About this audiobook

"A stunning debut novel." —Michiko Kakutani, The New York Times

This celebrated, unforgettable first novel ("A bright, big-hearted demonstration of female spirit." –The Guardian), shortlisted for the prestigious Bailey's Prize and set in Nigeria, gives voice to both husband and wife as they tell the story of their marriage--and the forces that threaten to tear it apart.

Yejide and Akin have been married since they met and fell in love at university. Though many expected Akin to take several wives, he and Yejide have always agreed: polygamy is not for them. But four years into their marriage--after consulting fertility doctors and healers, trying strange teas and unlikely cures--Yejide is still not pregnant. She assumes she still has time--until her family arrives on her doorstep with a young woman they introduce as Akin's second wife. Furious, shocked, and livid with jealousy, Yejide knows the only way to save her marriage is to get pregnant. Which, finally, she does--but at a cost far greater than she could have dared to imagine. An electrifying novel of enormous emotional power, Stay With Me asks how much we can sacrifice for the sake of family.

I am in love with this author’s sophisticated writing style! She is amazing storyteller and the narrator really brings it to life!

The book itself is great. But I'm increasingly getting irritated with how someone with a full American accent is narrating a Nigerian based novel. It doesnt give the full experience and its painful to listen to. Same thing when i listened to Chimamanda books.

Extremely well written. I loved getting to know more about Nigeria through a personal story. The characters are not really likeable but I was very much able to empathize even as they made catastrophically bad decisions. The individual voices of characters were extremely well crafted. I will be watching for more books by this author in the future. The narrator is five stars.

I went into this book knowing nothing about it and that worked in its favor. I enjoyed the writing, characters and story. There were some surprises that I wasn't expecting which is always impresses me as a reader. Recommend for those who enjoy literary fiction and those trying to broaden their reading horizons beyond white/male/American stories and writers.

A complex Nigerian story traversing universal human emotions: motherhood & loss, love & shame, hope & fear, joy and pain. The storytelling will keep you on your toes, and the ending will make you weep. Worth a read!

This should be on any bestseller list! He took us on a personal journey that wrecked and startled us; yet we learned culture and Nigerian politics along the way. Yejide and Akin so deserved the ending they got...

Absolutely amazing! It was amazing reading the different points of views of the main characters. It helped create sympathy and understanding for why the characters did what they did. Once I started listening, I did not want to stop. The author has a great way with words and has created a beautiful story about love. I look forward to reading many more books from her!
