Die Erben, die sich im Schloss des verstorbenen Lords versammelt haben, staunen nicht schlecht. Bei der Testamentsverlesung erfahren sie, dass ihr Erbanteil nur dann ausgezahlt wird, wenn sie die folgenden sechs Tage und sechs Nächte zusammen in dem alten Gemäuer verbringen. Nachdem sich die untereinander völlig zerstritten Verwandtschaft einigermaßen mit dem unerfreulichen Inhalt des Testaments abgefunden hat, unterbricht ein Unwetter die Strom- und Telefonleitung und schneidet das gesamte Anwesen von der Außenwelt ab. Kurz darauf wird der erste Erbe mit einem indischen Tuch erdrosselt.
