- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Second in the Elm Quilters series and set 2 years after The Quilters Apprentice.
The Quilt camp is up and running, and the group members all help out and give classes.
Each chapter gives focus on a different member of the group and the problems they have as they aim to make a round robin quilt for Slyvia. Bonnie finds her husband is about to meet a woman he knows from the internet in order to have an affair. Diane is having trouble with a neighbour when she builds a skateboard ramp in her back yard. Slyvia's friend Andrew returns after a 50 year absence. Sarah's relationship with her mother hasnt gotten any better after the constant criticism dircted towards her.
The book is short (approx 300 pages in paperback), and with only a chapter per person, the resolution of each problem can therefore seem trite and a little forced. Some people find Sarah an immature woman unwilling to move on, but they are clearly people who have not suffered from someone continually criticising everything they do. - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This was a great 2nd book for a series. It fleshed the other main characters out nicely. Glad to see Carol, Sharon, & Matt are getting their equilibrium back. One quibble: when an ecpetienced needleworker gets s drop of blood on their work, they do not get it out with cold water! Instead, a drop of two of the bleeding persons’s saliva takes it right out! Presto-magico !
- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5The book just wasn't for me. The symbolism of the "round robin" as both plot device and motif just hit me as sappy. I didn't connect with any of the characters.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I loved this second book in the series, even more than the first. I enjoyed learning about each character and how they were such good friends. Great ending.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5I enjoyed this book, but I wish that the author would include pictures of all of the types of quilts that she talks about. Being a non-quilter, the descriptions are difficult to visualize.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5It's a fun, fast read. It is obvious and the relationships are a little fake and yet it is just a fun, feel good book that I enjoy reading. It makes me smile and makes me want to take up quilting.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5A light cosy read even if you don't care for quilting. Not a lot of substance but satisfying all the same.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I absolutely loved this second installment of the Elm Creek Quilters series. Their quilters' retreat has been in operation for awhile, but they all suddenly realize they need a quilt on the wall where visitors are welcomed to the Manor. Secretly the Elm Creek Quilters begin work on a round robin quilt for Sylvia to put there. I loved this glimpse into the lives of each quilter and how their part of the quilt reflected what was happening in their lives. We are introduced to two new characters in this installment -- Sarah's mother Carol and Sylvia's old friend Andrew. Each of these play an important part in this installment.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Second in the series. Another great read (light read) for quilters & non quilters alike.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5The quilter's continue. Loved how the story explained each of the characters.
