- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5This is the one where they chase their parent's McGuffin's. Again, some bits with huge promise (like the club of children on the Isle of the Lost only pretending to be against them, and secretly being in favour of Heros, and the whole 'maybe Mal's mother is escaping and attacking people' plot was great, until the weak ending) but sigh, I have no interest in Ben and his committee meetings and border squabbles.

- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5In a prologue, the reader learns that Mal, Evie, Jay and Carlos, the children of Maleficent, Snow White’s Evil Queen, Jafar and Cruella de Vil, have been sent to the kingdom of Auradon to learn how to be good. They are happy in school making friends, joining clubs and playing sports when they start to receive strange messages telling them to return to the Isle of the Lost. They suspect their horrible parents are behind the messages, so the four kids decide that they have to return to figure out what's going on.
I love how much the main four characters have evolved from troublemakers to good kids and how they use their talents to fight evil. Each one of these characters has their own unique personality. It's also nice to see the kids of other famous Disney characters have some exposure, and it hints at big things for future adventures.
I thought it was a cute book filled with action and totally appropriate for pre-teens or any Disney fan. - Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5I expected better out of the sophomore effort. This is too much like the last one, maybe even a little worse because of that. The first third is spend tooling around the school, doing NOTHING. It's even more cutesy than the Wicked World shorts, and spends too much time dwelling on things the audience already knows (no one is going to read a Descendants novel without knowing the Descendants universe). Then another third tooling around the isle. And the last third is the SAME four quests, one for each character. It doesn't even expand new characters. The deus ex magicka is overplayed. There are plot threads that were super out-of-character (if they don't drop away into irrelevancy/forgetfulness), like Yen Sid being a Dumbledore wizard instead of a Samuel L. Jackson don't-fuck-with-my-hat motherfucker. The "twist" is viewable from a mile away. I have a bad feeling I won't be able to complete the third one.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This book was great. I liked how it took place in both Auradon and the Isle of the Lost. It even briefly explored other places like Camelot, Neverland, and Charmington Cove (where Cinderella lives). There were some new characters as well as characters from the movie. Also Ben had a larger role in this book than he did in the previous one. I enjoyed the plot and the quest and everything fit together nicely. The ending sets up a new movie and/or book perfectly. I can’t wait to find out what happens next. Overall, a solid book in the Descendants franchise.
