About this audiobook

Eve Bradley was undercover looking for a story, not a cause. But something about the man they called Subject Thirteen got her involved. The scientists said he was a devil, and they had a decent case: Terrifying power. A bad attitude. And looks that could lead anyone to sin . . .

Cain O'Connor knows the minute he catches her candy scent that Eve could drive him wild. But she's a threat-in a way no one has been for him in years. She's safer away from him, too. But with a powerful conspiracy determined to shut Eve up for good, there's no time to argue. All they can do is trust their instincts-and their hearts . . .

Contains mature themes.

The "Hero" has no redeeming qualities to me, the "heroine" was seriously stupid, and reckless and just, what the actual hell was she thinking the entire book. Borderline rape. Really stupid sex scenes. Like, for real. I don't understand how this book has an average of almost 4 stars.

Read for Fun (Library)Overall Rating: 4.00Story Rating: 4.25Character Rating: 3.75First Thought when Finished: Oh I am loving me some Pheonix power in Burn for Me by Cynthia Eden!Quick Thoughts: I haven't read a whole lot of Cynthia Eden but I am thinking that should change. This world she created with paranormals, experiments, love, action, and really nasty guys really hooked me. I immediately put my name on the hold list for books 2 and 3 at the library. I will admit to being more in love with the story than the couple in book 1 but in a kick ass world that is really enough for me. Not that Cain and Eve weren't hot for each other but they just didn't wow me. The guys coming up though--WOWZER!Part of my Read It, Rate It, File It, DONE! Reviews

*Book source ~ A review copy was provided in exchange for an honest review.Eve Bradley is a reporter undercover trying to expose Dr. Richard Wyatt and his Project Genesis as the true evil that they are when she encounters Subject Thirteen, Cain O’Connor. The world knows about the paranormal creatures that inhabit their world, but the paranormals try to stay out of the limelight. Dr. Wyatt says that his subjects are volunteers and while that may be true for some of them, the majority are captives for his torturous experiments, experiments he conducts in an effort to create the perfect soldier, the perfect weapon, an unstoppable killing machine. And while he doesn’t know exactly what Cain is Wyatt thinks he’s found it in the man who doesn’t die. But Cain has no intention of sticking around much longer. His beast is growing stronger and now Eve is involved in trying to help him get out. However, Wyatt won’t want to lose his prize and with the might of the government backing him, Eve and Cain will have to run fast and far. Who will win in the end?Cynthia Eden is one of my favorite authors. When I pick up a book by her I’m 99.99% guaranteed I’m going to be entertained. In fact, I can pretty much guarantee that I’ll not want to put the book down. This book lives up to my expectations for an Eden book. This new series starts off flaming hot. Cain, oh, Cain. *fans self* What a hottie! Literally! Cain is a shifter I’ve not yet seen in a book and he’s very unusual. I loved his battle with his beast, learning the parameters of his existence and his fight to keep yet push away Eve. Eve is no pushover and I like a strong heroine. She has a mysterious past that is revealed slowly throughout the book and I have to say I love the end result. These two were meant to be together and the steamy scenes were beyond sizzling. There are a few characters introduced that I look forward to seeing though I wasn’t quite enamored with Ryder the vampire. I’ll reserve judgment on him until I read Once Bitten, Twice Burned coming out April 29th of this year.

Review courtesy of Dark Faerie TalesQuick & Dirty: A dark and violent storyline filled with rough sex and death (thankfully not together). This book is also quite fast-paced and contains a sizzling hot Phoenix.Opening Sentence: The first time Eve Bradley saw Subject Thirteen, he was in chains. The Review:The first installment of the Phoenix Fire series starts off sizzling hot and doesn’t stop to let the fire burn out. Eve Bradley is a reporter and she has gone undercover for the biggest story of her life. She is posing as a nurse at Genesis, a “genetic research facility”. Genesis is the name it operates as but Eve knows that it experiments on Supernaturals. Roughly ten years earlier, vampires revealed themselves to the world and let everyone know that all kinds of the paranormal are real. As soon as Eve sees Subject 13, her suspicions are confirmed, that Genesis is responsible for the disappearances and deaths of many supernatural creatures over the years.Subject 13 is one such creature that was duped and turned over to Genesis. Although with his severe lack of trust in anyone, I still wonder how he managed to get caught in the first place. Subject 13 is Cain and he is a Phoenix (I don’t feel like I’m giving anything away, it is the series title after all…) and if you are familiar with Phoenixes you know what they can do, so Cain is subject to the worst experiments of all.Eve is called in to assist Dr. Richard Wyatt on the experiments conducted on Cain. After witnessing Dr. Wyatt’s horrible testing, Eve decides she has to break Cain out but what she doesn’t know is that her cover has been compromised. The rest of Burn for Me follows Eve and Cain as they try to stay one step ahead of a crazy manipulator who still just sees them as test subjects running more tests for him as they are on the run.Eve Bradley is one tough lady with a life altering secret that not even her best friend knows about. For the most part, I liked Eve. She managed to keep her calm, levelheadedness even as things were falling apart around her. She knew what she wanted and had no problem vocalizing them.On the other hand, I’m not too sure how I felt about Cain. He was definitely hot and it is nice that he can only have eyes for one lady but I felt Cain was just too tough. He was always domineering and rough (even though Eve preferred it that way). He kept going between thoughts of leaving Eve behind to not getting enough of her.Burn for Me has a really dark storyline featuring lots of death, torture-like experiments and sex. This novel really sizzled in the sex department. It didn’t take Eve and Cain very long before they got it on and Eve certainly liked it rough. There are plenty of these moments sprinkled throughout this fast paced book. As I mentioned, Eve and Cain are on the run and at every turn there is trouble. They really don’t have much time to settle down, they just have really hot sex before they must go back on the run again.Overall, I am a huge fan of Cynthia Eden’s and I really enjoyed this novel. I haven’t seen too many Phoenix’s so far in the paranormal world and I can’t wait to see what else is in store for this world. The ending was definitely left wide open with a potential even deadlier bad guy (or maybe not?) and a few other characters that I would really like to get to know more about.Notable Scene:She wasn’t leaving. He’d helped her. She’d helped him. Didn’t he get it? They were a team.Until this mess was over.“I’m not going anyplace,” Eve told him and was rather proud of the firm sound of her own voice. His back tensed. “You don’t know . . . how thin my control is right now . . .” He glanced back at her, and she saw the stark hunger etched on his face. “When I come back . . . I’m not the same . . . I need.”She was getting that. She was also thinking . . . He isn’t the only one who needs. “You’re not leaving me alone this time.”He frowned at her. Still looking lost and angry and wild.Eve licked her lips and his jaw locked. Her breath whispered out and she said, “This time, you don’t dump me at a pit stop and never look back.“Eve . . .”She stepped toward him. Lifted her chin. “I want you too.” The stark truth. Pride wasn’t going to hold her back. He needed. She needed.Screw pride.FTC Advisory: Kensington Brava provided me with a copy of Burn for Me. In Burn for Me the passion burns hotter than the life-giving flames of the phoenix. Undercover reporter, Eve Bradley, is determined to expose the truth about the Genesis group. Shortly after infiltrating the research facility she meets Subject Thirteen, Cain O’Connor. After witnessing the malicious acts committed by the head of the Genesis group, Dr. Richard Wyatt, Eve’s desire to reveal the cruelties is accelerated. I was swept into the story immediately.“You smell like fucking candy…”She stilled. Now her heartbeat was the one racing too fast. “You make me…” His voice dropped, but she caught the ragged growl of “hungry.”Just like a phoenix obtains new life by arising from the ashes of its predecessor, each story arc brings a new intense component to the overall tale. In true Cynthia Eden writing style, the danger grows exponentially throughout the entire story. Be sure to clear your schedule – this is a stay-up-all night read.

Enjoyed the Phoenix and other paranormal people but went with the three stars because I'm not an action book fan. There was a lot to like in the novel, but I had to skim passed a lot of explosions and gun fights. If you like your paranormal erotic romances with action, you will like this book.
