About this audiobook
All she wanted was the truth, but she’ll wish she never found out.
When Catherine wakes up alone one morning, she thinks her husband has gone for a run before work. But Simon never makes it to the office. His running shoes are by the front door. Nothing is missing—except him.
Catherine knows Simon must be in trouble. He wouldn’t just leave her. He wouldn’t leave the children.
But Simon knows the truth—about why he left and what he’s done. He knows things about his marriage that it would kill Catherine to find out. The memories she holds onto are lies.
While Catherine faces a dark new reality at home, Simon’s halfway around the world, alive and thriving. He’s doing whatever it takes to stay one step ahead of the truth.
But he can’t hide forever, and when he reappears twenty-five years later, Catherine will finally learn who he is.
And wish she’d stayed in the dark.
Revised edition: Previously published as The Wronged Sons, this edition of When You Disappeared includes editorial revisions.

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5It was slow to start, though it had the element of suspense. Where did Simon go? It would go forward 25 years, then back, then forward again. The plot felt like a candle burning at both ends until the middle became the end. Who's Billy? They mentioned a Billy many times, and I just HAD to know who Billy was! Once I found out, wowwwww, my jaw dropped to my stomach. This was a good thriller. Not as good as John Marrs' book "The One," but still good. I gave it 4 stars out of 5 only because it was slow starting, and I struggled to get into it. But I'm glad I kept reading because it finally snowballed into this crazy plot.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I absolutely recommend this book 100 times over. It was not in my usual “crime thriller” theme but I thought I’d give it a listen, so glad I did. The characters were interesting and unravel their history stemming from a disappearance. Told in reverse, it never lacks or disappoints while unfolding the events that led the characters to this point. Highly recommend!!!

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5The twists at the end were jaw dropping . Just when I thought I had it figured out the author let's you know otherwise . Where are all the great stories like this one hiding ?
DO NOT PASS THIS BOOK UP .1 person found this helpful
- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5This book was awful. Horrible, unlikable character and twist was stupid; not worth slogging through the whole book to get to. Very hollow, unrewarding, and unenjoyable. I wish I’d stopped reading sooner.

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I really enjoyed this book. It was not what I expected. A beautifully sad story of miscommunication gone horribly wrong in a marriage with a very dark edge.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Very good story. Enjoyed listening because the narrators did a great job!
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/52.5, average thriller, loved it but also some parts i found myself saying ‘oh of course, yh that would happen’. as if things were happening just for the plot instead of it being a realistic kind of story… maybe just too much happened idk. still enjoyed it tho and loved the twists
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Amazingly written and hard to put down. Just spectacular! Wow, what a male protagonist!
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Wow! I couldn't stop listening to this! I feel like I knew those characters by the end.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I really struggled to get into this, having very much enjoyed What Lies Between Us. It seemed to take an age to get going and I got confused by the time jumps (which I usually don’t). I also struggle with this particular male narrator and can’t usually listen to his recordings, in particular when he does female voices, so that didn’t help. At first I thought that was what made me dislike Simon, but from early on it became obvious that the character was just odious. The literary classic narcissist who makes every single thing about them and can justify any misdeed… Catherine was a beautiful and strong character and the opposite of everything Simon represented. I’m glad I stayed with it and even though I had a feeling, nothing could prepare me for the final revelation. Looking forward to another John Marrs before too long.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Excellent , Author is detailed and twists 2 stories of life , defiantly don't miss this book
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5A fantastic read, full of twist and turns. The characters evoked emotion and I was curious until the last words.
- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5Omg. I should have listened to everyone that warned about the most hate-able character and the SLOWNESS of this story. SO much filler in the middle and the payoff was honestly just saddening and maddening but not in a way I enjoyed! John Marrs’ The One was my favorite read of 2021 so I was excited about this one but it def didn’t hit the mark for me :(
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I enjoyed it .. i never saw this ending !
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Another great. John Marrs did not disappoint! Kept me guessing..
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Loved it but didn’t like ending. I wanted more. Ugh lol
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Honestly this was my first book by him and I felt disappointed and I thought it was super slow and kinda boring. I wanted to DNF the book but pushed thru. I'm glad kitty found happiness in the end.

?? ????????
This is a very, very slllllow read. When Simon disappears without a trace, Catherine comes to learn that she never really knew the man she married. Flash forward 25 years, Simon has returned determined to punish Catherine for her wrongs. The two share with one another what happened over the course of their time apart, and buried secrets begin to emerge.
The whole time in a dual dialogue of Catherine & Simon back and forth going on about the lives they led without one another and Simon coming back to explain why he left. You'd think you would be on the edge of your seat the whole time. But no. It was dull and at times boring.
All I wanted to know was why Simon left?! Little clues come here and there. But as I listened more and more nothing was happening and I grew frustrated. Once Simon finally told Catherine his reason for leaving, I wanted throw my phone across the room! Not because of why he did what he did (which was just stupid) but because I had to wait so long to find out!
All in all this is a very 'character based' book and I know I'm more of a plot-based seeker over both of those types, so I can't say why I even tried this one. 3/5 because the author does write great books, this just was a hit and miss for me. - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5An exceptional work. Readers are perfect. Full of twists and turns. Very complex. Believable.
- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5This is SO hard for me to rate, I found this to be a bit boring! And I don't know if it's because of the audiobook? I finished it because I wanted to know what ACTUALLY happend
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Time goes by quickly while I listened to that story when hours actually had gone by.
- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5Riddled with cliches and a told through a deeply patriarchal lens that tries to pretend it’s not — complete with a manic pixie dream prostitute and every gender stereotype you can imagine. Seriously gross. Hated it.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Why write a book about such an odious, selfish character? He didn't have one redeeming feature. Did read it to the end tho, it had an interesting framework.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Great book, kept me intrigued until the end, interesting characters
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5It was well written but I thought it was more contemporary drama than thriller. Narrators were great.
- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5Couldn’t even make it one minute into the book because of the awful narration of the male character
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Wow. Words can’t describe this ending, or the anger I felt for the protagonist
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5I would say a 3.5
The story line is really weird but it is well written. I just couldn’t relate to many things
Talks about a husband that disappears and leaves his whole family willingly
The ending too is was just meh, i for bored at the last few chapters. - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I really liked this book! I’d recommend :) :) :)
