About this audiobook

All Systems Red is the first tense science fiction adventure novella in Martha Wells' series The Murderbot Diaries. For fans of Westworld and Ex Machina. All Systems Red by Martha Wells begins The Murderbot Diaries, a new science fiction action and adventure series that tackles questions of the ethics of sentient robotics. It appeals to fans of Westworld, Ex Machina, Ann Leckie's Imperial Raadch series, or Iain M. Banks' Culture novels. The main character is a deadly security droid that has bucked its restrictive programming and is balanced between contemplative self-discovery and an idle instinct to kill all humans. In a corporate-dominated spacefaring future, planetary missions must be approved and supplied by the Company. Exploratory teams are accompanied by Company-supplied security androids, for their own safety. But in a society where contracts are awarded to the lowest bidder, safety isn't a primary concern. On a distant planet, a team of scientists are conducting surface tests, shadowed by their Company-supplied 'droid - a self-aware SecUnit that has hacked its own governor module, and refers to itself (though never out loud) as "Murderbot." Scornful of humans, all it really wants is to be left alone long enough to figure out who it is. But when a neighboring mission goes dark, it's up to the scientists and their Murderbot to get to the truth.

Award winning…

If you like “Westworld” and “Ex Machina,” check out this 2018 Hugo Award winner for Best Novella. A security robot (with a great sense of humor) hacks its own programming to become self-aware and just wants to be left alone. And then everything goes wrong.

Great story, and a great reading. Engaging and often funny reflection on what it might be like to be self aware but not considered fully human.

I enjoyed the experience of watching Murderbot becoming something new. The characters are complex and keep you guessing which way the story will be going.

Excellent sci-fi novella! Why have I waited to read about Murderbot so long?! I loved its obsessive binge watching of serial adventure shows and its grudging, cautious affection for the humans it’s been hired to protect.

Enjoyable short story about a sentient security bot who, instead of doing what it's told, just wants to be left alone to watch soap operas and other human media. The bot is sassy but lovable, shy and aloof, yet cares for "my humans." It also exhibits symptoms of Asperger's Syndrome (think Max from Parenthood. Cute kid, smart, but also has a 'tude). I highly recommend as a short read/listen.

Listened to this on a whim, and enjoyed it so much I immediately continued to the others. I don't normally like first person books but this works well, turns out it's more comfortable to see the story from inside a bot's mind than from inside a human's mind. I like the narrator's voice too, it suits the character.

This is going on my top ten list for sure! A hilarious, tense, and well-plotted l space murder thriller with an exploration of robotic personhood that feels fresh and insightful. Kevin R. Free brings a wonderfully sardonic tone to the indifferent and lovable main character. This was everything I want in sci-fi: an original and thrilling plot, humor, gays in space, and robots having feelings. I am so glad this is a series, since I will absolutely be reading all of them!

The most fun and amazing book I've read in years. I love the character voice, the first person narrative works amazingly, and i think Martha Wells was born to write this series. It's so good that my liver almost doesn't hurt anymore with the fact that I bought it through audible and it costed me 1 credit per 4h novella, or in total 6 credits for what is actual 2 book listening time. It's so good I'm disappointed to death by the other stuff by the same author being bland, intensely average, and nothing like this.

I'd heard so much about the Murderbot series that my expectations were very high, and they were not disappointed by this first novella. Excellent premise, fast pace, just a great read. I'll be binging the rest of the series!

Yeah, ok, this was very aesthetically pleasing to the imagination. I would certainly listen to more from this author. The narrator had a good range of voice and character. The story was paced well to match the novel's duration. Cool stuff.

It was a little hard to understand with the many difficult words but still a nice rather short story
