to give anything away. The only things negative I can possibly say is that the book is slow moving for awhile and that it definitely feels like the series was over and then now Ms. Caine has to come up with new, fresh ideas. I believe she can do it, but I also believe that the series originally was meant to end after the previous book.

Another great book in the Morganville Vampires series! This is one of my favorite vampire series. I like the way the vampires and humans live together in the town and the interactions among them. The characters are great! It's kind of like a teenage version of the Sookie Stackhouse books by Charlaine Harris, with less violence and less sex.

Bitter Blood is the 13th book in Rachel Caine's Morganville Vampire series. These books are written mostly for the young adult audience, but I would think most paranormal romance / urban fantasy fans would enjoy them as well. This series is way more tame than say, Laurell Hamilton's Anita Blake series. Don't expect a lot of naughty bits. You can expect lots of good drama, action, romance, and quite a bit of both good and evil vampires. For those unfamiliar, Morganville is a small town in Texas, home to Texas Prairie University (TPU). It is also a town controlled by vampires. The main character in the novels is a young, super genius college student named Claire Danvers. She befriends three Morganville natives and moves in to their shared house. The series follows their exploits and the trouble that ensues from vampires and humans trying to coexist. With the vampires' battle with the Draug behind them it is time to turn their attention back onto the town. Their leader, Amelie, has suddenly decided that the humans have gotten out of control and it is time to take back control. She issues hunting licenses for some of the vampires. The humans are not taking this lightly. A new Captain Obvious appears to rally the town in opposition to the vampires. To make matters worse, a ghost hunter reality show crew shows up to film in Morganville.Plot (10/20)While this is an interesting story, I found it somewhat lacking compared to the other books in the series. It seemed almost too easy to just have the vampires go back to their controlling ways and the humans failing to be organized enough to stand up to them. I felt that the author was trying to hit some kind of magical rewind switch. It was not all bad, though. I really enjoyed the relationship troubles that were introduced between Shane and Claire and then also Michael and Eve. I had been thinking during the previous couple of books that things were getting too comfortable in that arena.Characters (25/25)This book, along with the previous 12, is all about the characters. It would be really hard to not fall in lover with Claire bear Danvers. I also really like Myrnin. It was neat to have a little bit of his point of view in this book. While not exactly a great guy, I also really like Oliver. He seems to be the deepest character in the book. Of course, it helps to also be one of the oldest.Climax / Ending (20/25)The ending was ok. I think the climax of this book is when Claire and Shane have their falling out and when Michael and Eve have their situation. It was kind of downhill from there, with a but of the book left afterwards. Some of the earlier books would end with a real cliffhanger. Spoiler, no cliffhanger here. Well, maybe a very minor question of what is to come. Overall Impression (15/20)I enjoyed this read, but I have to admit, it wasn't as fun as some of the other books in the series. Still, I recommend reading it. The series is wonderful. You should read the series in order, though. This is one of those that you can really miss out on a lot if you aren't up to date on what has been happening. Cover (9/10)I really like the cover of this book. Everyone has a picture in their mind of what characters look like. This one is not exactly how I picture Claire, but it is pretty close. Either way, it is a very pretty girl and that makes for a nice cover. Final Mo Score: 79

Review courtesy of All Things Urban FantasyThe blood hits the proverbial fan in BITTER BLOOD and the fallout makes it one of the most daring Morganville books to date. I’ve long had a number of ‘what if’ questions floating around in my head involving certain Morganville residents that I honestly never expected to actually happen, but Rachel Caine completely shocked me in BITTER BLOOD by letting not one, or two, but three HUGE game changing events play out (one of which still has me reeling). Forget about the happily ever after pairings you thought you knew…there is nothing, I repeat nothing, predictable about the events in BITTER BLOOD.Shocking lip locks aside, Claire once again shares POV with a handful of other characters including a few fascinatingly deranged chapters from Myrnin’s POV that offered glimpses into his very tragic past. I’ve never fully embraced these POV shifts since I prefer Claire’s narration, so I was pleased that there were only a few shifts this time leaving the lion’s share of the story with Claire. This is the vampire series you should be reading. There are two more books currently contracted in the Morganville Vampire series, with the potential for more after that. With each installment, I think Rachel Caine has finally written herself into a corner, only to find that she’s perfectly set up events for the next book. I’ve stopped questioning how on earth Claire and her friends are going to prevail next time and learned to trust Rachel. Whatever happens next, it’s going to be a crazy fun ride. The next book in the Morganville Vampire series called FALL OF NIGHT will be out in May 2013. Please, please put this series on TV before then.Sexual Content: Kissing. References to sex

It feels so good to be walking down the street of Morganville. The taste of the coffee, the blood mobiles driving by, it never ceases to amaze me of how quickly I fall into this series as if I never left. Meeting up with Claire and the glass gang once again, I adored every step in her shoes. As always with vampires it's always a power play. It's no surprise that once again Morganville is under attack and this time it's happening all under the nose of Amelie. I have to admit that the plot of the story runs a bit deeper than what I thought. Amelie is getting played and Claire is finding the culprit to stop the damage that is being done. There are several plot twist that made my heart ache. Claire is always saving others only to have it bite her right in the butt! I mean really!!! C'mon! Throw me a freaking bone here! The love interest. Oh boy, you don't want to get me started there. All I can say is,"Seriously Shane? Really? After all that she has done it's like that!" And "Micheal, I'm so sorry." And "Eve, please don't blame them."If I say anymore that I'd be giving away spoilers. Know this, that Ms. Caine takes it up a notch when it comes your heart and emotions. There are lies, ultimate betrayals all leading up to a powerful ending I can not contain. The beginning may be a bit slow but do not be fooled. It will get hard to read as the power play unravels itself in front of the reader. And when it does, you will not be able to look away...Bitter Blood indeed leaves a bitter taste in your mouth. The changes in the plot and characters are not good ones leading up to BIG decisions. I thought I had seen and read it all when it came to Ms. Caine. She once again, left me utterly speechless with the impressive storytelling of The Morganville Vampires. Bitter Blood leaves the reader painfully aware that the end is coming and when it does, it will not be good. A successful story that you don't want to miss, Bitter Blood is a must read.
