About this audiobook

Amid the beauty of Charleston, not all is as it seems.

When her husband Liam is killed by a car bomb while their Celtic band is on tour in Charleston, singer and Irish beauty Alanna doesn’t quite know where to turn. Her father-in-law is threatening to take custody of the baby she carries, but Alanna knows she can’t lose the only piece of Liam she has left.

Alanna’s manager offers her a marriage of convenience to obtain U.S. citizenship and allow her to escape her father-in-law’s control. It seems like the perfect solution until she arrives at the family home of her new husband—a decaying mansion with more questions than answers.

Strange things begin happening that threaten Alanna’s life and the life of her child. Are they merely coincidences? Or is something more sinister at work?

A mysterious painting, a haunting melody, and a love stronger than death leave Alanna questioning where darkness ends and light begins.

Title: Because You’re Mine Author: Colleen CoblePages: 336Year: 2017Publisher: Thomas NelsonMy rating is 5 out of 5 stars.I just finished the book and my heart rate is still up! Early on, I thought I had pretty much figured out what was happening; yet, the author kept the peddle on suspense all the way until the very end! I enjoyed reading about characters whose nationality was Irish. The description of the land, smells and places put me right into the thick of the land I hope to someday see with my own eyes. I also enjoyed that the music group was Celtic as my family and I enjoy the talents, language and music that can enrich one’s heart. There were surprises when I was getting near the end like what Barry might have hid behind a locked door on one floor of the huge house or the way the nanny was living now that there were no longer young children in the home requiring care. The tension between Barry, the manager and Liam, the husband, toward Allana and Jesse was palpable and slowly Colleen reveals the why.The novel just seemed to flow easily as I read while slowly turning up the psychological part of the book. There was one part that told me something more was going on, but I couldn’t quite put my finger on it until the author tells us what she kept hidden. It’s hard to say much more about the novel without accidently letting out a spoiler, so I will just say one more thing. If one is looking for a great thriller that pulls you in from the beginning to the end, here is a book not to pass up!Disclosure of Material Connection: I received one or more of the products or services mentioned above for free in the hope that I would mention it on my blog. Oh please. Not only was this transparent from the get-go, but ridiculous in many aspects of premise. I read it only because it was supposedly set in Charleston and a nearby plantation. I'll give the author credit for getting Hibernian Hall as a conceivable location for an Irish performance, though it's not a theater, and she didn't have John Corless mentioned. She also got that there can be blackwater within 20 miles of Charleston, but not much else realistic about the setting of the "decaying mansion" where Alanna and her new husband reside. My eyeballing was so evident as I was reading the book, that my husband, sitting across the room from me, thought I might be having seizures. I think I actually slammed the book shut when she had a characterstuff his face full of "bennes" (meaning benne cookies, or benne wafers) and come from the kitchen holding two more. The problem is "bennes" are sesame seeds and distinctly different from benne wafers. And let's not even get into some of the medical stuff that happens... full body burns healed completely, enough for final facial reconstruction with no scarring within 6 months? Knife wounds and other miraculous healings? Even a willing suspension of disbelief and a deep faith in powers beyond human couldn't sustain me.There's a decided difference between a USA Today best selling author and a New York Times bestselling author. Give me my time back, please.PS Don't feed alligators marshmallows.

I have always loved this authors books. She writes with such depth and makes the stories come to life. This was a bit different from her usually books, but I have to say it was so powerful and intense I couldn't put it down. When I first met Alanna I was thrilled to know she was Irish. She was beautuful with delicate skin and had a sweet spirit around her. I could hear her accent and see the freckles that danced across her face. I loved how the author gave us bits and pieces of the Irish customs. I didn't like how gullible and so trusting she was. When an unexpected devastating accident happens, Alanna finds out her husband had died, and his best friend Jesse was barely clinging to life. It was a shock for Alanna's manager to step in when Liam's parents threaten Alanna with a lawsuit. Liam and Alanna never got around to telling their family and friends that Alanna was pregnant. So begins the sordid world that Alanna becomes apart of. I thought it was a bit much for Alanna to marry her manager Barry and live in the states to keep the baby away from Liam's parents by in Ireland. I didn't trust Barry at all and found him to be arrogant and very demanding. What has Alanna gotten herself into? When they return to Barry's estate Alanna senses that something is off. Doors locked with no answer to why , a picture hanging up that resembles Alanna , Barry so possessive that Alanna can't really do anything and we mustn't forget the creature in the swamp. I was worried for Alanna's safety as accidents started happening to her. When Jesse shows up, he has memory loss that I didn't really believe. For me I could guess right away what was going to be revealed. The story is intense with lots of secrets and a bit of violence that unnerved me. I did not like the part about the kittens and their possible demise. It made me realize how sinister and sick Barry was. Is Barry willing to kill to keep Alanna to himself? Can someone save her before it's to late?Overall the book was a bit predictable but had enough drama to keep me interested in the story. I liked the theme that things are not always what they appear to be. I rate this four out of five for the predictability and the violence that dealt with animals.I received a copy of this book from The Fiction Guild and publisher. The review is my own opinion.

I really like Colleen Coble's books a lot. This one, not so much. Alanna and her husband are in a celtic band called Coel. At the onset of the book, Alanna's husband, Liam, and his friend, Jesse, are involved in a car bomb. Liam dies and Jesse survives. Alanna is heartbroken and pregnant. Liam's family has decided that because Alanna comes from a family of gypsies that she is an unfit mother and they are going to raise the child themselves. Meanwhile, Barry, the band's manager, has proposed that he will marry Alanna, give her American citizenship and Liam's family can't touch her or her baby. Parts of this book were really, really good. Then there are parts that were very flimsy and I could see right through them. I knew very early on something that was plain to see that one of the characters did not see. And because of that, I had a hard time with the book. The character made a LOT of bad choices and was not a strong character. The book was suspenseful though with a very evil character and a nasty mother-in-law. I could not believe some of the things that she did. This book did not turn me off of Colleen Coble. I just had a problem with the choices that the main character was making. I didn't have a problem finishing the book as I did want to see what happened. Thanks to Harper Collins for sending me this book in hopes that I would read and review it.

Because You’re Mine is the latest novel by Colleen Coble. Alanna Connolly is a singer and fiddle player in the band Ceol. Alanna created the Celtic band that includes Fiona, Ciara, Ena. Alanna’s husband, Liam plays percussion instruments for Ceol. After a performance in Charleston, Liam is going out with his friend, Jesse Hawthorne. The pair went to college together in Ireland. Liam leaves with Jesse and Alanna heads out in the van with her bandmates. They get down the street when there is an explosion. Jesse’s yellow sports car is in flames. Only one of the men survived the explosion. The paramedics ask the survivor his name and they are told Jesse. Alanna is devastated at the loss of her husband especially since she is four months pregnant with their first child. Upon returning to Ireland for the funeral, Liam’s father, Thomas threatens to sue for custody of Alanna’s baby (their last link to their son). Alanna will not let them get her son and asks Barry Kavanagh, lawyer and band manager, for assistance. Alanna wishes to become a citizen of the United States. Barry tells her the fastest way to accomplish it is to marry and he proposes. Barry is from an old southern family in Charleston, and he will be able to keep the child (and Alanna) safe. Alanna quickly agrees and they marry eight weeks after Liam’s funeral. After the wedding, Barry takes Alanna to his old family home twenty miles from Charleston. The big house is positioned near a swamp that is home to a gator named Pete. The home is in desperate need of repairs. It turns out that Barry neglected to mention a few things to Alanna. The crumbling Kavanagh home is full of secrets and danger. To make things worse, Jesse keeps popping up in Alanna’s life. Jesse has memory of life before the accident and he does not like what he has discovered. He wants to make changes. Join Alanna, Jesse, and Barry in Because You’re Mine.Because You’re Mine is nicely written and easy to read. I found the storyline to be predictable. I could tell how the book would end before Alanna married Barry (I forecasted every “twist”). I found several things odd and just plain unbelievable. Alanna likes to walk around without her shoes on. Would you walk near a swamp without shoes on? Especially since there are snakes and gators hanging around! I can understand wanting to protect her unborn child, but rushing into marriage with a man you barely know. Alanna also fails to research citizenship requirements or custody laws for herself (would you trust an American attorney on Irish law). I give Because You’re Mine 2 out of 5 stars. I thought Alanna to be very naïve and gullible for someone who is about to turn thirty. I was disappointed in the books ending. The author did not wrap up all the threads with the epilogue. I felt Because You’re Mine an expected love story, and it reminded me of those chick flicks that I do not watch (on the very famous women’s channel).

This book had me page-turning as fast as I could read to get to the end and find the answers, even the title put my mind singing “Because You're Mine”, and you can conjure up what the story is about. Wrong.Allana appears to have it all as the book opens, her Celtic band is heading to the top, she is married to the man of her dreams, and they are expecting their first baby. Of course, things can’t stay that way, but you never expect the turn of events that are about to happen. While I figured out early on what was happening, there were still lots of surprises, and all that we picture is not always as they are, and with this book it is so very true. The estate that Allana ended up at gave me the creeps, while I should have loved the historic old mansion, and when the pets or domestic animals, cats and dogs, end up missing, ugh! With her father-in-law threatening to take her baby, and her manager offering her a life line, we have to hope that this is the answer, sounds good, but of course, things are not all what we think they are.I loved her friends, and the mention of the Travelers, and the connection to them, our Irish Gypsies, and as it turns out Allana’s roots.Once you start this one you are going to need answers.I received this book through Net Galley the Publisher Thomas Nelson, and was not required to give a positive review
