I really enjoyed this book, which is a stand-alone book in the Logan Point series. The characters are different from Shadows of the Past, but the location is the same.This book is fast-paced, lots of action and characters and places. At times it is hard to believe that Logan Point is a small place where many of the characters grew up. I would expect more of them to know each other well.But the characters are memorable and the problems real. The dual point of view is a good balance, and does not give away the story. Overall it is well done and easy to recommend as a clean story of action with a strong faith base.

      Small towns can be murder. Tony Jackson, small business CFO and big-time gambler, dies in Sheriff Ben Logan's arms. But not before hinting he knows who shot Ben's sheriff father and making Ben promise to protect Tony's beautiful sister, Dr. Leigh Somerall.What an exciting ride this story is! A missing pen drive, stolen gun parts, a love triangle, secrets, and main characters constantly besieged by dangers (you'll have to read the book to see the varied kinds)! Wow!I love how faith plays a prominent part in resolving the personal issues of the main characters, though it takes them a long time to do so. The Bible talks about working out our own salvation with fear and trembling. I also love the use of an I-Pad in the story in a special way!One parting quotable, so true..."people are going to believe what they want to. Truth doesn't matter-- they'll go with what they think they see every time." (Deputy Wade Hatcher)This may be book two in the series, but it stands alone quite well. However, I for one am going hunting for book one and eventually book three!!I received this book from bookfun.org in exchange for an honest review.

      I enjoyed the interactions between Leigh and Jake. What starts out as working together to find out what happened to her brother winds up stirring up old memories between the two old friends. Jake starts out protecting Leigh after something happens to her brother, but soon old feelings start to resurface. I looked forward to seeing what would happen next and kept reading to find out what happened next. I liked seeing the twists and how the characters learned to work things of the past out to fix things of the future.I received this book free to review.

      A Promise to Protect by Patricia Bradley is a romantic suspense novel sure to appeal to all fans of the genre. The second book in the Logan Point series, it can definitely stand alone. Most of the characters are new, although there are appearance from some characters in book 1, Shadows of The Past. Filled with twists and turns, this book packs a lot between the covers, including a romance that the reader can cheer for. Great for those looking for a romantic page-turner.Leigh Sommerall has returned to Logan Point after many years of absence. Now a doctor, Leigh is determined to get her year long service contract done so she can get away from her home town and the secrets surrounding her past. But the death of her brother and the danger to herself and her young son TJ, put her under the protection of her ex-boyfriend Ben Logan. Danger seems to follow them both as they navigate a new start and a second chance at love.There is a lot going on in A Promise to Protect – arson, murder, kidnapping, and more. The action really never lets up. I figured out early just who was behind all the mayhem in the small town, but that didn’t detract from my enjoyment of the novel. I was eager to see just what would happen next! The characters are likable and struggle with real life issues. Readers are sure to root for Ben and Leigh’s relationship. The themes of truth and forgiveness are explored, and the message of God’s care, mercy and forgiveness is strong. Overall, A Promise to Protect is a good bet for those who like non-stop action with a big helping of romance.Recommended.Audience: Adults.(Thanks to Revell for a review copy of the book.       A Promise to Protect is the second book in the Logan Point series. The first book is Shadows of the Past, the author's debut novel. If this book is an indication of Ms. Bradley's writing style, then I'm hooked. I need to get the first novel to read, and then hope the author's books come out quickly.Sheriff Ben Logan has followed in his father's footsteps and become Sheriff of Bradford County. His father had served the county for many years, and only ended his service when he was shot at close range. Miraculously he survived but his recovery has been slow. In addition, he suffered a stroke and couldn't speak or communicate well, so he was unable to tell his son, Ben, the details behind the shooting. But Ben could tell by the expression in his eyes that he was still alert and cognizant. In the meantime, Ben has been acting sheriff awaiting the elections to make his job permanent. But a series of dangerous events began to threaten the town, his close friends, and Dr. Leigh Somerall and her son TJ. Dr. Somerall's brother, Tony had called the sheriff to meet him somewhere he considered safe. Over the phone, he told Ben he had some information the FBI and the US Marshalls would be interested in on a flash drive. He also hinted that he may have more information on his father's shooting as well. But when Ben arrived, Tony was dying, shot in the chest. His last words to Ben was an injunction to protect Leigh.Dr. Leigh Somerall was an ER doctor at Logan Point's hospital, Bradford General. She had returned to her home town to finish out her contract to pay off her student loan at her brother's request. Once finished with her loans, she would be free to follow her dream to work at Johns Hopkins, a teaching hospital in Baltimore. If she survived being around Ben Logan, that is. She and Ben had a history going back ten years when they attended high school together. Though they had gone to different colleges, one summer they came back and worked at the same place. They dated and fallen in love. But once Fall came around they went their separate ways again. Now here she was in her home town again, a widow with a young son, living with her brother in their grandparents' house.Sheriff Ben took his responsibilities seriously. Not only did he have to solve Tony's murder, but he had to find why someone was threatening Leigh and her son's lives. He had to determine if there was a connection between the threats against her and the ones that seemed to be aimed at him. Leigh didn't want to be around Ben very much, so as much as she could she avoided him. He still insisted she have an escort wherever she went. Sometimes it was Ben. She was afraid that eventually he would find out a ten-year-old secret that could disrupt her life and her son's.From the first page, this book is filled with action-packed suspense, mystery and tension. We wonder who killed Tony and why? Where is the flash drive Tony was concerned about? Who is Armero? Who is making threatening calls to Leigh? Why is Sheriff Ben Logan being targeted? Who shot his father, and is it related to Tony's death? And with all this, Ben has to deal with Leigh's return and his attraction to her. I enjoyed trying to solve the mysteries along with the sheriff. The author provides a few clues, but not too many; what's given is not too obvious or blatant, so that at the conclusion there were plenty of surprises for the reader.I felt the balance between the action and character development was just right. Both Leigh and Ben had issues to work through that threw up barriers to their growing relationship. One barrier in particular bothered me, however. In an incident where Ben was a life guard at the lake beach area, one of the boys in his charge drowned. Even though he followed procedures exactly, the boy was lost. Since then, he has had panic attacks at moments where there may be triggers. To me this sounded more like the result of PTSD because of the flashback moments. No law enforcement officer should keep this a secret, but seek help for the symptoms and their cause, because not doing so puts the people he is trying to protect at risk. I felt this should have been written a little differently.Other than that one issue, I loved the book and the premise. The author has created believable characters that come alive in the pages. We empathize with them, hurt with them. The action is riveting. The author has also done remarkable research so that the hospital scenes with the doctor, and the ambulance scenes felt authentic.       A dying request, protect my sister, an old friend, how could he refuse? Of course, being the sheriff and having a past with the sister also goes into the consideration. Little did Ben know how much protection Leigh was going to need, and how involved he was about to become.We find a woman who has made something of herself, and has a very big secret. She has challenged herself to be the very best at what she does, and she is now a Doctor. She is a smart woman, with very little self-esteem.Ben also seems to have a lot to prove, to both himself and his parents, mainly his father. He is following in his Dad’s footsteps and is acting sheriff right now, and hoping to run for election. Someone seems to be out to stop that from happening, does this persons agenda about Ben or is it about Leigh? Will someone end up dying before we get the answers as to who is responsible, for murder?Their are several twists in this story and sometimes it seems like we are running in two directions at the same time, are they connected, or is everything separate? Then there is TJ, a ten year old that Leigh is the Mother of, and Sarah a charming older woman, who has been like a mother and grandmother to them comes to help them.We also meet Ben’s family and TJ is able to see what having an extended family is like, and you see his yearning for it. Will Leigh finally find the success she seems to crave, or will the evil that is out there be able to grab her? God is there pulling for her and TJ, and you will love how he opens up the doors and closes others.I loved this book, and it became a compelling page-turner as I sought the answers to all the questions I had, you won’t be able to put this one down.I received this book through Revell Book Publishers, and was not required to give a positive review.
