About this audiobook

THE NATIONAL BESTSELLER AND A REESE WITHERSPOON'S HELLO SUNSHINE BOOK CLUB PICK

“Will keep you up. In a ‘can’t put it down’ way. It’s ‘The Talented Mr. Ripley’ with XX chromosomes.”—The Skimm

“Deliciously duplicitous. . . . equally as twisty, spellbinding, and addictive as Gillian Flynn’s Gone Girl or Paula Hawkins’s The Girl on the Train.”—Library Journal (starred review)

Amber Patterson is fed up. She’s tired of being a nobody: a plain, invisible woman who blends into the background. She deserves more—a life of money and power like the one blond-haired, blue-eyed goddess Daphne Parrish takes for granted.

To everyone in the exclusive town of Bishops Harbor, Connecticut, Daphne—a socialite and philanthropist—and her real-estate mogul husband, Jackson, are a couple straight out of a fairy tale.

Amber’s envy could eat her alive . . . if she didn't have a plan. Amber uses Daphne’s compassion and caring to insinuate herself into the family’s life—the first step in a meticulous scheme to undermine her. Before long, Amber is Daphne’s closest confidante, traveling to Europe with the Parrishes and their lovely young daughters, and growing closer to Jackson. But a skeleton from her past may undermine everything that Amber has worked towards, and if it is discovered, her well-laid plan may fall to pieces.

With shocking turns and dark secrets that will keep you guessing until the very end, The Last Mrs. Parrish is a fresh, juicy, and utterly addictive thriller from a diabolically imaginative talent.

Not much substance to the story.
One of the narrators was bad at narrating men’s voices. They sounded like whispery old men.

I can’t get past the first monotoned, flat narrator. She sounds like an automated narrator.

I was excited for this, but unfortunately, it just didn’t feel like a believable read/story.

Certainly held my interest even though it was sometimes predicable.

Unlikeable characters, cliched tropes, amateurish writing. Read it for a book club and was beyond underwhelmed.

I chose this book because it was a Reese’s pick. I was disappointed—her other picks have been quite satisfying. The storyline was trite and unimaginative—young gold digger sets her sights on a rich, married man. She befriends then betrays the wife, fat-shaming her in the process. Very predictable ending. I really wanted to like the book, but just couldn’t get past the cliched, almost cartoonish characters.

This book is great. A lot of twist and once you get to part 2 (with out giving to much you away) you start to understand why some characters are the way they are.
Will be buying a hard copy of this one.

Predictable but good. I even guessed what YMB means. Good read.

It is painfully slow. After I got halfway through it, I listened to the rest at 1.5 speed.

I really enjoyed the book up until the ending, I thought it was a little corny the way it played out.

None of the characters were well developed or likable. Poorly written dialogue

Plot holes kept it from feeling satisfying. Jackson’s character in particular is way too inconsistent. He background checks one person but not another? Etc. I kept waiting for a final twist beyond one I figured out before it was announced halfway into the read…but it didn’t come. A bit of a bummer

Went on much longer than needed. It was a good story but took too long!

I thought it was predictable and unrealistic. The dialog between the characters, especially Jackson’s part, seemed very unnatural and unlikely. Other parts didn’t make sense like the timing of when Amber broke up with Greg and that there were no surveillance cameras or security to catch Jackson even though no expense was spared otherwise. I thought the story of Jackson and Daphne could’ve been told better going from better times and then more events showing their marriage deteriorate into the violent relationship it became. It’s unlikely that someone would flip like a switch that quickly. It was okay, but it read like a soap opera being unrealistic.

This is such a well written book. It’s written from two different perspectives. The second perspective retells the story and your mind will be blown when you hear it from another perspective. The twists and turns keep coming. And at the end, revenge is so sweet!

Cliche and gratuitous. Characters unlikeable. There has to be some small reason to root for someone. That maybe comes, but not until 2/3 through the book, if you make it that long.

The first half of the book was very repetitive on the main character’s negative attitude. Telling over and over and over what a victim she was. The point was made the first few times. The second half was much more to the point without wasting the same words.

Horrible characters I loved hating. A perfect listen while gardening. I was so engrossed I was actually rolling my eyes at Amber’s smarminess.

This is the exact same plot as “the wife between us” but reads as though it were written by a fourteen year old.

Save yourself the time and just read the wife between us instead

Predictable and Extremely unlikeable characters. Selfish, greedy, no empathy. I finished it, but felt gross about the characters the whole time.

Gahhhh. It made me so angry reading it. I wish it would have given more on Amber’s background instead of the quick snippet at the end.
