About this audiobook

The explosive new thriller from New York Times-bestselling author and master of the medical thriller Robin Cook.

Newly minted chief resident at Boston Memorial Hospital Noah Rothauser is swamped in his new position, from managing the surgical schedules to dealing with the fallouts from patient deaths. Known for its medical advances, the famed teaching hospital has fitted several ORs as "hybrid operating rooms of the future"-an improvement that seems positive until an anesthesia error during a routine procedure results in the death of an otherwise healthy man. Noah suspects Dr. William Mason, an egotistical, world-class surgeon, of an error during the operation and of tampering with the patient's record afterward. But Mason is quick to blame anesthesiologist, Dr. Ava London.

When more anesthesia-related deaths start to occur, Noah is forced to question all of the residents on his staff, including Ava, and he quickly realizes there's more to her than what he sees. A social-media junkie, Ava has created multiple alternate personas for herself on the Internet. With his own job and credibility now in jeopardy, Noah must decide which doctor is at fault and who he can believe-before any more lives are lost.

Ohhhhhh dear!!! I was sooooo hoping I would be rewarded with an ending that would give solutions to the incredible problems presented in Cook's latest novel, and that are part of our current society---the social connections that can be so disconnected from reality---eg., Facebook, etc. What a book!! I, for one, could not guess how this was going to turn out but I'll admit that Noah ---was a shock. And what IS next beyond the ending? Too close to our real world, unfortunately.

Robin Cook at his best twisting a page turning plot with the mixture of medicine and things not being as they appear. I could not put this down. He makes a case for changes in training of doctors with the real rising cost of medicine. Maybe it is not really fiction...... While all Robin Cook fans would enjoy this, I think my friends in healthcare would get a real jolt from this.

This is a good medical thriller. It kept me engaged all the way until the end. Yet, I was majorly frustrated with Dr. Noah. He may be smart and a good doctor but when it came to people, he was not a good judge of character. Yes, Dr. Mason may have been egotistical and not a very likable man himself but he did bring up many valid points. Ones that Dr. Noah did not give any thought to when it came to Ava. Speaking of Ava; I thought she was not that great of a con artist. Yet, it goes to show that "lust" can make people blind to the truth. It was sad and unfortunate that several innocent people had to lose their lives in the process. When it came to the ending, it was fine. At this point I had come to expect the ending. While, this was a good read, I just wished that there was a dash more "intensity". Although, I do look forward to seeing what the author comes out with next.

There was plenty of intruigue, but the ending is disappointing and unrealistic. The guilty go unpunished, the hardest workers are all flawed in some way. obviously the author having studied medicine ,wants to point out its numerous flaws. I often think what he says, "Medicine is more art than science." is a clear reflection of his own disillusionment with the profession. Noah and Ava made great characters and doctor Mason an equally great antagonist. This is not Cook's best work. Many others were immensely better. Especially liked the ending of Crisis.
