About this audiobook

After being dumped by his long-term boyfriend for being overweight, Henry Beckett decides to make some drastic changes. In a vain attempt at getting his boyfriend back, Henry does the most absurdly frightening thing he can think of.

He joins a gym.

Reed Henske is a personal trainer who isn't sure he'll ever be ready to date again. He's sick of guys who are only interested in the perfect body image, never seeing him for who he really is.

As Reed tortures Henry with things like diet and exercise, Henry enamors Reed with recipes and laughter. As the friendship lines start to blur, Henry is convinced there's no way Thor-like Reed could ever be interested in a guy like him.

Reed just has to convince Henry that life isn't about reaching your ideal bodyweight. It's about finding your perfect counterweight.

Contains mature themes.

Some readers collect book boyfriends, while your girl collects book best friends. And the newest addition to that club is Henry Beckett from The Weight of It All by author N.R. Walker. I was suffering through a weeks-long book funk, and this story rescued me. Henry and Reed’s story consumed me, and this was some of the most fun I’ve had with a book in a while.

Walker presents real issues in an engaging way, touching on self-esteem and body issues that almost anyone, man, woman, straight, gay, and anyone in between, can really relate to. She tackles these through the lens of Henry and Reed, and I love the fact that she impresses upon us that fat or fit, no one is immune to this problem.

Henry is laugh-out-loud funny, has no filter, and I think we would make great friends. His journey of self-acceptance and love was a pure joy to read. Well, listen to. I adored his interactions with Reed, as well as his circle of friends. I can’t get enough of him. He needs his own web series or podcast or something so I can keep up with him!

N.R. Walker tells a sweet and swoony story, a slow burn romance that left me warm and fuzzy. Her storytelling is wonderful; I never felt like I was being told a story. Instead, I felt like I was experiencing everything right alongside Henry.

Joel Leslie’s narration is once again top-notch. I would listen to him narrate the copier manual at my office, I swear. (I’d probably finally learn how to work the stapling function) He’s incredibly expressive and delivers such an immersive audiobook experience; I’d be hard-pressed to find someone who tells a story better.

If you’re a fan of m/m romance, a fan of true-to-life stories that will warm your heart, I can’t recommend this book highly enough.

When the story starts Henry is at rock bottom in his personal life. He has gained a lot of weight over the years and his boyfriend has broken up with him citing his weight and age- talk about hitting a guy where it hurts the most. He decides to join a gym and there he meets Reed a personal trainer who changes his life forever. He learns that yes it is good to work out for one's own health and well-being but not in order to win back a lover who jilted you.
In Reed he gains a much more good looking and caring partner than Graham ever was.
There were a few life lessons in the story, lessons about body image, self esteem, unconditional love and about friendship
It was also hilarious- Henry was quite the amateur comedian!! The first thing that attracted Reed to Henry was his sense of humour. Great story!!

Mr. Leslie was PERFECT in his portrayal of both characters!

This is my review of the ebook...which hasn't changed, so I'm posting here.

Honestly, I don’t think this story would have worked for me any other way. I really didn’t want this to be a story about a guy losing weight to get back his boyfriend only to fall in love with his trainer as he gets fitter and healthier. Now knowing Reed’s history, the story is just perfect for me.

Both guys are a bit shy and awkward…Henry is a bit more so than Reed. Henry is entertaining as hell as is Anika (Henry’s best friend) and Melinda (Henry’s PA). I loved the transformation in Henry and that he realized he was getting healthier for himself, not anyone else. I loved watching their relationship developed and appreciated that the small bit of angst (I’m not really even sure you can call it that) was resolved quickly and without mis/non-communication.

    THE EPILOGUE WAS PERFECT.

Definitely another winner from Ms. Walker!

Adorable. This is how you do a plus size main character, very realistic and relatable. Love story was adorable. This was a slower burn than their normal books and that was cute too. Definitely a feel good story.

Whoever would have thought anyone could even write a book about this subject, let alone actually sell it? If anyone can do it N R Walker would be the one. You can honestly feel Henry's heart breaking from the start of the story. Everywhere he looked in the house, he was reminded of the breakup.... the feeling of not being "good enough". But it came to him again and again by just looking in the mirror. I felt sorry for Henry for being faced with the reality that he had allowed his body to get away from him over the years. While Henry was coming to terms with this reality and actually thinking the word "gym" ...I was wondering why his "long term" boyfriend didn't, long before it came to this, care enough about him to sit down and talk about the weight before it became the main focus of their lives together. He obviously was in the relationship for how it benefited him and cared little or nothing about Henry...which in itself was heartbreaking. The gym was the best idea that Henry ever had because he met Reed, his new trainer. Reed is nothing like Henry had had in his life in like forever. Reed laughs at Henry's jokes...encourages him to work on himself... boosts his self-image and... above all, BELIEVES in him. Not surprisingly Henry starts to lose weight and feel more confident about his appearance. Reed and Henry build a solid relationship and they become good friends. It’s a slow story but covers a variety of pitfalls and successes that sometimes are not thought about or spoken by people trying to improve their images. The book does include some body shaming and other triggers that may affect some readers, but most will cheer for Henry.

Henry feels like he has hit rock bottom in his life. His boyfriend of eight years, Graham, has just dumped him because he thinks Henry is too old and fat and boring for him. Henry, who is 5'10" and 250 pounds, decides to join a gym in an attempt to get Graham back. There he meets Reed, a personal trainer who is determined to help Henry succeed in his weight loss goals. The two men form a fast friendship, but Henry just can't believe that a guy like him could get a guy like Reed (who looks like Chris Hemsworth apparently).I liked this book, but I didn't fall in love with it. I think that a lot of people can relate to Henry, who is overweight and doesn't feel attractive in his own body. Reed is just a little too perfect for my tastes, and I never felt like we got to know him all that well because Henry alone is the narrator. There's not a ton of angst in this book, although Henry is sad throughout portions of it. I laughed more than anything - Henry was pretty funny with his lack of filter - and it was a sweet romance, though not deep.
