About this audiobook

Aaryn, son of Cupid and Psyche, is determined to follow in his father's footsteps. On the night of his first assignment, without first logging in to the high-tech compatibility database, he shoots a ballet prodigy named Karma. Aaryn realizes too late the other arrow in his pack is useless. He can't shoot Danny, Karma's date, which makes the enchantment tragically one-sided. In the year that follows, Karma's destiny is derailed. One pregnancy confirmed. One ballet scholarship lost. Karma doesn't know that her toxic relationship with Danny is Aaryn's fault - but he's going to get a chance to make it right. Banished to earth as a human, Aaryn is given an impossible task: get Danny to marry Karma, no arrows allowed. Back on Mount Olympus, a political war is brewing about love and the old ways. Are arrows becoming obsolete? Then, something happens that no one planned for. Aaryn falls in love with Karma, the spellbound girl who can never love him in return.

I received an audio copy of this book from the Early Reviewers program. I thought the audio was well done, I liked the inclusion of 2 narrators and the switching points of view during the story. In fact the inclusion of different points of view was probably my favorite part of the book, knowing what both main characters are thinking is always an added bonus in a novel. As for the story, it was ok, I didn't really find a connection with either main character. I thought Aaryn was a good character but I didn't love him and I found Karma to be a bit one note in her devotion to Danny. The addition of the mythology element was interesting but in my opinion it wasn't enough to elevate the book beyond just ordinary.

I received this audio book in a Early Reviewer giveaway. The story line was good but I wasn't crazy about this book. I like the whole idea of mixing in the Greek mythology, but I couldn't get past the slow pace or Karma's character. She was so whiny and stuck on Danny that it was annoying. I mean I get that she was shot with an arrow so didn't have any choice but to love him but man I wanted to smack her. This was just an ok book, probably not one I would have finished had I actually been reading it myself.

Aaryn, son of Eros, was sent to Earth to complete his finals. Two arrows, one for Karma and one for Danny, were supposed to make them fall endlessly and forever in love. One problem, Karma's arrow produced the right effect...Danny's arrow was a dud. Now, we have a love-sick girl in love with someone who treats her badly. The gods on Mount Olympus audit his work and find out that Aaryn made a big mistake. Before he is sent to blackout (where he will be forever a human, god-forbid), he is given the chance to make things right again and find a way to make Danny propose. It isn't as easy as it seems, especially when Aaryn falls in love with Karma. Arrows is one-part romance, one-part Greek mythology, and one-part love-torn triangle that somehow has to come together to change Aaryn, Karma, and Danny forever. A romantic offering that will have you rooting for love. Thank you to Recorded Books, LibraryThing Early Reviewers, and Melissa Gorzelznczyk for this ARC audio book.

This was a very painful read. To begin with, the author plays fast-and-loose mixing Greek & Roman mythology, and adding in her own gods as plot devices. Further, the novel centers around Karma, a high-school senior who is hopelessly in love with Danny, and the mother of his baby girl. The painful part is how she stays with him, making excuses for him, despite how horribly he treats her. The novel explains away her acceptance of this emotionally & nearly physically abusive treatment by telling us that she'd been shot by Cupid's arrow, but that Danny was not similarly shot, but the plot device doesn't work to make up for such a horrible example.

I rarely listen to audiobooks, so receiving this book in audio format was a welcome change. It's a different experience listening to a book being narrated as I'm used to reading a physical copy of a book. The story in itself is interesting, but the narrators did a great job in making the story come to life.Karma is hopelessly in love with Danny, even when Danny mistreats her and neglects his responsibilities as a father to their young child. She has sacrificed so much for Danny, including a dance scholarship, and yet Danny is unappreciative of everything she does. People around Karma doesn't understand why she doesn't just break-up with Danny. And the reason is Aaryn...Aaryn, the son of Cupid, was supposed to shoot Karma and Danny with a love arrow. However, there was a mishap and Karma ended up as the only one hit by the arrow. Now, Aaryn must correct his mistake, but what he didn't count on was his feelings for Karma. It's the classic "loving the one who doesn't love you" story with a twist. For the most part I felt sorry for Karma, but there are moments when she became irritating because she always let Danny off the hook. Danny is the clear antagonist in this story, but there are also other antagonists who will be revealed towards the end. I found Aaryn sweet, charming and amusing. I especially liked Aunt Juliet and Peyton, both are feisty characters. I also liked the references to Lana del Rey and Dirty Dancing. I enjoyed the story, especially the dialogues between Karma and Aaryn. I only wish there were more scenes in Mt. Olympus as I found that part really interesting. I was a bit confused about that final scene in Olympus that I had to rewind the CD in order to understand it. I liked how the story ended, but it needed more detail as some questions were left unanswered. There are some disturbing yet relevant themes here, such as abuse and underage drinking, that I wish were addressed more. But I think the author did a good job in presenting the difficulties of being a teen mom.All in all this is a sweet love story that is effectively narrated by Laura Knight Keating and Nick Cordero. Thank you to Recorded Books for sending me an audiobook copy of Arrows by Melissa Gorzelanczyk.

Arrows was chosen as my Book Club book this month. I was intrigued by the synopsis and I wasn't disappointed. The story was heartwarming and gripping and had me invested from the very first page. I love reading about mythology and legends, especially retold versions. This modern day cupid story was right up my alley. The characters were developed and you really felt you got to know them as the story wove on. I felt the frustration of Karma's friends as they watched her struggle in her relationship. I was angry and hurt along side Karma when things kept going wrong. And I was drawn in by Aaryn like everyone else seemed to be. The only bad thing I have to say is that perhaps the ending was a bit rushed and ends tied up a bit too neatly. But it was definitely a great story that I'd recommend to others.

At least once a year, I listen to an audiobook. They'll never be my favorite way to experience books, but they've been growing on me. ARROWS had the advantage of being a mere 6 and a half hours long. It took me a week of driving to listen to the whole story - but far better than one of those 24 hour audiobooks that would take me a month.ARROWS tells the story of Aaryn, son of Cupid and Psyche, and Karma, a human. (Great thing about listening: I didn't have to look at that spelling of Aaron for the entire book.) Aaryn was supposed to shoot a couple with arrows to become a cupid himself, but he accidentally misplaced one while busy with social media. The result: Karma is hopelessly in love with Danny, who takes her for granted (and worse). Aaryn has to get Danny to fall in love with her in return or be banished. The problem: No one would wish Danny on their worst enemy, much less a perfectly nice girl. Even worse, Karma got pregnant, and so him being a terrible father is also a factor.I preferred Laura Knight Keating's narration to Nick Cordero's, but I enjoyed the sections of the story through Aaryn's point of view more. (Cordero did grow on me.) The result of the arrow is just horrific. It's not like real love - Karma physically feels herself getting sick if she gets angry or upset with Danny. She can't even think ill of him when he hurts her. It was hard to hear her continually stuck in that rut. Aaryn, meanwhile, gets to be more dynamic and realize how broken the system he dreamed of becoming a part of is.Remember the 6 and a half hours running time? ARROWS is a short novel. That can be an advantage, and I don't think there was more story to explore. (Except maybe any sort of explanation for why Karma, a serious dancer, never seems to have considered an abortion. She clearly didn't keep Nell to make Danny happy.) But I felt like what was there spent too much time spinning its wheels and that the climax played out too quickly. In ten minutes, everything gets resolved. I was also bothered that Karma seems to overcome her cursed love for Danny more for Aaryn than herself.Listening to ARROWS livened up my commute, but I think I found it more disturbing than it was meant to be. I might, however, look for more novels narrated by Laura Knight Keating.

Upon receiving the audio version of Arrows from the Early Reviewers program, I was very pleased with the narration of Laura Knight Keating and Nick Cordero. The short chapters of alternating points of view between Karma and Aaryn are read with clarity and excellent pacing making it easy to comprehend. Yes, a mistake was made with the dud arrow, but don't you make a mistake by not giving the audio version chance.
