About this audiobook

From the bestselling author of Swindle and Ungifted comes the funny, fantastic story of an underachiever who ends up achieving much more than any overachiever could ever imagine.

Cameron Boxer is very happy to spend his life avoiding homework, hanging out with his friends, and gaming for hours in his basement. It's not too hard for him to get away with it … until he gets so caught up in one game that he almost lets his house burn down around him.

Oops.

It's time for some serious damage control—so Cameron and his friends invent a fake school club that will make it seem like they're doing good deeds instead of slacking off. The problem? Some kids think the club is real—and Cameron is stuck being president.

Soon Cameron is part of a mission to save a beaver named Elvis from certain extinction. Along the way, he makes some new friends—and some powerful new enemies. The guy who never cared about anything is now at the center of everything … and it's going to take all his slacker skills to win this round.

8th grader Cam Boxer has ambition- to win the Rule the World video game tournament; anything else is interference for his lifestyle. When he disregards his mother's instructions and the house almost burns down while he's playing, the law is laid down for Cam to get another activity. He and his creative friends come up with the perfect plan to make a fictitious service club and have Cam be the president. Little did they realize the club would actually take off and within the first couple days they'd have kids wanting to join and a faculty member- Mr. Fanshaw backing the group. Between the plans to save a homeless beaver and the wrath of a high school cheerleader who sees Cam as her biggest rival, Cam finds not having a real group is a lot of hard work. This 132 page book is excellent for the reluctant reader and any other middle school student who enjoys a fun story.

A humorous, realistic fiction novel, Slacker will make you smile.Cam has a lifestyle for which he has worked hard to perfect. No one really knows him except his two best friends and a gamer in Sweden--and they really know know Cam as a gamer. He barely passes and has a completely blank slate when it comes to extracurricular activities. He has a secret locker so that he can’t be found, and he frequents the restroom to feed his lifestyle. Lifestyle: Gamer. Everything revolves around training for a tournament. He has one nemesis in the games that keeps taking him out, but he’s determined to take him down--hence the training. His carefully planned lifestyle comes to a half when he almost burns the house down. His parents insist that he interact with real people.Out of desperation, Cam invents a club. This is perfect--he can be the president of a fictitious club, live his lifestyle, and make his parents happy. Unfortunately, a girl sees the website and joins; she’s one of the insistent people who is determined that meetings and events will take place. When she goes to the guidance counselor, Daphne sets in motion the biggest club the school has ever seen. Someone hacks the website and meetings and events are constant. They are famous around town for doing good deeds until someone wants to soil their reputation. Cam is not happy. He doesn’t care about any of this do-gooder stuff. He just wants his lifestyle back. Everyone thinks he’s great, making him the most popular guy in school. The people who want the club to fail are stalking him. He’s in a tight spot, but his gaming training may give him the courage and knowledge to get out of this situation and still make the tournament.Slacker is a quick book to read and is rather amusing. Korman touches on some real life issues that affect many people and businesses as large corporations and larger businesses arrive near small towns. Chapters are told from lots of different characters to get the entire story. It’s amusing to see everyone’s thoughts on Cam, notorious for being a slacker or simply being unknown. It’s a cute novel. If you’ve read Korman’s other novels, you’ll enjoy this as well. If you liked Ungifted, give this a shot as well.
