      There is bad blood between two estranged brothers, and when one returns after a long absence, the whole town is interested to see what will happen. Interests peak when one brother is found murdered. His granddaughter is devastated, and Kathleen feels she must get involved to prove her friend - the deceased man’s son - had nothing to do with his murder. You can be sure that Kathleen will need help from her magical cats to keep herself out of harm’s way. This is another great installment in this entertaining series. Well written with cat characters who steal the show from their human counterparts, these stories will capture the interest of cozy readers as well as cat lovers.

      A solid mystery in a solid series. Nothing spectacular but a setting and characters you can lose yourself in and amongst for a quick read when you're looking for a light mystery that's rife with strong friendships and small town charm. The mystery plotting is solid, or maybe I wasn't paying close enough attention; in retrospect I should have seen straight away what went over my head while I was reading. Oddly, though I (of course) really like the cats, Owen and Hercules, I find myself more enchanted by their everyday cat antics (Owen's love for Fred the Funky Chicken catnip treats and his hatred of Barry Manilow music, for example), than any of their magical feats. I don't think cats need the supernatural leg up to make them the stars, although I do wish Kelly would delve more into their origins and what's going on at Wisteria Hill.

      This series and this book in particular is a lot of fun, it was just released this week and I haven't heard of another book coming but I sure hope that the series hasn't ended, I love the characters and I'd like to see more books in the future. The book has a bonus short story so that alone is good news!

      Kathleen Paulson’s two cats, Hercules and Owen, are very unusual and indispensable at times. They help her solve murder cases in their own unique way. So it is no surprise that she needs their help whether she asked for it or not to solve the latest murder.

      Mayville Heights is filled with gossip and curious stares 3when the Janes brothers, Leo and Victor, are both back home after a long time away. Gossip rolls through the small town and Victor Janes is smack in the middle of it, again. Having stolen his brother's wife and destroyed his family, Victor has come home to make amends, or has he?

      Are the brothers really trying to reconcile or is there something more sinister at the heart of the unexpected homecoming? When Kathleen finds Leo dead, she wonders who other than Victor would want Leo dead. Perhaps he wasn’t the great guy everyone thought he was. Her police boyfriend believes Leo’s son is to blame and sets out to prove it. Kathleen isn’t so sure he is guilty, so she aims to prove he isn't, one way or another.

      The most memorable characters really are the cats, Owen and Hercules. They are highly intelligent and magical cats that can walk through walls, or disappear in the blink of an eye. Kathleen as well as her Detective boyfriend, Marcus is very well written and fun to learn about. The story of Victor and Leo is compelling with just enough of reality that makes you care about them and how their lives have gone.

      Mia, Simon’s daughter, and Leo’s granddaughter is a well-rounded character that develops into a lovely young woman whose heart is broken by the unexpected and violent death of her beloved grandfather. She puts a brave face on but is still young enough to break down every once in awhile. Mia tugs at the heartstrings of the reader. Her loss and pain are real, and Ms. Kelly has created a character that the reader will want a happy ending for her.

      The story is well written and flows naturally. There enough hints to the killer's identity that a reader can figure out the who did it, but not too soon in the story. Readers will continue to turn pages and become immersed in the story. It is fast-paced without sacrificing details and entertaining. This book can stand on its own as a solo cozy but fits in well with the entire series.

      This book will appeal to anyone who enjoys a light-hearted mystery with no sex or actual violence and cats that are very unusual. It is highly recommended.

      A Tale of Two Kitties is a fun, unique, interesting and all around good cozy mystery.Hercules and Owen are cats with magical abilities that help them to help Kathleen in solving crimes. I laughed at how they are typical cats with being persnickety and moody. They are a big help to Kathleen when she has to solve a murder and prove her friends innocence. With her cats help will she be able to and find the real murderer?This book has all the right ingredients for a wonderful read. For me since I had not ready any of the other books in the series, it took me a little bit to be drawn into the book. Once I did though I couldn't put it down. I like a good puzzle with unpredictable outcomes and that fits this book. I really got a kick out of the interactions between the cats, Hercules and Owen and others. This is a mystery for people who love cats, a good puzzling mystery with interesting characters and a little bit of magic. It shows how sometimes our past still finds away to effect our present. It is a good fun book.I recieved this book for my honest opinion and review.

      This was a rather innocuous and ultimately forgettable cozy mystery. The bad guy was pretty obvious from the beginning and the cats were only minor players in the solving of the murder.

      A Tale of Two Kitties by Sofie Kelly is the ninth mystery in A Magical Cats Mystery series. Kathleen Paulson is a librarian in Mayville Heights, Minnesota and owns (well, as much as you can own a cat) two special cats named Owen and Hercules. When remodeling a local post office, undelivered mail and photos were discovered. The library has agreed to take possession of the photos. Kathleen wants to find a way to identify the people in the photos and get them in the hands of family. Twin brothers, Victor and Leo Janes have returned to town for Thanksgiving and the gossip mill is buzzing. People remember that Victor had an affair with Leo’s wife. Unfortunately, Meredith died in a car accident shortly afterward. This is a chance for a reconciliation between the two men. Mia Janes, a library student intern, is tickled to have her grandfather in town. Kathleen drives Mia to visit Leo one day after work and Kathleen notices the apartment door ajar. She goes inside to find Leo dead from obvious blunt force trauma. The police soon narrow their sights on Simon Janes, Leo’s son and Kathleen’s friend, when they discover he an argument with Leo and lacks an alibi. Kathleen with the aid of her two magical sidekicks, Owen and Hercules, delves into the case intent on tracking down Leo’s killer. Come visit Mayville Heights and help Kathleen solve her latest case in A Tale of Two Kitties.A Tale of Two Kitties has good writing, but the pace is a little slow. There are nice, relatable characters and a charming small-town setting. Kathleen is a great character who has a wonderful job—a librarian! I enjoy her interactions with her fur babies. A Tale of Two Kitties contains an extra amount of cozy. There is socializing, meals, work at the library, romance, the cat’s antics, the found photographs and mail, plus much more. I wish the author had not devoted so much time to the lost (and now found) photographs and mail. It seemed to dominate the story. The mystery was interesting and I liked how it was structured (containing several different components that all fit together). The author included some good clues which will aid readers in solving the crime (plus the suspect list is very small). My rating for A Tale of Two Kitties is 4 out of 5 stars. A Tale of Two Kitties is a cute story and I delighted in the paranormal element. The magical cats are adorable and entertaining (especially Owen with his funky chickens). If you have not read any of the previous A Magical Cat Mystery novels, you will be a little lost (since there are so many secondary characters) in the beginning and it might hinder readers in solving the crime. A Tale of Two Kitties is a charming cozy mystery that will delight readers.

      Kathleen Paulson is head librarian at a small town in Minnesota. She has two cats - Owen and Hercules - with a little magic in them. Not only can Hercules walk through walls and Owen make himself invisible at will, they understand what their human (and others) is saying, and help her solve crimes.The grandfather of one of her employees, Mia, has arrived in Mayville Heights for Thanksgiving. While Mia is excited to see her grandpa, she's not as happy to find out her Grandpa Leo has asked his twin brother Victor to come as well. The reason she's not happy is apparent to anyone who knew them back when...as in back when Victor ran off with Leo's wife, depriving Leo's son Simon of a mother and eventually Mia of a grandmother she would never know. But the tale gets sadder when shortly after leaving Leo's wife Meredith died in a car accident.Now Leo is dead; murdered. And with suspects aplenty, and the police thinking it had to be Simon, Kathleen takes it upon herself to find out who really killed Leo, and why. But can she catch a killer before the police convict the wrong man and throw away the key?...I love mysteries, and I love mysteries that have animals, especially cats. This one was no different. Kathleen's two magical kitties are indeed endearing; Hercules is quieter and Owen is feisty, but both do their part to help her any way they can. While no one else is aware of their abilities, she depends on them for advice, and they never let her down.The book had a very nice plot, and I enjoyed watching as Kathleen sifted through suspects one by one. But unfortunately, I kept getting sidetracked by subplots that had absolutely nothing to do with the murder,. (Marcus and Eddie going to Minneapolis, for one). It's a quirk of mine, but I really don't care for subplots unless they actually connect to the main plot somehow - for example, if when Marcus returned he mentioned something the person they were going to see had said something - but no, nothing except to give Kathleen more time to investigate without police presence.Aside from that, there were enough red herrings thrown in and enough suspects thrown around to confuse matters, and that's what a mystery is all about. In the end, when we learn the identity of the killer and the reasons why, we knew there was no other way it could have ended; and that's what a mystery is all about. Recommended.

      A Tale of Two Kitties by Sofie Kelly is the ninth book in the A Magical Cats Mystery series. When Kathleen finds Mia's grandfather dead, she and her magical cats, Owen and Hercules, have to find out who the killer is before Simon, her good friend and father to Mia, is arrested for the crime.I had a hard time getting through this book. It was very slow paced, and the writing was choppy. There was far too much description. How someone holds their arms, or tilts their head does not add any value or depth to the story. It became very mundane. The story was very predictable from the start. I received this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

      Small-town librarian Kathleen solves mysteries with the help of her two highly intelligent cats, Owen (who can become invisible) and Hercules (who can walk through walls); the premise sounds too twee for words, but it actually works.In this ninth in the series, a former resident returns to town shortly after a cache of old letters and photos are found stashed inside the post office wall. When he is killed, Kathleen pokes into the case because of her friendship with the old man's granddaughter, aided by hints from the cats, and by her friendship with a wide range of locals, including her detective boyfriend.The bonus story at the end is slight but enjoyable, as well.Charming as always.
