About this audiobook

I suppose some of us have to get really dirty before we can become truly clean.

I was allegedly South Dakota's most famous Old Lady.
Sixteen years ago I had survived my Old Man's murder.

Never again. Never again will I surrender my heart. Never again will I sacrifice to the Club.

But that all changed in one night. I came home and crashed into him, and my past and present blew up in my face. Both of us lonely, running on empty, and unwilling to admit it.

Until now. Now I feel things I'd forgotten about, want things I'd cut out of my insides.

Love not only stings when you lose it, when it's ripped away. When it first sinks its teeth into you, it can cut just as raw and sting just as deep. I'd forgotten that.

Who holds the keys to betrayal? To suspicion? To trust?
To brotherhood? To family? To redemption and a bleeding heart? Right now, I just might.

Cat Porter

CAT PORTER was born and raised in New York City, but also spent a few years in Europe, Texas and the suburbs along the way. As an introverted, only child, she had very big, but very secret dreams for herself. She graduated from Vassar College, was a struggling actress, a SoHo art gallery girl, special events planner, freelance writer, and had all sorts of other crazy jobs all hours of the day and night to help make those dreams come true. She has two children's books traditionally published under her maiden name. She now lives on a beach in Greece with her husband, three children, and huge Cane Corso, and freaks out regularly and still daydreams way too much and now doesn't give AF. She is addicted to old movies, the History Channel, her iPad, her husband's homemade red wine, really dark chocolate, and her Nespresso coffee machine. Writing keeps her somewhat sane, extremely happy, and a productive member of society. If you enjoy emotional, character driven epic tales, her books are for you. I recently read The Dust and The Roar which is the prequel for the Lock and Key series. That book was written after the series, but I was able to read it first which probably hurt me a little when reading Lock and Key. In this book we meet the main characters of Grace and Miller. They are complicated characters with a lot of back story. I knew a little about Miller (Lock), but nothing about Grace. Her story is told in flashbacks throughout the book and takes place in the time period a few years after Dust and Roar ends. Again, I wish I hadn't read the prequel first although it seems to make sense to do so. After finishing Dust and Roar, I wanted to hear more about what Wreck was doing and I was disappointed in where his life went. I wanted more about Wreck and Miller together. I would have liked to have read more about Miller before he became "Lock". Lock and Key was interesting, but I am going to wait a while before I decide on my rating for this book and continue with the series.

I love how Grace is the true center of the story. Even if a female is suppose to be the lead in a book, if it's an MC story, it's really about the badass guy. The girl is just along for the ride. Grace is like a legend, just as awesome as any man.
Most of the great parts in the book come in the second half. After getting into the story, the beginning parts make more sense. Definitely stands out from other MC reads. It's not about an untouchable guy until the perfect woman comes along. It's about a mystery and a plan spanning 16 years.

Let me start this with, OH MY FREAKING GAWD! This is definitely a hidden gem. If this book doesn't take off, then I will be highly disappointed! It is one of a kind. It is full of raw realness that you don't find often in books!

Grace and Miller. These are two names that should be plastered all over blogs and reviews left and right! Oh my! This relationship is something else! It's not a quick build, which I love. It's slow and natural. It's raw and real. It's everything it needs to be!

I have liked most MC books that I have read. However, they aren't typically my favorite to read. They always seem to have something missing that I can never put my finger on. This one is missing nothing! It most definitely is NOT your typical MC book. It's about the MC, but it's not about the MC. It is more character-focused with the MC rules.

I may not have cried like a baby in this one, but I did cry... more than once! Just a few tears. But that says a lot coming from me. I am usually the one standing there scratching my head when people say they wept over a book. I am usually the one sitting here looking confused and baffled on what part or parts had others crying crocodile tears. Now this one, there are some really raw moments. So if you don't cry or shed a few tears, then there is something wrong with you!

Miller and Grace. These are names I should be seeing everywhere in the book world. Where are you people? Why aren't you gushing about this badass couple? They are both strong characters who deserve their spotlight! Their pasts have shaped who they are and where they are in the present. And the story of how they came to be where they are is no joyride either. It is rough and heart breaking, which is what makes these two the perfect characters in this story. They aren't sappy and lovey dovey (thank goodness). They are bold and strong.

Now, you are probably wondering if I loved this book so much, why not the 5 stars? I will tell you why not. It's not necessarily a deal breaker, but it did stop me from giving it that last half a star. I know, I can be picky sometimes. The beginning of the story almost put me off. The opening was way too descriptive. It wasn't all needed, and it almost put me off of reading the book. I prayed it didn't continue throughout the story. Don't worry, it didn't. Then the ending. Once everything is wrapped up. Then the story continues for a couple more chapters AND an epilogue. I get it. Cat wanted to give us that extra ending. But, again, it was overkill. Those chapters and the epilogue could have been summed up in one chapter and a short epilogue, and we still would have gotten the same effect. I found my self begging for it to be over, but it kept going.

In a nutshell, this book is kick-ass! You would be a fool to not read it!

This book was one of those books that is a must read and also a book that you cannot put down.

In this there is romance, sex, loss, and violence, what else do you need for a f**cking fantastic MC Biker book.
Oh not forgetting the sexy bikers.

This was beautifully written and my first read by this author.
The story flowed perfectly and we were able to find out the background of why these people did the things they did.

Is it a great read? Oh Yeah
Is there sexy Bikers? Mmmmmm deliciously so.
What more can you ask for???
