About this audiobook
From Inc.com's most popular columnist, a counterintuitive—but highly practical—guide to finding and maintaining the motivation to achieve great things.
It's comforting to imagine that superstars in their fields were just born better equipped than the rest of us. When a co-worker loses 20 pounds, or a friend runs a marathon while completing a huge project at work, we assume they have more grit, more willpower, more innate talent, and above all, more motivation to see their goals through.
But that's not at actually true, as popular Inc.com columnist Jeff Haden proves. "Motivation" as we know it is a myth. Motivation isn't the special sauce that we require at the beginning of any major change. In fact, motivation is a result of process, not a cause. Understanding this will change the way you approach any obstacle or big goal.
Haden shows us how to reframe our thinking about the relationship of motivation to success. He meets us at our level—at the beginning of any big goal we have for our lives, a little anxious and unsure about our way forward, a little burned by self help books and strategies that have failed us in the past—and offers practical advice that anyone can use to stop stalling and start working on those dreams.
Haden takes the mystery out of accomplishment, proving that success isn't about spiritual awakening or a lightning bolt of inspiration—as Tony Robbins and adherents of The Secret believe—but instead, about clear and repeatable processes. Using his own advice, Haden has consistently drawn 2 million readers a month to his posts, completed a 107-mile long mountain bike race, and lost 10 pounds in a month.
Success isn't for the uniquely-qualified; it's possible for any person who understands the true nature of motivation. Jeff Haden can help you transcend average and make lasting positive change in your life.
Editor's Note
Motivation is a process…
Motivation is an enigma to us — something that comes and goes, a force of success that strikes certain people more often than others. But Inc. columnist Jeff Haden shows how our popcular conception of motivation is a myth. Here are the secrets on how to harness motivation.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This is easily one of the most actionable, practical, and insightful books I have ever read on this topic. HIGHLY recommended.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Excelente livro. A pratica do que foi ensinado aqui realmente trás uma nova vida
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I really enjoyed it apart from the small part about losing weight in the beginning. Although it feels that what is the title "the motivation myth" was only discussed in the very beginning. The rest is not quite related to the myth itself.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I've read a lot of personal development books, but this one added new angles and even some corrections to misconceptins about how to *actually* achieve success.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Will listen to it again it collects concepts on the topic with helpful insights that would not be possible without the yuxtaposición the book provides.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Some good ideas to use but too many irrelevant personal stories
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5very well written. Nothing really new but packed with practical tips. Good reading of the audiobook, will read again.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5A wise, inspiring, no-nonsense that describes a method for achieving goals that makes perfect sense.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5The analogies can be better, the last chapters are far away from the main subject
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/510/10 a definite life changer.
This is not your average self help book that tells you how to get motivated to achieve your goals, but rather it tells you to "forget the goal" entirely and only focus on the process and the routine that help you achieve it. Not exactly what believers in visualization or the law of attraction would really want to hear, however I found that this book's advice is a lot more useful. - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5parts of the book are great, all in all good book but not a great one
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Really good content and excellent narrator! He had great time and inflection.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5alot of good information that contradicted some of my previous beliefs. I gave 4 stars instead of 5 because the end of the book is scrambled and there are many points that seem forced into the book
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I couldn’t put this audiobook down. Before listening, I thought I needed a coach or something. Save the $1000/month hiring a coach and just listen to this audiobook. The advice is so practical and filled with wisdom. He hits on why so many of us procrastinate and struggle with lack of motivation while giving practical and actionable advice on how to move our asses.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5this was the best self improvement book I have ever read. it takes a anti motivational approach that is very counter-intuitiveIt actually gives you a plan of action. Which most books do not.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5The first few chapters are filled with fresh idea and controversial delivery. The last few chapters seem scattered and anticlimatic.
