About this audiobook

Let's get one thing straight-Ivy Wilde is not a heroine. In fact, she's probably the last witch in the world who you'd call if you needed a magical helping hand, regardless of her actual abilities. If it were down to Ivy, she'd spend all day every day on her sofa, where she could watch TV, munch junk food, and talk to her feline familiar to her heart's content.

However, when a bureaucratic disaster ends up with Ivy as the victim of a case of mistaken identity, she's yanked very unwillingly into Arcane Branch, the investigative department of the Hallowed Order of Magical Enlightenment. Her problems are quadrupled when a valuable object is stolen right from under the Order's noses. It doesn't exactly help that she's been magically bound to Adeptus Exemptus Raphael Winter. He might have piercing sapphire eyes and a body which a cover model would be proud of but, as far as Ivy's concerned, he's a walking advertisement for the joyless perils of too much witch-work. And if he makes her go to the gym again, she's definitely going to turn him into a frog.

Just the wrong narrator. Why pick an American to read this. It's set in the UK and there are plenty of British narrator. Also poor editing. The chapters are cut off before the end.

Entertaining, and like others have said, the cat is the best part.

Very entertaining book. Jump right off with action. For those that do not like a lot a character development this book is for you. Those that do though don’t worry you pick it up in pieces along the way. The author paints an excellent picture for your imagination to latch onto. Throughly enjoyed the interplay between the main characters. Looking forward to listening to the next two books.

    Funny, clever, heartwarming read.
Brutus the cat is hilarious. Ivy is a woman after my own heat. Winter is the guy my heart would tots drool for while my brain would fight with just for the challenge he would bring.
    Yup I loved this book!

    Always love Helen Harper!

The best part of this book has to be the cat, though.

A case of mistaken identity results in Ivy Wilde, the world's most indolent witch, being partnered with Raphael Winter, the very staid yet oh-so sexy investigator for the Holy Order of Magical Enlightenment. When a magical artifact is stolen from the Order's library, Ivy and Winter must overcome their differences to uncover a conspiracy with the potential to bring down the Order.

This is a surprisingly delightful read.

The heroine's laid-back charm and irreverent attitude are a perfect counter-balance for the hero's stoic seriousness. Their opposites-attract chemistry and snarky banter is reminiscent of some of the most iconic investigative partnerships - Mulder and Scully, Steed and Peel, Rogan and Nevada.

While the case itself is secondary to the characterization, it does have some intense and action-packed moments. The world building is an interesting mix of the Wizarding World meets the Dresden Files with magical herbs, spells, artifacts and bureaucrats.

Tanya Eby's narration of the audiobook is entertaining although it is strange that her voice for Ivy has an American accent when the book is set in the UK and all of the other characters have English accents.

All in all, an engaging beginning to the series and I look forward to more of Ivy and Rafe's adventures in witchcraft.

I love Ivy Wilde, she is a woman I want to date. Come home from work, heat something up and plop down on the couch. She's the Bill & Ted of witches, and if you liked the movie Bill & Ted you'll probably enjoy this book.

Trashy, basic, predictable? Yeah, so what. I loved it anyway. Love the writing. Great vacation books.

The writing wasn't very good, but the story was so much fun that I didn't mind. And I almost bumped it up to four stars on the basis of the last paragraph alone, it was so perfectly placed. I'll be picking up the sequel for sure.

Just good fun. One could wish that the cover art matched the heroine's weight a little better, but such is life. The snark was great, and a heroine who unabashedly would rather cuddle on the couch and watch TV is a fun novelty.

    5 magic (and lazy) stars

After reading Wraith from the same author and absolutely adoring the stand-alone but wishing it was a series, I decided to go for a series from Helen Harper and boy was I not so happy of my choice!

Ivy is one of my favourite main characters of all times and it is certainly due to the fact that I identify to her so much as a fellow couch potato myself. But that's not all, no siree! She is brilliant and sassy, she made me laugh, which is what I'm often looking for in a novel. She perfectly knows where she stands, what she's willing to do and what she's capable of, which includes all her qualities as well as her faults. She's multidimensional and just so relatable that I just couldn't stop reading.

I read reviews stating the plot was meh, but I disagree as I found it rather well thought and quite entertaining. Sure, there are a few things I expected, but it turned out differently from what I thought, there are multiple things also happening at the same time and plenty of characters to follow, just enough to get to know them and remember who they are and not too many as to get completely lost. These characters are also all really realistic, and I'm in love with Iqbal and hate Tarquin so much I just totally get Ivy's pov. I like that we discover other sides of Raphael along with Ivy, to see him evolve a bit but not brutally change all of a sudden.
And let's not forget Brutus. Damn if that cat literally got my tongue in the last few pages!

It's urban fantasy, which is a genre I really love, especially when it involves witches. Those ones can use herbs and runes but that's about where the difference with mere humans stops so, while it is truly urban fantasy, it isn't that far from the world as we know it as other books.

Last but not least, the entire epilogue is from Winter's pov and that couldn't have made me happier, promise. I love dual pov stories so a bit more would have been great as well but, as I said, Ivy is kind of my hero so the way it's done is just the kind I love.

All in all, just a brilliant way to start a series, I would more than definitely recommend this book!

An adventure starting with a mistaken identity. What could possibly go wrong, when their personalities come out to play? And their personalities do come out to play. Ivy doesn’t want anything to do with the Order. But she received the binding spell instead of another witch (who happens lives in the same apartment building), then feel the wrath of her sarcasm. Bring on Brutus the talking feline familiar to Ivy.

The title grabbed me, the description held on, and the book kept me entertained all the way through. The main character and the man she's forced to partner with (magical mixup, oops) have that "I hate you--You're so hot" thing happening and I like that. It's got a style of magic I haven't seen used often before and never in this particular way. The mystery was a little too easily solved (for people who read a lot of mysteries) but the motives behind it and the eventual reveal were funny and a great contrast to the usual save the world urban fantasy plot. This would be a good Summer read, I recommend it for that.

Slouch WitchThe Lazy Girl's Guide to Magic, Book 1By: Helen HarperNarrated by: Tanya EbyWhat a hoot! This book is so funny! This is a must read for anyone that wants a good laugh and listen to a good story. Ivy is a witch but she is too smart for her own good. She is lazy and so she uses her 'smarts' to help her laziness. She is also a taxi driver and uses her magic to cope with unruly passengers. All is well until she is accidentally bond to an attractive Agent from the Order of Magic. She has to stay with him until she can figure out a way to unbind the spell, or 100 days. He likes exercise, order, and everything she doesn't. It is so funny! I giggled all the way through it! So fun!The narrator is fabulous! She is just what you would think Ivy would be and all the other characters! She is perfect! I can't say enough positive things about the narration of this book! Just perfect!

One thing I like about audio books is I can try out authors without the purchase commitment. This author loses me early. The book starts with a tired cliché of someone having been kicked out of the major magic organization and doing fine without it. Being lazy is just ... well, lazy writing. The main character drives a cab. But she's also mouthy, stubborn, whiny, and lazy. Her co-lead is pompous, arrogant, and just as much annoying. Sadly, there isn't a lot of characterization beyond this.Even with as even tempered as I am, I'd have smacked both main characters. The plot meandered a lot within the confines of what it wanted to do, or it seemed to. It made things difficult to see where the story was going. Okay, so you have a stolen jeweled scepter that never leaves the building, but is set up as a trap in the sewer. You have a witch sent out on assignment, only to have two other witches break into her place so they could track her. And you have a third witch who's a slimy speck of a human being trying to rise the ranks with any trick possible. You have a murdered witch. that may or may not be linked to the previous plots. None of which makes sense to have together in one book.I pushed to the end, was notably surprised when the culprits turned out to be ones I didn't expect. The characters, however, didn't ingratiate me to their sides. So I'm afraid this book goes into the "nope" category of continuing the series.

That was deliciously fun!*I love a girl who is not apologetic of who she is. I love that Ivy was herself: charming, clever, bubbly, confident, and self-possessed.*I like a man who's alpha but not alpha. Straight-laced and serious and brooding and bossy but not dominating and harsh. He steps back and is confident and trusts the lady to kick some ass.

The Lazy Girls Guide to Magic series is the third from this author that I have read and I am now convinced that I need to check out her backlist because I have enjoyed every story so far.SLOUCH WITCH was a fun read. Ivy is HILARIOUS and her familiar Brutus made me bust out laughing quite a few times as well. Sure she could be a little lazy, but I could totally relate and get on board with her way of thinking. The slow burning romance in SLOUCH WITCH was entertaining and dreamy at the same time. I really loved how Winter 'got' Ivy and vise versa. I'm so glad I found this series after the first two books were out and was able to jump right into book two. Better yet, book three was released before I was done with STAR WITCH. If you're looking for a light and fun urban fantasy story with a little romance, you will want to pick SLOUCH WITCH up.
