About this audiobook

When South African conservationist Lawrence Anthony was asked to accept a herd of "rogue" wild elephants on his Thula Thula game reserve in Zululand, his common sense told him to refuse. But he was the herd's last chance of survival: they would be killed if he wouldn't take them.

In order to save their lives, Anthony took them in. In the years that followed he became a part of their family. And as he battled to create a bond with the elephants, he came to realize that they had a great deal to teach him about life, loyalty, and freedom.

The Elephant Whisperer is a heartwarming, exciting, funny, and sometimes sad account of Anthony's experiences with these huge yet sympathetic creatures. Set against the background of life on an African game reserve, with unforgettable characters and exotic wildlife, it is a delightful book that will appeal to animal lovers and adventurous souls everywhere.

What a wonderful audio book. What a great man Lawrence was. Truly a feel good story, with sadness along the way, but his undertaking was gratifying for him and the elephants. It makes me happy that someone cared enough to take on the task as it were. I could read or listen to this subject all the time. It’s wholesome and emotional awakening for your senses.

This an intriguing account of Lawrence Anthony's efforts to save a group of elephants from euthanization and poachers. I love that the title does not pertain to his ability to comunicate with elephants, but... instead, to what the author says the elephants "whispered" to him and taught him. I could also feel the passion and love the author had for the elephants despite the fact that I felt there were times that the story could have done with more backstory so that you could understand the whys and hows of certain things. That being said, I'm currently reading the wife's account of everything, An Elephant in My Kitchen, and she seems to be answering all the questions I had from this book. Still ,if you're not up for reading the other 2 books, I think you'll still find this story to be very intresting and eye opening to the world of elephant conservation.
