About this audiobook
One invitation. A lifetime of regrets.
Sweet sixteen. It’s an exciting coming-of-age, a milestone, and a rite of passage. Jeff and Kim Sanders plan on throwing a party for their daughter, Hannah—a sweet girl with good grades and nice friends. Rather than an extravagant, indulgent affair, they invite four girls over for pizza, cake, movies, and a sleepover. What could possibly go wrong?
But things do go wrong, horrifically so, and Jeff and Kim’s flawless life in a wealthy San Francisco suburb suddenly begins to come apart. In the ugly aftermath, friends become enemies, dark secrets are revealed in the Sanders’ marriage, and the truth about their perfect daughter is exposed.
Perfect for fans of Big Little Lies, this is a white-knuckled and “riveting tale that is impossible to put down” (Bill Clegg, New York Times bestselling author of Did You Ever Have a Family).

- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5This book was a boring mess. I had hoped it would have a good ending, but it was a surprisingly horrible book.

- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5Maybe entertaining for teenage girls. Based on the reviews I had figured it would be a decent entertaining read... it was drawn out and absurdly shallow and one dimensional. Don’t waste your time

- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5I really enjoyed the story and the narration was excellent. But I could have done without the many cuss and swearing words.

- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5This story is awful. There isn't even any real drama, just a group of particularly alike people worried about the wrong darned things. The chapter characters are mostly decent but their priorities are so fudged up, you're just waiting for them to get what they deserve. The most consistent elements are the theme of entitlement and the way it was handled...(spoiler alert...) Completely on brand. First world boring ass suburban housewife gossip BS that literally no one else cares about where everything turns out mostly all right at the end and no one learns a datgum thing. Donnez moi un break...

- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5This book should be labeled as young adult or adolescent fiction. I think teenage girls would like it—just not for me

- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Ok...the characters in this book were not like able. Not a single one. I listened to the whole thing only so I could find out the twist(spoiler there was none). Most certainly not in the same vein as Liane Moriarty.

- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5I was totally enraptured by this story from the start....then I reached the end. It fell flat! Thus, 3 stars. Great story, fast paced. The two main female adult characters were well written. Both deeply flawed and swimming in self loathing, easy to dislike them and yet waiting for them to each find salvation. I was disappointed for it really never came. Quite a disappointing ending considering the rest of the book was quite good.

- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5Ugh. Just don’t bother. Horrible people doing stupid things, not a page-turner, just a slog.

- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5These characters... I don't know how this author creates the most superficial, ugly, and spiteful characters, but this book is LOADED with them. The only character I liked was Aidan and he had maybe 30 lines total in this book. So if you're into that kind of thing, this is your book.

- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5It was more realistic than most twisty suspenseful stories. I know a good book when it makes me feel and identify with characters that live outside of my moral character... and when I can guess a few predictable behavior choices but it all.. overall a good read and good narration.

- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5I really disliked this book. I don’t know how it got so many good reviews and I really don’t know why it’s classified as a psychological thriller. I kept listening and hoping it would get better but it did not. I wish I could have those 9 hours back!
- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5Not a redeeming character or storyline. This was a waste of time.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I enjoyed this story very much so. The narrator was hilarious. Lots of dark humor, I highly recommend.
- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5The story was monotonous and the characters were not that interesting. A frustrating read.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Very well written! This book had me hooked from the very beginning! 10/10 recommend!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This novels takes an incident at a 16th birthday party and maps the ramifications and secrets! The cliques of teenagers and adults, the meanness of bullying, the way events spiral. Lives are changed, destroyed,, turned upside down. It was fascinating, intelligent and I'm afraid very realistic and believable. An astonishing read!
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5This was compelling and well written. Really good narrator. Some plot holes, but most irritating was the wholly unbelievable civil trial story line - I don’t expect fiction to adhere strictly to real life litigation, but this was not even close.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Kind of dumb ending
It was a good listen but just okay overall - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This book was awesome! I was hooked from Chapter 1!

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This book is just as good as all her other ones! If you want to give it up after a chapter or so, do not do that! It’s excellent.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5The ending was a bit disappointing because Hannah didn’t learn a lesson about true friends vs popularity. Other than that it was intensely satisfying
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Love how this story played out. Kept me on the edge of my seats. Interesting structure and narration. Found the characters relatable and became invested in them over time.
- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5Did not have a good play...too mean girlish for me
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5A quick easy read. It was ok! I found it very hard to really like or root for any of the characters.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Good story and held my attention but the harsh language was unnecessary.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Great audiobook. I enjoyed the story and will definitely read other novels by this author
