About this audiobook

Prince Lyov Nikolayevitch Myshkin is one of the great characters in Russian literature. Is he a saint or just naïve? Is he an idealist or, as many in General Epanchin's society feel, an 'idiot'? Certainly, his return to St. Petersburg after years in a Swiss clinic has a dramatic effect on the beautiful Aglaia, youngest of the Epanchin daughters, and on the charismatic but willful Nastasya Filippovna.

As he paints a vivid picture of Russian society, Dostoyevsky shows how principles conflict with emotions - with tragic results.

Strange. Tragic and maybe comical. I wouldn’t recommend it to everyone. But if you like characters there are those. I may have to revisit this at some point as I think it may take a second time through to fully appreciate.

Dostoevsky is one of the greatest. This isn't my favorite work of his but I think if had understood that this book is more about character psychology than simple events I would have enjoyed dissecting the many characters more and gotten more out of the story as I read it

Not sure. The ending left me wishing I could get those 30 hours back. It just took a really dark turn at the end that was a lot darker than I anticipated, I guess.

In my humble opinion this is by far the most beautiful book I have ever read or listened to.

Few books have brought tears to my eyes.

It is beyond poetic, beyond a work of art, beyond a novel, it is purely nothing but life itself.

When reviewing an audiobook, the review should specify what it is reviewing.
The five stars are for the audio portion of the audiobook. This voice actor brought the book to life in a masterful, wonderful way.
The content of the book is a different matter. I have enjoyed Dostoyevsky in The Brothers Karamazov and in Crime and Punishment. This is my third experience with his writing and I have to say this is by far my least favorite book of his. While The Brothers Karamazov left me pondering deep questions about God and the purpose of life and justice and judging a person by circumstance, The Idiot just left me frustrated. While Crime and Punishment helped me see the futility of creating an individual morality apart from the morality of the rest of the population, the Idiot is just tiring. In addition, the transitions of the book are choppy which can be confusing.

Just not for me... 24 hours of my life gone. The narrator is however brilliant!
